It's worth noting that since then I've kind of gone off on this project. It has its own monitoring system. The sequence of colors and glyphs is no longer random but follows a per-day sequence of nominally one-avatar-per-minute, but with a catch-up mechanism. I had a false-positive mismatch swallow the rotation for two hours and the catch-up mechanism recovered the day (I verified this after the fact by checking a folder full of captured avatars and making sure nothing was missing from the sequence). I wrote a postmortem about it.
