I have no idea why we chose monk for this but hi monk. funny how that happens. tbh it might not’ve even been us writing something but instead the fictives manifest as us “writing”. it’s really a chicken and the egg situation
the lack of discussion about polyfragmented systems, especially very very big polyfragmented systems, is honestly really disappointing. like yeah we made that post about folks with infinite members and such but that is the only time we've seen something like that.
when all you see about your existence is how annoying or difficult or unmanageable it must be, it gets grating. we have NEVER seen a polyfrag post get anywhere close to our amount of members, because apparently anything over 1,500 is completely unmentionable. and even then, polyfragmented medians, spiritual systems, or people who have always been polyfrag are just not talked about.
our most modest estimate is that we have 100,000 members. our more accurate estimate is probably around 500,000. and there is systems who are WAY larger than this, somebody reading this is probably pushing the concept of infinity to a newfound limit!
outside of community spaces, the medical journals about polyfragmentation are so clinical, exclusive, and honestly inaccurate a lot of the time. there's more to multiplicity than just hosts and protectors and persecutors and fully-fledged people who can still somehow be boiled down to a convenient, palatable archetype. (i have thoughts on roles but that will be another post)
so many systems don't or can't have defined or consistent roles, origins, identities, internal communication, switches, structure, innerworlds, amnesia, opinions, etc (or have these things at all!!!) and expecting polyfrag systems to fit into the already narrow and stigmatized definition of what you think a system should be is honestly just plain screwed up.
this is messy and there's a lot more i want to say, but mecfs is kicking my ass, so...
to very large polyfragmented systems: please talk about your experiences. tag rambling highly encouraged!!!
Trying to find spaces as a polyfrag system is always annoying because I always end up talking to small systems that act like being a big system is something
A. They can overlook and treat us as one monolith because many of us have overlapping personalities
B. That it is the greatest sin on earth to be a big system
C. That we have be miserable about it
And it continues to happen. Its annoying asf and people clearly don't think before they speak. This happens in other polyfrag spaces because we're twice the size of many other polyfrag systems we meet.
Honestly wish there was like, a 1k+ polyfrag community so I don't have to deal with this kind of dissonance.
A Zine by the Guild of Ghosts (aka speculative-spectres. This is our art sideblog.) about being Polyfragmented in a world that is not made for you.

We have been asked this question so many times, and as our headcount has climbed higher and higher it has become more and more fatiguing to field and respond to.
From strangers to family, when faced with a number of people larger than they can picture in one room, inevitably seem to spout out this question or a variant of it.
We've seen others online similarly frustrated with it, but all the same the majority of the times we've encountered others (including other systems) saying this, it's been Online. In "system communities".
Not every system is the same just as no house looks and functions the same on the inside. How do we live that way? We just do. It's either live here or live nowhere, because there is no other option. Every headmate has been here for a reason, regardless of how tiny or established of a fragment they are. Whether they stay or go or intermittently return.
It can be chaos just as it can be calm. Treating it as something normal becomes part of your routine when this Is (emphasis) your normal. There are so many other questions to ask, and politer ways to word them, but the easiest one is this:
"Are you up for explaining how your system works day-to day?"
Not everyone will be. Accept that. But the ones who do will likely be much more receptive because you're not reacting negatively.
You are engaging with us. Please don't treat others like test subjects unless you know they're cool with it.

this is probably my favorite tiktok of all time and I finally got around to showing it to my dad the other day and now he comes home every day and tells me about all the places he saw crumbling concrete and says "guess they didn't add enough chinchilla flakes"
My dad has worked in construction is whole life, primarily with a company that does concrete foundations, and I immediately sent him this back when I first found it on TikTok, and he IMMEDIATELY shared it with everyone he worked with. They apparently still quote it on his job sites to this day.

Thinking about the whole "there is no platonic explanation for this" thing and how it doesn't account for intense platonic situationships and anyways I think we should start saying "there is no casual explanation for this" bc really what we're talking about is the way the characters in question are Obsessed with each other
I think a fun way to have he/she pronouns would be by helping other avoid the ambiguous antecedent problem and taking on the pronouns that are less represented in the current group.

turns out i wasn't making that up, his name is Dr. Toru Miyazaki! he also wrote a book called "The Day Cats Live To Be Thirty", so cats are kind of his thing.
apparently, cats' kidneys tend to be the thing that takes them down, something about their bodies being unable to self-clean their kidneys, and the vaccine is supposed revitalize the body's ability to do just that. It would be very VERY fucking cool to have cats suddenly reaching 30 years of age be the normal thing.
As they age, almost all cats develop kidney disease, from which they eventually die. Just as in humans, kidney disease i
Dr. Toru Miyazaki’s AIM injection for cat kidney disease enters trials in 2025, aiming for a 2027 release. Greycoat Research supports the sc
whoa wait i actually read the articles and it's so much cooler than just that!!
dude cracked the case about WHY kidneys fail, across the board as far as i can tell. turns out there's a specific molecule whose job it is to attach to waste and signal macrophages to come eat it. it remains inactive in cats for some reason, but the molecule is still there. basically what he's done is found the switch to activate them. this will be profound not only for our domestic babies, but for big cats too - especially cheetahs!
although his research was focused on cats, it's already being used to develop drugs for humans too!
on top of that, since these molecules are tags for waste, this could also dramatically lower the rate of fatty liver disease, liver cancer, urinary crystals, rheumatoid arthritis, and even some neurological cases! like, they're hoping it may have an impact on parkinson's and alzheimers, but it DOES have an impact on stroke recovery. like. holy shit.
furthermore, he's insisting that the feline drug be affordable if and when it rolls out onto the market. he wants this to be something anyone can get for their cat!! idk how much sway he'll have over the human drug, but hopefully enough that it, too, won't be that expensive.
annnnnd in his research that he's still doing for the human side of things, he's found a potential link between this molecule and estrogen. in the 20,000 samples he's tested, women between ages 10 and 29 had the highest amount of this molecule present in their blood (a higher amount means Something Fucky is going on, essentially. There's a higher amount of waste the body is trying to clean out) but it drops down to be almost equal amongst men and women after menopause. it hasn't been looked into yet, but fuck, just the fact it's noted and known and probably WILL be looked into soon??? imagine if this is what leads to figuring out all the various ways the ovaries and uterus fucks with people and how to fix it. or even like, maybe there's something about estrogen that makes it work better. who knows! but it's rad the link is there to be researched :D
man just think, not only could our kitties start living longer, healthier lives, but just maybe dialysis will become as rare and obsolete as the iron lung is for people. what a badass Dr. Toru is!
Update: So they have done clinical trials and have submitted it for approval as of april 2026. They are expecting it to be available late 2026/early 2027

As for the study itself, the 360 day follow up on stage 3 kidney failure kitties showed that the control had a survival rate of about 20%, while the test group had a survival rate of 80%
