so the lore is essentially being a public servant (ie. politician) pays next to nothing so you can't rlly do it unless you've got some sort of passive income (which my mom didn't, but my dad worked) so my parents kinda dug themselves into a hole until they had 2 kids. at which point my mom went back to being a highly paid lawyer, meaning i have basically no college fund and no shot at need-based scholarships

Also, "5-10 minutes early is on time" NO!! That's WAGE THEFT. Those 5-10 minutes a day add up to 1 hour 40 to 3 hours 20 a month that you're not being paid (never mind the time they'll inevitably insist you stay longer after your shift to finish tasks). That shit adds up!
