✨Just as we use food as a substitute for love and nourishment, so do we use body image as a substitute for "body reality".
✨Body image is a mental snapshot we hold of our body overlaid with a complex of feelings, judgements, and fantasies. Stated in another way, body image is how we imagine our body together with the emotional repercussions of that imagining.
✨We may wake up one morning feeling very good about ourselves and about how we look. This is often called a "positive" body image. We may awaken the next morning feeling unhappy with life and with our appearance and hence have a "negative" body image.
🤷♀️The body has not changed at all, however our mental state has.
👉Someone with an ideal body could have a negative body image, while someone whom others wight consider psychically unappealing could have a very positive body image.
✨That shows us, physical appearance has little to do with body image. It is the self-image that determines our body image. Who we are inside and how content we are determine the degree to which we accept our body.
