There's something so painful in that line to me.

Because, Derek is essentially saying "How can you die for someone you don't even know? How can you die for a stranger?"

And while it may seem like Derek is being a bit of a hypocrite---considering he only met Avery a few hours ago, he really isn't.

Because Avery isn't a stranger to him.

He knows Avery. Infinite knowledge let him showed him who Avery was. He knew Avery's name. He probably knew Avery's favorite color and his favorite food. He could literally identify a fake (seemingly identical) Avery.

Derek knew everything about Avery.

Avery wasn't a stranger to Derek.

Oh, maybe the woman who had to pee in a public park that only had pay toilets, so she tried to hide behind the bushes but got caught? Public urination is a sex crime.

Oh, maybe you mean the homeless guy who had to strip down to get his clothes in the laundromat to clean them for the first time in weeks? He tried being subtle, but someone called the cops on him, and now he's on the sex offender registry for public nudity.

How about the 17 year olds who were fooling around, fully consensually, in one of their bedrooms? That's still technically underage sex and thus rape of a minor.

Oh, or maybe you're talking about the doctor who performed genital reconstructive surgery in a state that just voted to get that classified as rape?

People will do everything they can to get you convinced rape and pedophilia are the worst crimes possible, then accuse whoever they like the least of being either a rapist, a pedophile, or both, counting on you turning on them just for being accused of the crime.

That's exactly what I'm goddamn saying.

Once we decide a group is okay to kill, the government will do everything they can to convince you that their political enemies are either part of that group, or just as bad as that group, to get you to kill their enemies for them.

you're allowed to FEEL like you want to kill rapists (esp your own if such a misfortune has befallen you). you're even allowed to WANT and WISH for their deaths. that's all normal natural and dare i say... healthy???

it's perfectly sensible to feel all that rage and bloodlust as we grieve the loss of our autonomy, even if it was brief, or if we grieve the fact that this happens to others, or the prevalence of this crime, etc. whatever the reason you want that person dead, you're certainly entitled to that mental state

all of those feelings are yours, and you are allowed to feel them as long as it takes you to feel them

Like if you're a fat gay man you're a bear and that's the only gender expression you're "allowed". I've never, ever, seen someone refer to an effeminate fat gay man as a femboy. It doesn't matter if he's dressing the exact same way as the twink (who's gender expression is explicitly about thinness), the twink is a femboy twink and the bear is just a girly bear.

I see it over in sapphic spaces too. Butch is a word that yes is open to women of all sizes but Femme really.... isn't? Femme presumes that you're thin. Sure you can be a fat femme, but your fatness will detract from how femme you are and if you do anything less than High Femme Princess Peach ass shit then you'll be shoved into the Butch Zone despite anyone with eyes knowing that you're not butch you're just a fat femme who didn't have the energy to do her full Instagram Cottage Core outfit today

Its been a known both in and out of the trans community that fatness may as well be its own gender experiance. If you're a cis woman, but you're also fat, your gender is now fat. Oh people will still she/her you, but you're gonna be unpersoned because you're not attractive enough to be a woman. If you're a cis man it'll be the same deal, just repeatedly dehumanized because fatness isn't attractive to mainstream society and if people's boners don't activate then you aren't a real man/woman.

It wasn't so much that they were actively pushing me out. But the entire group and all of the conversations were so "woman" coded that it was dysphoria-inducing. Because a lot of the fat acceptance was tied into feminism and not letting the patriarchy define you and, yes...but also not a woman, yano?

Going from having a weight-neutral community to none was a shock. And, just like the rest of the world, a heavy vein of fatphobia runs through the trans community. To be a trans woman is to be curvy (but only in the right places) and feminine. To be a trans man is to be bearded and heavily muscled. And to be nonbinary is to be the ethereal other, a mystical fae entity or some shit.

It's common enough that young black kids are told to keep any identifying information on them at all times just in case someone reports a black kid breaking and entering by walking into the house they've lived at since they were born. Because that has happened.

When you add mental illness and the healthcare industry into the mix, things only get worse from there. To be clear, you don't need to be black or mentally ill to be treated poorly by a doctor or nurse that's decided they know you better than you do. But it sure doesn't make things easier.

And people have died as a result- or have we already forgotten the death of Adriana Smith who went to THE HOSPITAL SHE WORKED AT AS A NURSE reporting severe headaches and was dismissed as exaggerating and imagining the severity, only to be declared brain dead upon arrival less than 24 hours later and artificially kept alive to force her dead body to carry her baby to term- which couldn't even happen and they had to remove him via C-section anyway.

Letting off some steam…

but a week or so ago Chao (who is currently in my care, @lizrrdbreath 's cat) suddenly stopped eating and kept throwing up bile and water around the apartment. me and my roommate were hella concerned so we took her to the vet and they ran the full gamut of tests and basically just found fuckin. Nothing. Nothing too weird on the blood tests, nothing on radiography that suggested she ate something fucked up and blocking her little organs, nothing in the apartment she could have eaten by accident since none of our plants are pet toxic....

she got an anti-nausea shot, some tummy meds and was fine in a few days and began to eat again

it was stressful but there WERE moments of levity throughout the process

first of all

DIAGNOSIS: ANOREXIA????? Is there not any??? other way to report a pet not eating??? why are we doing psych evals on cats???? hello????? I understand vet and human terms are different but this was jarring to see when we were really stressed out

second of all, because we had to hide the meds in the high-calorie recovery food she now expects to be served delicious goop as an aftenoon lunch meal like a little princess so there's that

and finally, while I'm glad it's truly nothing serious, that initial appointment plus the 180 dollar follow up means that
