Two more weeks of gender!
Half an hour left here. Begone, gender!
I wanna hear these Opinions on steampunk color palettes, if youâre willing.
tbh âthe Victorians did not go to the trouble of inventing aniline dyes so that we could wear neutralsâ mostly covers it?
they went to a lot of effort to bring affordable screaming bright fuchsias and acid greens into the world, and we should honor their tacky, tacky choices.
letâs not forget the tacky patterns, too
oh yeah
oh fuck yeah
(TELL ME that last one isnât a steampunk look. just try and tell me)
yes! thank you, these are EXACTLY what i meant. tomorrow Iâll take a picture of the bafflingly tacky goldenrod-and-maroon gown Iâve got at the shop
also
this is wise, and correct.
This is 100% true.
Oh no, no those are tasteful compared to what wild color shenanigans the 19th century got up to. Most of them being mid-century are only ~2 colors excepting the plaid. By the 1890s, five colors per dress was the fashion. TheyâŚdidnât all coordinate the way we would. Â
PUMPKIN WORTH
I have seen mid-century dresses in electric blue. Barbie pink
Black with photo-realistic brocade oranges. Royal purple with GIANT POLKA DOTS.
Hey hey did you know lime green and lavender was a favorite color combo in 1895?
This one is not so much tacky asâŚvibrant
Okay at ~1903 itâs not really Victorian but I love the melting ice cream explosion look of it
This dress has faded but it would have originally been a quite eye-catching shade of violet.
Not that past eras were any less fond of colors even if they werenât artificial dyes.  Iâve seen canary yellow Regency dresses and an 18th century manâs coat in turquoise velvet printed with leopard spots.  Steampunk isnât really Victorian so much as it is âdrapery store vomited on a sexy colorblind school marmâ
Et le piece de resistanceâŚ
Yes, those orange blocks are outlined in green chenille fringe.
brb, saving that green one to my âMalfoy estate saleâ pinterest board
Steampunk isnât really Victorian so much as it is âdrapery store vomited on a sexy colorblind school marmâ
Pair a brightass fushia dress with a top hat and gears you cowards
MORE PUMPKIN ORANGE AND FRINGE YOU COWARDS
If youâre not using blood red and forty pounds of lace and trim what the fuck are you even playing at
The Pragmatic Costumer calls this âThe Hot Mess Dress.â It dates from around 1878. They say: âThis dress has more trims than my entire collection of detash combined (detash or destash means all the little bits, pieces, and leftovers from crafting something)! On the outside alone I spot: black lace, bi-colored sandy-brown/cornflower-blue ruffles, tawny velvet, cream silk, beaded netting, cream lace, ribbon bows, ribbon rosettes, cornflower-blue buttons, and that fluffy lace collar. For even more trim-tastic fun and draping pandemonium, hereâs a shot of the back:â
The Pragmatic Costumer: âTrims were all the rage in the mid 1870s and 1880s, and this dress is raging harder, faster, and more extravagantly than most.â
And hereâs a Worth tea gown from 1895. This really needs to be worn by a mad scientist. Especially one interested in fish.
@gwengrimm Some of these are just amazing, and others sink worse than the sink we just unclogged.
I would wear that bright orange pumpkin monstrosity, just saying đ¤Ł
Is this the point where I tell you that I found a book with knitted and crocheted lace patterns from the Victorian era?
that orange and green chenille one os proof that someone had lead poisoning and somehow launched forward to the early 1970s, snapped back like a rubber band, and went I HAVE SEEN THE FUTURE, AND IT IS OLIVE AND TANGERINE
TBH I would wear a solid half of these, and that 1895 Worth tea gown in green is my dream Worth dress. That blood red and gold one I posted is also a dream dress, tbh.
That orange and green chenille one is not one of those that I would wear.Â
But yeah, the Victorians invented Aniline dyes and went absolutely wild with them, and we owe it to our great great grandparents to not dress in neutrals all day.
I think ppl need to stop dismissing films like âcrazy rich asiansâ and âto all the boys I loved beforeâ as âcool for representation but just rom com fluff.â
Because like damn guys, sometimes I just donât wanna deal with super deep narratives about identity and misogyny. Sometimes I just canât handle the secondary trauma of movies like the joy luck club and maos last dancer. Sometimes I just need to escape into a happy place of light humor and hot people. And sometimes I want that happy place to show ppl who look like me.
Donât knock escapism representation yâall.
Ppl are asking if itâs ok for white ppl to reblog
Answer: yes.
Would rather yâall reblog than speak over .
i legitimately and in all seriousness think harold and kumar go to white castle is a revolutionary film expressly because its a mediocre stoner film that happens to star two asian dudes
we deserve to have mediocre stoner films as much as the next group
Tbh Harold and Kumar is about two Asian broâs fighting simultaneously against white toxic masculinity stereotypes and also a commentary on the problematic nature of model minority culture in America under the guise of just likeâŚreally loving weed, man.
Also launched the careers of two men who wouldnât have gotten callbacks otherwise (not to mention Kalâs political activism !) So likeâŚyeah.
Comedy âGOOD COMEDYâis subversive !
Comedy and lighthearted romance and media that give us joy and hope are things we canât forget even in the darkest times. We need to laugh and smile and love because thatâs what weâre fighting for.
As a POC I always get so tired of the only âqualityâ stories being the ones that involve pain and suffering and some sort of struggle. White people get both the light and dark in their stories so why shouldnât everyone else?
All people of color deserve the frivolous fluffy bullshit that white people get. No trope or cliche is over until people of color get their chance at them too.
can you imagine how the whole energybending scene must have looked to Sokka and Suki
Sokka: âohmygod, I think aangâs losing!â
Suki: âyou dont know that, maybe red is aangâs colorâ
Sokka: âyou think the motherfucker who was planning to genocide the entire world with fire has a *blue aura*??â
Toph: âwhat the FUCK are you guys TALKING aboutâ

Do you think things will settle down after the pandemic ? I really donât feel like it will.
Not for some time. Weâre in a time of change and upheaval, and it wonât end with COVID-19. Itâs one part of many things that we have to persevere through, as weâve been doing for some time already now.
But itâs a time of change that, when it at last is done, will have a better world at the other side of it. And we owe it ourselves and those who come after us to do our best through all of this, because thatâs the only way that that better world comes to be.
Iâve done the readings a thousand times now, and received that answer every time.
To quote Gandalf, who is of course just Odin plus one eye and minus two ravens,
Well of course nothing will change if folks take this sort of defeatist attitude and just roll over and wait for death.Â
Pulling together now minimizes how many people will die of this pandemic, and you owe it to every vulnerable person now to do your best, and you owe it to every person who lives after you to fight for a better world and not just give the fuck up.Â
This is the hand we were dealt. We can do our best with it, or we can give the fuck up.
And giving the fuck up is the cowardâs way out.Â
Giving up is also how the bastards who want us down trodden and defeated win. Those fuckers benefit from our despair, and while despair is a very real and valid thing you need to let yourself feel, you also need to let it go. You need to let it transform into rage if you have to, because at this point, anything is better than the inertia of despair.
Iâm under no illusions that my survival is unlikely if things keep going the way they are with the world. But god fuck and damn me, I came kicking and screaming into this world, and thatâs how Iâm leaving it if need be. In the meantime Iâm going to keep going to therapy when I can and taking care of myself and dealing with my clinical depression, because in a world where the people in power want you mentally broken and subservient, self care and helping to care for those around you is an act of not only survival but rebellion. So keep fucking going, and light the fuckers up đ
unimaginative and foolish people: why would wheelchairs exist in fantasy worlds! it doesnât make any sense!

Sometimes mobility aids in fantasy fiction can be simple, utilitarian and grounded in reality. Othertimes they can be a throne sat stop four reanimated goat legs powered by arkane magic.
Both is good.

âDangerousâ: Right-Wing Defends Teenage Trump Fan Who Killed 2 Protesters | All In | MSNBC
Fmr. FBI agent Michael German on Trumpâs rhetoric: âIt energizes these fascist groups and encourages them to act in a way that risks life and limb, unfortunately. And itâs a problem that I think is going to continue.â Aired on 8/28/2020.
Never forget that acts like this are a direct result of Trumpâs Amerikkka
The violence happening right now is because of the climate of violent racism and hatred that Donald Trump has deliberately encouraged and supported throughout the four years of bigotry, incompetence and greed heâs had in office.
Donald Trump claiming that him getting re-elected will somehow fix the problems that he himself has either created or made a thousand times worse is like an arsonist claiming that letting him out of jail is the way to prevent more fires

Every time I see a post about updog Iâm torn between not wanting to fall for it and wanting to help the poster complete their joke.
okay but whatâs updog ?
Updog is a long sausage in a bun often served with ketchup, mustard, onion e, and/or relish.
No, thatâs a hotdog. An updog is when a new version or patch of an application is released
Youâre thinking of update. Updog is when you end a sentence with a rising intonation.
No, thatâs uptalk. Youâre thinking of the fourth-largest city in Sweden.
surely thatâs Uppsala, whereas Updog is the giant spider in Harry Potter.
Thatâs Aragog. Updog is a symbol conventionally used for an arbitrarily small number in analysis proofs
Youâre thinking of epsilon. Updog is an upward-moving air current.
no thatâs an updraft
updog isnât a noun at all, itâs a verb; it basically means to chew someone out, or harshly lecture them
No, thatâs upbraid. An updog is a small dog that likes cuddling on peopleâs laps.
No thatâs a puppydog. An updog is when the Mets win.
No thatâs an upset. An updog is the modern version of a henway.
Whatâs a henway?
Oh, about 5 pounds.
GOTTEM
this post pushed me down the stairs and stole my firstborn child
I wasnât asked to a single dance in high school and didnât have a serious romantic relationship until I was 22. And like, yeah that shit hurt when I was younger. I had a lot of fears that I was unlovable and that I didnât deserve to be happy. And every time I would try to talk to anyone about it, the conversation became, âyouâll find someoneâ, when it should have been, âyou donât need a relationship or a date, youâre lovable & complete & beautiful on your ownâ.
So yeah, please normalize young people not dating, and please stop shaming them for it. Thereâs more to life than romance, despite what the media wants us to think.
THIS
Some of y'all need to read this shit and understand it fully
