Not that past eras were any less fond of colors even if they weren’t artificial dyes.  I’ve seen canary yellow Regency dresses and an 18th century man’s coat in turquoise velvet printed with leopard spots.  Steampunk isn’t really Victorian so much as it is ‘drapery store vomited on a sexy colorblind school marm’

The Pragmatic Costumer calls this “The Hot Mess Dress.” It dates from around 1878. That orange and green chenille one is not one of those that I would wear. 

Because like damn guys, sometimes I just don’t wanna deal with super deep narratives about identity and misogyny. Not for some time. We’re in a time of change and upheaval, and it won’t end with COVID-19. It’s one part of many things that we have to persevere through, as we’ve been doing for some time already now.

But it’s a time of change that, when it at last is done, will have a better world at the other side of it. And we owe it ourselves and those who come after us to do our best through all of this, because that’s the only way that that better world comes to be.

Well of course nothing will change if folks take this sort of defeatist attitude and just roll over and wait for death. 

Pulling together now minimizes how many people will die of this pandemic, and you owe it to every vulnerable person now to do your best, and you owe it to every person who lives after you to fight for a better world and not just give the fuck up. 

This is the hand we were dealt. We can do our best with it, or we can give the fuck up.
