This song is a bop however I cannot relate, I have never regretted ordering the big breakfast.
MYTH: Americans set off fireworks on the 4th of July, in honor of our Independence Day
FACT: Americans set off fireworks from approximately June 20thâJuly 20th, for no reason other than this is the time of year that you can literally buy them at any grocery store
Same for bonfire night. Fireworks start from Halloween and continue until like 10th November
anyone elseâs tumblr ads trying desperately to get you to shit yourself using bananas or is that just mine
IâM THE ONLY ONE GETTING THESE???????
Yeah Iâm getting these. Why does boiling bananas make you shit yourself?
having a 3yo brother means i get exposed to kidsâ shows way more often than i thought i would at this point in my life, but man, binge watching thomas the tank engine as an adult is a wild fucking experience
all these trains (and thereâs like 20 counting locomotives alone, donât even get me started on the anthropomorphic train cabins) are MAD competitive the whole time and will constantly fuck up their own whole day by tring to prove theyâre the biggest baddest train. and like, i understand that you gotta get you plot from somewhere and i imagine plotlines like this happen in cars etc. as well, but the other day i was watching and i noticed that all these goddamn locomotives have DRIVERS in them. that apparently have no control over their trainâs actions at all whatsoever. so these trains wake up, pick up their drivers, go to work, get taunted by another train whoâs like âha ha i see u there with your 4 cabins but did you know i can pull SIX cabins and still fucking book it at 80mphâ and the 4 cabin train will be like âfuck it i gotta prove myself now, hook me up with 4 more cabinsâ and will inevitably derail themselves or some shit while the engine driver just shuts up and kicks back the whole time
i explained this to my brother and was like, is that fucked up or what, but he just pointed at the green train and went âthatâs percyâ so i guess thatâs his take on the situation
OKAY IâM GETTING IN ON THIS BECAUSE IâM MAD AND FULL OF COLA
I worked on that show. For three hideous months of my life, I did this.
And there was this whole unwritten rule structure about the drivers and what they did and when they did it and how/when they needed to act
And there was this weird fucking balance between what the trains did and what the humans did - the drivers would only act when the train canât do a thing by itself. Hooking up to another car? Driver does it. Need to shift from one track to another? Driver gets out and does it. Loading up one of the cars? Drivers.
See something funny here? BECAUSE I DID. What driver would hear their sentient train say âfuck it i gotta prove myself now, hook me up with 4 more cabinsâ and NOT respond with âPercy just shut up and drive we have people to transport or the Health and Safety committee is going to breathe fire up both our assesâ???Â
Naw, they hear their giant fucking trains with giant fucking faces whining about how they are getting old and outdated and how they need to prove themselves by doubling their reasonable capacity and they go âwelp, okayâ and they get out and they hook up those cabins.
Otherwise, the trains had total autonomy to do whatever petty competitive shit the plot of the day demanded that they do. Go way too fast and end up breaking because they wanted to race a new and not outdated engine thatâs actually built for speed? They do that. Go 100% the wrong direction because they wanted to show their friends a thing they got loaded up with and end up ruining it? No probbo, Bobbo. Disobey directions given by Sir Topham Hatt HIMSELF because theyâre too proud? You do the thing buddy. Strain way too fucking hard to carry 8 fucking cabins when they were only built for 4? YOU GO FOR IT YOU MORON TRAIN.Â
SO WITH ALL THAT HEREâS MY THEORY that I had to develop because it was either that or never stop drinking ever again
Those drivers? They never speak to each other, never acknowledge the existence of any humans. They get in the train, go with the train, fix the train, load or unload the train. That is all they do.Â
Theyâre not human.Â
They are symbiotic extensions of the trains. They are a combination of the birds that eat parasites off hippos and fucking Boston Dynamics style robots where literally all they do is whatever shit their designated Train Of The Day deems worthy of their time.Â
With no task to fulfil, they are thoughtless beings. WATCH THEM. They look around at nothing. They blink. Sometimes they lean on the edge of the window. 99.5% of the time, they do nothing, they see nothing, they interact with nothing. They are shaped in such a way as to avoid unsettling the real humans of the world, but are below humans in almost every way - Sir Topham Hatt never speaks to them directly in the way he speaks to the engines.Â
If the train derails and itâs possible that a human driver would be severely injured? Itâs fine, because theyâre not actually human. They crumple into a heap of non-euclidian geometry and then rebuild themselves like an inflatable snowman. Their recovery is fuelled by the years of poor decisions theyâve helped enable - all this time theyâve been feeding off the intellect of these trains.Â
Why do the trains never learn from their mistakes? Why, after more than 30 years, are they still getting stuck, taking on more weight than they should know they can handle, still derailing themselves?Â
Because these symbiotic train extensions need their slice of the pie. They must feed. And whatâs more cost effective than sandwiches? Thought. 30 years of quiet leeching, giving the trains enough processing power to do their jobs, but not so much that the trains donât need them anymore.Â
The trains are in a constant state of developmental hiatus because of the drivers themselves.Â
NOW YOU MAY BE THINKING, this seems weird and unusual. Why would Sir Topham Hatt allow for this? Wouldnât it be more cost effective for the trains to be able to learn from their mistakes and become better workers?Â
And to that I ask you⌠from this entire operation, hauling coal, hauling people, hauling animals, being  âreally usefulâ⌠what do the trains get out of this? They are kept alive and maintained, but neither are they allowed their own independent thought, or their own free time or interests. Everything they do is done under orders of Sir Topham Hatt.
And without the brainpower to devote to critical thought, they are unable to see how their petty struggles to be better than each other only reinforces the system where they are coerced into being âreally usefulâ, above all else.Â
WAKE UP SHEEPLE
did not expect to wake up today to thomas the tank engine discourse and unsettlingly well-thought-out conspiracy theories..but at the same time, in this day and age, i really cant say im surprised
Thereâs the episode where Thomas decides he doesnât need a driver and goes out on his own and like immediately crashes into the stationmasters house at breakfast and theyâre like, âThomas we didnât invite you to breakfast you shit!â like the whole front wall of their gaff isnât caved in by a fucking train.
So the drivers must do something, but I canât fathom what.

Sheâs right and we should say it.
I think itâs also bizarre that we compare disadvantaged white students to students of other ethnic backgrounds who arenât split up by socio-economic factors, and then act like we are surprised that the disadvantaged white students do worse than most (but not all) other groups.
If we split up other racial groups by socio-economic status, Iâm sure weâd find a similar pattern. Itâs well known disadvantaged kids do poorly, and suffer most due to underfunding of schools.
Unmute !
This is the unrestrained summer fun that the liberals want.
my last game is actually overwatch haha⌠wbu?
Anything that decreases housing prices across the board will also necessarily decrease the net worth of âmiddle-classâ homeowners, much of whose wealth consists of home equity. Itâs that simple. This is the basic calculus - really, third-grade arithmetic - that gets liberal-run municipalities all across America tied up in useless Rube Goldberg bullshit like âaffordable housingâ quotas for new development. Theyâll try anything to address the housing crisis except anything that would actually fix it, because their key political constituency (respectable, middle-class property owners) is the group that benefits most from the skyrocketing cost of housing and stands to lose the most if that trend is reversed.
The mid-century socioeconomic engineering project to create a broad-based property-owning middle class ultimately generated a policy inertia that has lasted for decades even after all the other aspects of that project were hollowed out. Even for people who saw the writing on the wall, basically the only option has been to wait for economic and demographic trends to progress to the point where America (and particularly urban America) becomes a nation of renters rather than a nation of homeowners, and the former constituency can finally outnumber and overpower the latter one to break their entrenched privileges. In fact, things need to progress well past the point of parity, since homeowners not only vote at relatively high rates but are both willing and able to pursue political activism outside the ballot box.
Not disputing this but lenders & banks will also be lobbying government for the status quo too, and theyâre powerful people. The last thing they want is for properties they have mortgaged to go into negative equity because of it happened on a wide scale, theyâd lose billions.
Powerful people are very good at convincing non powerful people that their aims are aligned. In this case I suspect pushing the idea that anyone can and should own property making it seem that everyone is invested in the system. If a renter sees themselves as a potential property owner theyâd not necessarily want to see any change because in the future it would be their home which would be affected by house price drops, even if owning a home is a pipe dream theyâll never see become reality.
But for real?
The number of restaurants I see that are stating âclosed because of lack of emoloyeesâ - isnât this what you all wanted?
Letâs ignore the whole unemployment debate for a minute even - weâve been absolutely blasting fast food workers for not getting a better job if they wanted to be paid more. What is a whole crew of fast food workers decided âfuck it, Iâm deciding to find a new job now that I have time to create resumes because of Covid.â
And now they just...wonât go back, because you argued that for having the audacity to work in fast food, they shouldnât be able to make a living wage and be able to support themselves.
You donât get to have it both ways.
Plenty of folks have lost their jobs in hospitality and weâre forced into job hunting for jobs which werenât affected by covid. Theyâve found that the sort of job you can do from home or a covid safe office is physically easier, often better paid and has better hours. Is it any wonder no one wants to go back?

My kids keep telling me riddles and they are on par with MBMBAMâs riddle me piss riddles.
A dog is at a park and he finds a bone, then he sees a bigger bone and drops his other one. He leaves the park without a bone. Why? It was a reflection.
Itâs time to start thinking about Christmas lads!
I am very not joking btw. Today we got news from our freight forwarders that at one point this week, nearly half the container shipping capacity out of Asia was sat with their thumbs up their arses in the China sea.
The acute reason for this is ports in and around Shenzhen, China closing due to covid outbreaks, the bigger reason is that the shipping industry is absolutely stupid and constantly operating at max capacity so when anything goes wrong, it all goes to shit and this past 12 months has been a big one for things going wrong. Better get settled for an epic rant story time!
When covid hit China in early 2020, they closed down for lunar new year, which most factories close down for anyways but the length of time they were closed was increased to break the cycle of transmission. During a normal LNY, shipping lines essentially cancel sailings because no one is shipping out and seeing an early March slump in shipping demand they cancelled more sailings. Demand is always a bit high after this as you can imagine but it was increased by the LNY being extended and a sudden increase demand for goods in late March/April as people stayed home.
This demand started to really hit home in July when it became increasingly difficult to obtain space on a vessel. Also the increase in blank sailings (cancelled sailings) came back to bite them in the arse when months later in about November it transpired that as there had been a break in the normal ebb and flow of full containers out of China and empty ones into China, all the empties were sat in ports anywhere but China. This caused problems in not just for getting things out of China but getting things into container yards around the world as they became full of empty containers. In the UK this was a big problem for Felixstowe, which coupled with a few badly timed storms and a poor rollout of a new booking in system, meant that vessels just looked at Felixstowe and thought, ânah, Iâll come back later.â Pressure increased on all UK ports as a result and goods were delayed by up to a month as the vessels offloaded at other ports in Europe before returning or even offloading UK bound containers on the continent to then be driven to the UK.
When all this was finally clearing up, it was LNY again so once again shipping lines operated at limited capacity. Then the Ever Given got stuck which not only had an impact on the vessels stuck behind it, but all the schedules went to shit so even if a vessel wasnât directly impacted, it fucked the entire system.
Once the spectre of this latest shit storm was fading, there were cases of covid at Yantian port, one of the biggest in the world. The port was half closed, initially for four days but this dragged on throughout June. People started to look to nearby ports to ship goods but they too started to shut down due to covid outbreaks. So now we are here, with nothing moving, vessels sat waiting to berth in China and the prospect that the problems caused now will be causing further problems for at least the next six months.
Getting anything out of China is next to impossible at the moment and through all of this the shipping lines have hiked their prices to absurd levels. A container last year cost anywhere between $900-$2000 to ship China to Europe and people are now being quoted at least $17,000. Even then you arenât guaranteed a spot, theyâll happily chuck you off the schedule if they can find someone willing to pay more for the space. Theyâre even fucking over their biggest customers as companies with massive contracts (think huge retailers) are having their booking cancelled because why give the space to a company that has a cheap deal when you can sell the space to someone else who doesnât have that luxury of a good contract and is desperate enough to pay exorbitant fees. Thereâs like 12 shipping lines and if one hikes a price they all do and its all totally legal (legally they canât discuss prices between themselves but informally they can see what their competitors are charging and independently choose to match it). Itâs incredibly shortsighted because long term if the volatility continues, people will look closer to home for production, because if you landed costs are nearly nine times higher than they were a year ago, itâs no longer cheaper to produce goods half way round the world. This doesnât even touch on the damage this does to small businesses which could go under because of this short sighted greed.
Anyway what this boils down to is that there are going to be shortages of consumer goods for at least another six to eight months. If getting the perfect gift for a loved one is important to you, get it now just in case because it will either not be available or it will be more expensive. Also good luck getting your hands on electronics even now, the chip shortage gets thrown in the mix for consumer electronics.
Tl;dr: the supply chain is utterly utterly fucked. Just⌠totally bollocksed. The shipping industry bounces from one catastrophe to another like a drunk man bouncing off parked cars and theyâre not even attempting to sober up.
Ok so can someone explain to me how cryptocurrency pollutes? Like what crazy calculations are they running that they need enough brainpower to significantly effect things? Like Iâm assuming whatâs causing the pollution is increased electricity consumption but⌠how does sending lil pretend money tokens back and forth or whatever cause so much pollution?
Also, what the fuck is âminingâ? How d'you mine⌠like bitcoin is not a naturally occurring resource, and I assume that you canât just make it, cause that would make it instantly worthless⌠help?
So you get âcoinsâ as a reward for performing the cryptographic calculations necessary to update the public ledger which is the blockchain. This is, by design, an increasingly complex and resource intensive process to slow down the collection of (intentionally finite) coins.
So every transaction with bitcoins requires the ledger to be updated with the current ownership of every already existing bitcoin, which also requires encrypting and decrypting a bunch of information and sharing it across the public ledger. So every transaction made with bitcoins increases the energy requirements of updating the ledger making it harder and harder to complete the latest version and get the coin which is a reward for doing that work.
Thereâs a lot I donât fully understand myself but the long and short of it is that the actual value of any crypto currency is pretty much just what people agree on, except instead of a fiat currency where a government says itâs worth something and a mint that makes physical currency, thereâs a bunch of nerds who agree that solving certain math problems is worth rewarding.
Feeling like adding on for a bit of context, I know itâs kind of hard to understand how mining for really any kind of crypto is hard to imagine, but seeing what a bitcoin mining facility looks like for the first time really helped me realize just how energy intensive it is.
See all these warehouses? Theyâre quite literally filled to the brim with specialized computers that do nothing but mine, each one filled with thousands of these computers, just row after row of this:
So all the power consumption winds up adding up like crazy.
Yep, thatâs why cryptocurrency and NFTs are considered major contributors to pollution â because the energy needs of all those computers doing the calculation are equivalent to a medium sized country. Currently, crypto consumes more energy than Argentina.
Guess whatâs inside a lot of mining rigs? Gowan, guess.
Graphics cards!Â
Lots and lots of these puppies side by side, spinning their little fans as fast as they can go because as it turns out: GPUs are perfect for doing the calculations required for mining cryptocurrency.
Which means amateur miners buy a lot of these things.
So many, in fact, that there is now (May 2021) a world-wide shortage of NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards and building a new gaming rig is damn near impossible because of the shortage.Â
OR you can pay a ridiculously inflated price by GPU scalpers on eBay.
Seriously. Places that sell GPUs impose quantity limits because if they donât⌠some crypto asshole will buy out their entire stock in one go.
But the âgoodâ news is that the professional miners (like the Bitmain site up there, in the photos) use dedicated ASIC mining rigs which donât use consumer GPUs. But (bad news) they DO use the same sort of chips that NVIDIA & AMD rely on to make their products, which just starves the supply pipeline at a different point.
Bottom line: not only does cryptocurrency mining consume terawatts of electricity, it also consumes megatons of computer hardware. Which is expensive to produce (in resource terms, like rare metals, petroleum, water, electricity, paper) and will, someday, require even MORE resources to recycle. Or else it ends up in a landfill.
Note that current dedicated mining rigs are so highly specialized they are useless for anything other than mining. They cannot be easily repurposed to (say) sequence DNA or fold proteins for miracle cures.
What a waste.
was anyone gonna tell me that some nerds peepee poopoo âcurrencyâ is the reason why graphics cards are sold out everywhere or was i supposed to find that out from comments under a screenshot from twitter user whoreganic cop puncher explaining how bitcoin is just an artificially complicated math problem
Also Iâve read be very wary about buying used graphic cards cause thereâs a chance itâs one thatâs mostly heavily used from one of these bastards. These thing are very heavily used so a used one sold by one of these guys would be on its last leg of life from being on 24/7
Make sure thereâs a return policy just be very careful if youâre buying used.
To be more fair than Crypto miners deserve, theyâre only one of the factors driving the current chip shortage.
The other issues are both related to the pandemic. The first one is that manufacturing of a many things, especially cars, slowed down quite a bit until recently when the factories reopened. But so many reopened at the same time and went full blast that the demand far outstripped the supply, a supply already reduced by the shutdown of those factories.
The other bottleneck is literal mining. Computer chips rely on silicon and various metals, especially gold and copper to conduct electricity to do their work. In normal times this means that cryptoâs environmental impact is even higher than just the energy requirements. But in the meantime the mines and refineries that provide the raw materials were also shut down in many cases due to the pandemic, squeezing the supply further.
Mining shutdowns have also caused a huge shortage of ammunition in the US (brass bullet casings need copper). Which means for anybody wanting to buy consumer electronics of a reasonable complexity youâre competing against both ends of the libertarian spectrum, the crypto techies and the gun nuts.
Really glad someone brought this home to actual mining, and I want to show you what the mines look like:
These are silica mines, necessary for making ALL things requiring silicon, among other things.
These are rare-earth mineral mines.
Both are required for the manufacture of computer technologies. Both requre excavating huge amounts of earth, decimating all life in that area and more often than not, ruining land that is supposed to be stewarded by indigenous people.
Theyâre very, very bad for the environment.
This is where the âonlineâ world comes from. Itâs not another place. Every transaction, every pixel comes from the ground.
So yeah, crypto mining is definitely deceptive. That âvalueâ isnât coming from nowhere. Itâs ripped from the earth.
So Iain up Earthâs rarest reasorces to make nerd horoscopes, got it.
This educated the fuck out of me. Thank you
I believe theyâre reopening a tungsten mine in Devon which will probably be used for circuitry as itâs a key component.
ppl talk abt the beginning of covid and the first lockdown alot but nobody talks abt how truly deeply evil september-december 2020 was like that was a desolate and twisted time actually
It was the longest and shortest period at the same time and Iâm not sure it was real
Fucking brutal, and I could see what was coming and no-one was listening.
And it feels like we are headed back there.
Yes. People are going crazy because summer, and weâre just going to get locked down again. Itâs ridiculous.
Why arenât we learning from our mistakes?
Because Boris has to have his ego projects.
G7. Euros final.
When they are over maybe weâll lock down.
I reckon theyâre holding out for the summer holidays and hoping that stops it running rampant around schools cause they wonât do anything else to prevent it spreading to kids. They should have extended half term, but now weâll just have to wait.
I donât even know the song name but Iâm with these people
Isnât there a video of someone driving through a town late at night blaring this song and the crowd milling about reacts in exactly the same way?

Change your last name u ain't even gay
Iâll get right on that.
this is the funniest post on this site. everyone go home. nothing is ever going to be better than actual neil gaiman, on tumblr dot com, answering this ask.
one day some of you will actually go outside and go to pride and youâre going to meet old black queens who refers to themselves as femme, youâll meet people from small towns who still use the word transsexual, youâll see that your local activist organization set up a stall about your local LGBT history that includes leather barâs history, youâll see lesbians in groups refer to themselves as âguysâ and âboysâ, youâll see someone with breasts and pasties and little else have âhe / himâ painted on his chest, and youâll be so caught up with your terminally online attitude that instead of appreciating the wide diversity of people who exist in the LGBT community who are brave enough to share themselves youâll just be formulating posts and tweets in your head for when get home about how âproblematicâ it all was and itâs honestly tragic
