The minorest of holidays is approaching here in the garden: FIRST TOMATO DAY! The corner plant in bed 2 has a small cluster of cherry toms about to be ripe. The other cherries are coming along, and some of the big tomatoes are coming along.
In further garden news:
Pole beans have found the poles.
Cucumbers are close to first pluck/pickle.
I suspect the orange boi from the house across the street has been napping in the catnip. There's some orange fluff and a him sized dent in the plant.

Solarpunk, not as in glass and solar panels, but as in less consumption (energy included), more ceramics, textiles, community, and crafts. Appropriate technology over constant "innovation and progress". As in convivial tools and living. Diversity not just in our biome, but in our architecture and tools as well.
Don't let the AI slop images fool ya, solarpunk is more than an aesthetic. That's what it's been from the start: imagining the better world we can make and then doing it.
I'll risk a paraphrase of St Thomas of Assissi (who may actually be the Parton Saint of Solarpunk):
Always do solarpunk; use words if necessary.

Tonight's shout into the void: tomatoes staked and/or caged; cucumber trellis in place, beets thinned, groceries shopped, dishes mostly done, laundry ongoing. Spent most of night off working. Planning on attempting a new personal best at sloth on Sunday.

"everyone should get more aromantic" can appeal to tumblr's sensibilities but I genuinely think everyone should also get more asexual. I don't mean everyone stop having sex, what I mean is
Sex is not essential. You can live without it. Full stop.
Not having sex isn't shameful or a sign of failure. It also doesn't make anyone boring.
You are not entitled to having sex with anybody and nobody is entitled to having sex with you.
Sex is not what makes someone an adult.
Nobody's worth is defined by how much sex they have or don't have.
Sex is not equally important to everyone.
You can have fulfilling and happy relationships without sex.
You should only have sex on your own terms, not because you feel like you owe it to someone, or because you feel like you'd be incomplete without it.
Know your boundaries around sex and be firm about them. Know how to respect other people's boundaries.
The previous point also applies when it comes to discussing sex. If someone doesn't wanna talk about it or hear about it you have to back down.
Anything can be sexual but not everything has to be sexual.
Firmly convinced the world would be a better place if we started treating sex the way we'd treat any other mundane preference in life, like what kind of chips a person likes to eat with their lunch.

i think everyone who's ever been fucked over by the slow, bureaucratic, cruel, and expensive usa healthcare system should be allowed to beat one (1) hospital administrator with a pool noodle in public while the administrator tries to navigate an automated phone tree in order to make it stop
Garden update:
nearly all the planned space is filled. Beans, cucumbers, tomatoes of several sizes, beets, chard, chives, cilantro, rosemary, and part of a bed dedicated to salad greens. Have a small raised bed, but haven't figured out what I want for it. Perhaps something easy to preserve.

Magnificent: Seven Bindings from Our Collection of Greek Manuscripts
Join us for a talk by Julia Miller about her experience describing and documenting the bindings on 100 Greek manuscripts held in the U-M Library's Special Collections Research Center. Julia will show us what âmagnificentâ can mean with regard to the binding and repair of some of our oldest books; her presentation will be accompanied by a display of seven exemplars from our collection of Greek manuscripts. The event takes place on Tuesday 9 June at 5:30 pm in the Special Collections Research Center on the sixth floor of the Hatcher Library. Refreshments will be provided.
