I read a sad piece article a few weeks ago about how hard it is to make real friends as an adult, but that actually runs counter to my experience, largely thanks to yoga. I’ve made many permanent friends in almost a decade that I have been practicing, my yearly trips to Mysore, classes that I conduct, and just hanging out at the studio. These aren’t “situational friends,” either, but people with whom I can have deep discussions, if the need for such a thing actually ever manifests. These are three essential actions to consider while practicing #krounchasana to make of it a deeper expression with more space and freedom for the energy to flow : 1️⃣👉🏽 Ensure your thigh of the lower leg is rolling out and so the calves are also rolling out, this will ensure the proper alignment of the knee and as a consequence will create more space for the correspondent sit-bone to have weight so the hips are leveled instead of collapsing towards the sit-bone of the upper leg. 2️⃣👉🏽 use the thoracic breath by engaging Uddhyana Bandha to create more space between the spine, looking for the action of extending the spine before folding forward instead of curving the spine and pressing down. One of the last practices I did at the shala before #typhoonodette slammed Siargao so bad. Swipe left to see the aftermath. When we receive a tragedy or a shock in our lives, our body tends to go into fight meaning looking for someone to blame or flight meaning we try to calm ourselves with clichés like "everything happens for a reason" response. In these trying times like in yoga, when we feel our body resisting, is to breathe through it. We must become more present than usual. By breathing into our discomfort, we empower ourselves to feel uncomfortable without panicking. Each new breath draws us more deeply into awareness and allows us to move on to the next breath, the next step. We feel sadness, horror, grief, compassion, acceptance, anger, relief, sorrow, and, just for a moment, awareness of it all.
