Hey. Why isn’t the moon landing a national holiday in the US. Isn’t that fucked up? Does anyone else think that’s absurd?

It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!

Tolkien really said: a group of people are born with bodies that are weaker, slower, less dexterous, more breakable. They can't do many things that others take for granted. Their bodies are vulnerable and fall to wounds and illnesses that the other group is baffled by. They are physically less able and there are barriers that they will never be able to overcome. They have no magic powers to make up for this difference; they just live with it. Their lives are shorter and they will die earlier.

Still they are heroes, lovers, craftsmen, villains, musicians, warriors, poets, adventurers. Still their existences matter. They are essential parts of the universe. Their lives are meaningful and worthy of honour, however brief they may be.

I never saw it that way

Just finished rewatching episode 18, Vindicta & Vale, and it seems that the fate of Alogar Fang is kind of left blowing in the wind for now. The Seekers are headed back to the city, and all they know about Thaisha's son is that he left the Place of Wings alive. The plot takes them back to the city, so this is currently the last time we hear anything about him.

But the Seekers spent a lot of time talking with the dead Pascard Velmonte, a Drowned Man. Alogar arrested him, and Pascard told Alogar even more than he told the Seekers. Things about the Tachonises, things about the Drowned Men. Maybe even things about Thjazi Fang, his uncle.

What are the odds, do you think, on Alogar becoming a Drowned Man to keep his soul out of Tachonis hands, knowing what he knows now?

Thaisha might need to sit down for that one.

#yeah ive been reading transformative/restorative justice stuff lately and some ppl Do Not Understand the difference#asking ppl to forgive their abusers is not restorative justice and anyone who thinks it is needs to shut up forever thanks

There's a Norwegian documentary, Norges Farligste, which goes through (nowhere near perfect, not above criticism) attempts at restorative/reformative justice in the country's prison system.

It provides some interesting insights into what attempts at restorative justice can even look like when, for example, you've got a guy who tried to murder his dad with a hammer to the back of the head, but has now been in years of therapy during his sentence and is going to meet his dad for an attempt at reconciliation. Because the victim asked to do so. Because stuff like this is complicated in real life.

As someone that has grown up surrounded by beaches and done surf life saving, I know how the sea works. Lots of people dont. Every summer multiple tourists die here because they don’t respect the sea, if you’re going to the coast, here’s a thing I saw on Facebook.

Listen to lifeguards, swim and surf between the correct flags, respect the sea
