now, apart from endlessly ongoing oneshots, some of the longest multichapter fanfics I've personally read were between 750.-900.000 words long in their entirety and some of the longest chapters were all in one multi-chap work and consistently around 20.000 words long, intending to emulate the amount of content/events happening inside of a whole 45minute TV-series episode..

on the other hand, some of the shortest works I've ever read were mostly original Haikus or FlashFictions, like One-Sentence Stories or Drabbles of exactly 100 words.

in contrast, my own chaps usually range from at the very least 550words (in those sweet 5-Things short stories with single scenes that I post in separate chaps) up to about 2000 words, and this has the simple reason that I first started reading FFs back in school and when having double lessons we usually got a 5minute break inbetween the two 45minute lessons AND in that time I was able to completely read 1000-1500 word oneshots and chapters fully to the end, AND it works just the same these days when I join people on their 5 minute smoke break, so that's just the basis of 'amount of words in one sitting' that I got used to see..

like, as a reader, of course I love a lot to read ... however, I don't particularly enjoy to have to read one single chapter over like 10 points in time across 2 days simply because I cannot for the life of me get even 30 minutes of free time at a stretch until 3 in the morning with my alarm set to go in 2 hours and the accumulated lack of sleep of a week dragging my eyelids down..

Im not sure what definition of sexual attraction is meant to be used here, but the one I usually see in aspec spaces is something like “a desire to have sex with a person” which definitely doesn’t apply to aego

Besides that we have “no desire to participate in sexual activities with another person”. Which, sure, but that’s not remotely specific to aegosexuals

though, personally, I also very much dislike the referenced definition of attraction as desire ..

attraction, imho, is basically "based on the other person", in that they are attractive to another (without trying to get any responsibility stuff into it, ofc)

desire, imho, is what's "coming more from oneself", which is how there can be a disconnect between attraction and desire (and likely why this specific contradiction resulted in the coining of micro-labels 'cupio' and 'orchid')

so, the way it is phrased, aego ought to be replaced by orchid-sexual, the actual opposite to cupio

(cupiosexuals feel no actual attraction but still have a desire to have sex (sex-favorable aces) / orchidsexuals do feel attraction but have no desire to ever act on it in (and might even be outright sex-repulsed))

aego probably should (when going with my understanding of attraction/desire and how it's phrased in the chart) be under 'depends' and might have something along the lines of 'but removed from oneself / only without self-involvement' when it comes to the hypothetical / fantasized idea of sex ?

but admittedly also because, while I'm not deaf or hearing impaired, even I would appreciate some more attention to 'details' like subtitles .. if they exist at all

(like, do able-bodied people even notice how often they profit from a lot of disability accommodations???)

as a non-native English speaker often forced to rely on English media, especially ... I can understand written English just fine, but e.g. spoken dialects and accents or plain mumbling instead of clear distinct pronunciation can give me some trouble - which is also the point where automated captions usually fail ..

and the accidental hiding of important information is an issue that appears even with simple descriptions of video shorts, e.g. on fb, where the text moves up to cover relevant data or is invisible on top of the pictured background

not my tweet or my fic (and there’s a good chance of this comment being a bot) but yeah, don’t do this. sure, some writers wouldn’t mind having fanfics (or direct continuation) of their fanfics written by someone else. some may even be thrilled and happy. but the fandom etiquette is that if you want to write a fanfic or a continuation of someone’s fanfic, YOU POLITELY ASK THE WRITER FOR THEIR PERMISSION. not their readers.

So, in the comments/reblogs/tags/whatev to this post, I have found a small yet concerning amount of people not distressed by or even outright defensive of that situation, which is why I'll explain my take on the issue in hopes of clarifying what I believe the problem is that a lot of us writers have with the approach taken above.

First of all, I mean, I have read really interesting 'inspired by' stories, like "what if"s of existent AUs, and I think that is a very similar concept that us fanfic authors in general use in relation to canon-creators, with the difference being that neither fan makes money, whereas the OG-right owners do.

Personally, I'd be honored if someone enjoyed a story of mine so much they got specifically inspired themself, and since I write for myself (I only ever publicly post for others) I might just enjoy their story in turn and everyone could be even more happy with the share of new works.

And I have also seen stories - that at some point, years after the last chapter, instead of being Continued (which has also often enough happened years after a last chap) switched from 'Hiatus' to 'Abandoned' or even explicitly 'Up for Adoption' for whatever VALID Reason - be taken over by committed fans asking the author in the best case scenario for either blanket permission or otherwise approval of their specific headcanons or originally intended direction and sometimes even be encouraged by them in return, because these authors have never stopped loving their child of love and labor they poured energy and effort into and they would in fact like to see it continued, yet are unable to do so on their own.

Now, while I personally usually only post complete works (which, yeah, didn't you know or do you simply not care that you could actually filter for that, if you were so desperate not to be left on a cliffhanger in the story???), I have to admit I do have an unfinished collab only half-way posted rn myself - for REASONS y'know like Life, Deaths, Disability, Poverty, and the whole Author's curse hitting us both - but neither of us has ever stopped loving that idea and behind the scenes we're still working on the story, and reading those comments above literally hit me right in the motivation, if not to write then to share what I've written, because I get the distinct impression that this 'continue myself' suggestion would probably mean it's getting fed to genAI ... which I do not endorse for the ressource waste, the theft and because it has no place in creative spaces in particular, but that's another topic to rant about.

And this said, all of that (inspiration for something new of their own &/ communicated adoption) is completely different to the here displayed sort of greedily impatient entitlement, of literally stealing another's work - because they're not interacting inside a community to respectfully worry about the author or politely encourage the story OR creatively putting their own spin on it as an AU e.g. like all fanfic authors do, they intend to "continue" an actual Work-in-PROGRESS, as is, to take the credit for the already existent parts themself, and spitting on the writer's bts effort and burdens.

... and all of that after 5 months, that timespan is so messing with my brain, that's not even a semester at school or Uni which could very well take up a writer's time, that's literally half the timespan of a human pregnancy, that's not even ONE (1) year as an anniversary like some milestone, that is so negligible in the grand scheme and if that story is actually as good and beloved, then it's sure as fuck well worth a wait.

If you're so motivated, write your own 'inspired by'-take on the concept. If you're so impatient, think up or write down the continuation and ending you want for yourself. But don't you dare take away another's work to publicly post for your own 'profit' and interactive attention.

Chapter 6/?: Four Promises

leave the poor guy alone, he's been in captivity for who knows how long (I'm aware that the books supposedly declare something like twenty years, but tbh I almost think it must've been decades more than that) and just wants to feel the grass beneath his fingers, and the wind in his hair and the metaphorical sand between his toes (and also to see the sky again) ...

no, but really, I srsly doubt he's ever lain 'vulnerable', ie exposed like that in his prison cell, considering we first encounter him sitting with his back against the wall, so this might be the first time in a long time for him to stretch his spine like that .. plus also considering he was so starved he couldn't even stand up straight at first and he likely wouldn't waste energy by pacing to stretch his legs, either way..

.. now, yet another fact to consider, and let's be honest here, is that feet closer to the body and legs propped up would have been even gayer (which, sure, I'm always here for that, but anyway) and I'm not sure ankles crossed would have been that much better (or would it?) so, really, how many other positions are there that he could have chosen ?!?

and to come back to the more serious aspects of it once more, considering the gun shots in his right side he's prolly just keeping his arm angled away from the wounds, so, like, he also can't rest on his side .. now, tell me, hasn't he been through enough pain already and yet you judge him for not striking a pretty pose like one of your french girls, or what?? is the era of whump making a return or why do you want him to suffer even more?
