Someday I'll visit a place with no ancient evils, horrors, devouring plagues, or insanity. Maybe a beach.
I can recommend a few, if you'd like.

lyds doodle!! it's not much but it's honest work đź’Ş
no boobplate plsđź’€
jumping off this post a bit but da2 truly did do such a decent job at playing around in the space between legend and man... the prologue and the narrative framing with the tale of the champion are both great examples of this but most relevant to me is the companions. down to their introductions and almost comic book way some of the scene blocking is done... there's varric and hawke for the obvious reasons but one of the characters that executes this best is isabela. she enters da2 already as this larger than life figure, but one that has been forcefully grounded.
she created this narrative around herself and who she is in order to secure her freedom for good and the stripping of it with the loss of her ship and crew is a huge blow to her identity; a pirate without a ship is just a person. ignoring her later game appearances i like looking at her act 3 personal quest through this lense (as one among many) as a a conflict between her returning to being this story she's made (getting a ship again and also reaffirming her to herself as a bad person for what it takes to get it) and just... being a person (staying grounded, so to speak.)
kind of always going to love characters like isabela bc existing at the line where stories blur w reality is esp fun when the person kind of IS as fantastical as the legend but that doesn't mean they don't need to be seen as a person, and sometimes as much as they'd love to be perpetually intimidating and aloof and cool, they can't help but to be clumsy. and also my favorite thing is when muses take the reins.
idk man she survives pygmalion/my fair lady. like sailing off into the sunset final girl style, bc pygmalion is a horror story, and i don't think it's a reach to say that the version of pygmalion isabela survives is racialized, too. but sometimes you survive the big bad thing that happened to you and you end up older than you thought you'd be w much less of a sense of self bc you were busy trying to survive while everyone else got to form that sense of self, and now you have to cling to some stable identity or you know (from hard earned experience) that you're going to be eaten alive. and sometimes a placeholder identity becomes permanent enough to calcify, and meanwhile, you sort of hate the pre-bad thing version of yourself for being so naive and innocent (and you're jealous of that version of yourself, too), and you're doing your best not to waste time imagining who you'd be if that version of yourself didn't become the you that you are now.
like sorry not to be woo-woo on tumblr dot com but we are made up of the stories we tell abt ourselves, and if we're not careful, we'll be made up of the stories other ppl tell abt us, too — and some ppl do not deserve to have that kind of impact on your sense of self. so a character like isabela creating a story abt herself that's so big and loud and colorful and indomitable makes me feel like ripping out my eyebrows.

nightly spiral
this is my favorite fuckin comic ever I have never seen something capture the experience so well
relating to my last reblog about nevarra, i've been thinking a lot about what life must be like for nevarran peasants!
if you're a peasant in nevarra, i imagine like in tevinter and like in all slave societies, you have very little opportunity to rise beyond your status—because you're not getting paid. any labor that must urgently be completed will not result in work for you: the nobles will raise skeletons to do it for them!
(of course, this requires patronizing the mortalitasi right? and paying the mortalitasi in some way—either with coin, food or favors? so i imagine some peasants still get jobs. nobles who dislike the mortalitasi, nobles who've offended the mortalitasi, nobles who are devout orelsian/ferelden andrastians—all of those nobles probably still need labor done and must therefore still hire peasants! but i imagine it's a much more precarious existence—gig labor instead of guild labor)
all this to say—as a peasant in nevarra, there must be a thriving market of peasants trying to sell their healthy bodies to the mortalitasi, right? as one of the only ways to get yourself stable access to money and food? because you are much more guaranteed to get used for labor in death, than in life?
thinking of peasant families that maybe bank their fortunes on a healthy son/daughter—try to funnel all your food and nutrition to them, so they have healthy bones/muscle. then, you try and sell them to the mortalitasi. you ask the mortalitasi to kill them now—they'll be ideal laborers. pay us, the family, a stipend or lease fee, and you'll be guaranteed a much better corpse than the corpses of those who've died from illness/old age. for the mortalitasi, any fee paid would probably be minimal compared to the eternal work you can get from a good body, so i imagine they cultivate this necropolitical market. get the peasants to vie and compete to sell their bodies to the mortalitasi.
(it happens all the time when there's a surplus of women in historical feudal societies, where the economy's starting to really plummet. sell women to brothels, use the money to feed the family back home, spin the money earnt as part of filial piety)
and of course, to justify such horrible deeds, i imagine there must then be a cult of death. all sorts of books and slogans and songs encouraging peasants to see death and service in death as honorable, good and aspirational.
not certain how that might mix with andrastianism, but i think there's something about sins being forgiven in death—through eternal toil? every soul that willingly goes purifies the black city further, or something? idk!
Quietly yearning with your baps out.

Isabela!Â
I polled my followers to see their favorite Bioware companions, and who they would like me to do next.  I’ve already done the winner, Morrigan, and here is 2nd place (1st in my heart) Isabela! It’s transparent too, because I like the shape of her hair.
Thank you all for sticking with me :)Â

Today's my birthday and I'd like to share a new comic with you, it's called Marginalia. It's a love letter to all the weirdness of medieval manuscripts, and you can read it by unfolding a single sheet of paper!
Risograph print editions are also available in my shop.
I thought to myself, "Wouldn't it be a pity if there was a blackout?" Blackout? So I said to Jenny, "Either the party's over or we relocate it." Oh my God!
