Stitch, I went to The Great Scottish Tapestry today to see it in person and it was fucking immense. It’s 160 panels that depicts the history of Scotland from pre-history to today (well, 5 years ago when it was made) that was stitched by 1000 Scottish stitchers of varying levels of ability and it’s just fucking gorgeous. I recommend having a look online at it or even getting the book that features every panel and an explanation of what it depicts and if you’re ever in Galashiels in Scotland I recommend paying the extortionate £13 entrance fee and getting a sore back from spending hours trying to take in every one of the panels. A truly amazing thing to exist. Here’s a few snapshots I took:
I was a big fan of them following the medieval tradition of just having random little guys here and there. Wait. I didn’t include the owl. Stitch. The owl.
Look at him! He’s just a little guy! Anyway, I have no idea if you’re already familiar with this or live down the road from it or have never heard of it before but it brought me joy and a sore neck so I thought I’d pass it on to you!
This is really cool! I've known about the project and gotten some pics in an ask previously but nothing of this scope or depth. It is unlikely I'll ever get to see it in person and I had no clue that it has basically marginalia lol.
