let this be your sign to just go watch the supergirl movie, please dont let a bunch of misogynistic bad reviews get the best of you
one of the best movies i’ve seen in a while!!!
It's nuts how common it is to not allow children to be angry, even (especially) in households where adults are angry all the time. As a child I knew my own anger was unacceptable--not just expressing it outwardly but feeling it at all. So now as an adult my immediate reaction to my own anger is often to feel guilt instead of like. Noticing when someone is being rude or unfair or my boundaries are being violated or whatever. fucked up.
Conservative beauty standards are back with a vengeance which means it's especially important to go out this summer with bellies out and bodies unshaved. Also be unapologetically disabled with mobility aids and wearable medical devices and stim toys and ear defenders and all that stuff. You need it. People need to see it. Everyone needs to be reminded that life is unquestioningly more enjoyable when you're not living inside an arbitrary set of rules created by people who are offended by all the wrong things.
Today's Fuck It Friday feature, and reminder that the Pride and Wrath Sale only had a few more days to go: Bite Me! Many more pictures over on the gallery page, and you can still sink your teeth in over here.

The problem with AI
For me the problem with AI is that the people running the AI companies, who hope to make LOTS of money off it, are encouraging us to stop using and improving our natural born skills, the ones that came free with the human body that was assigned to us at conception, and replace those brain functions with an app we have to pay for. I mean, sure, the crappy models are available for free right now, but for how long, once we're all hooked on this thing and can no longer compose a love letter or plan a holiday by ourselves?
You are being asked to hand over a part of your most intimate daily functioning - your cognition - to a corporation whose only goal is to make a profit. They want to do your thinking for you. What you have between your ears is more powerful than the word's most powerful supercomputer, more creative and original than the most expensive LLM, and you're being asked to trash that - the OS you got FOR FREE!! from your parents, the world heritage site of your humanity - and substitute some substandard version, and then pay for the privilege.
People who use AI are willingly deskilling and stupefying themselves so that Sam Altman can buy another yacht. Of course, they don't realise that's what they're doing. How could they? They have off-loaded their thinking to a machine. Their cognition is declining. And these are the people assuring us AI is so great, so efficient and so convenient.

the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be a part of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.

anon in my inbox said fanfic writers who wrote about dark and taboo topics were not “real writers” because of what they wrote about.
reblog if you believe anon is wrong and writers are writers, no matter what they write about. no matter how they portray these taboo topics.
reblog if you believe art can be about topics that are controversial, taboo or outright disturbing, and artists who create controversial, taboo or outright disturbing art are as valid as artists who create art of conservative values.
reblog to laugh at anon ♡
Periodic rent-lowering-gunshots:
Fiction is not reality.
You can enjoy things in fiction that would be awful in the real world. Like playing a murderhobo in a game! In the real world, being or supporting a murderer-thief would be pretty damn awful, while in the game it's just good fun. Same with anything else you choose to do with the pixels on the screen, like kinks that don't affect anyone real, so they're okay in fiction, but would be pretty damn bad in real life.
No one else is responsible for your online experience. They are required not to harass you, but they are not and never will be obligated to not post about ships, kinks, or tropes you dislike just to avoid you seeing them. It's up to you to blacklist words or phrases, block tags, or even block users as needed to avoid seeing content that upsets you.
No one can force you to read anything against your consent. Any content you don't like seeing can be instantly avoided by closing out of the offending post/fic.
You are not owed an online experience free of discomfort.
Nothing that happens in your imagination can ever make you a bad person. Words you write or read about fictional characters will never make you a bad person.
The claim that media consumption influences real-life behavior is intellectually dishonest and serves only to excuse the behavior of real offenders.
Fiction is a safe way to explore horrifying or confusing concepts. Therapists agree that fiction, even (or especially) about taboo topics is a good coping mechanism, especially, but not exclusively, for trauma survivors. Fiction is to adults what play therapy is to children. This doesn't stop being true if the work in question is of a sexual nature.
Sex isn't an inherently worse or better motivation than anything else. A work written to create feelings of arousal isn't dirty, shameful, or in any way less pure than works written to entertain, provoke moral questions, or for other reasons. And worth noting is that multiple purposes can exist in the same story, especially fanfiction.
You aren't entitled to an explanation for why someone reads, writes, or otherwise enjoys certain works, kinks, tropes, ships, etc.
Did you work during any of the Covid lockdowns?
yes outside the home
yes but from home
yes to both of the above
no but I wasn't/couldn't/didn't work anyway
no Covid stopped my job at some point

I absolutely blame Facebook for this shift. Words cannot describe how freaking WEIRD it was in the mid-00s when there was suddenly this popular website where you were required to use your real, brickspace name and encouraged to post photos of yourself. Every single bit of Standard Internet Safety prior to then said that you should never ever ever do either of those.
can we really understand our ancient ancestors if we cant even see the sky at night
