Burning Vengeance (Ronald C. Ross, 1989)
If you haven't been keeping up with what else I'm doing outside this platform, I've been a closed caption and subtitle editor for nearly the last 10 years now, with the largest bulk of my work on anime releases. Most recently, this week the English dub of Though I Am an Inept Villainess debuted, and I'm credited as the closed caption editor on the series. If you're watching this show (particularly on Hulu or Disney+ where captions can easily be turned on), be sure to watch the show with the captions on for me!

Little Ableisms 2
Hire real fucking people to do you captions. AutoGen captions suck. They can't tell the difference between crying or laughing, sniffing, sniffling, or snorting. They fuck up words constantly. They don't add ambient audio. They can't follow layers of speaking.
You know what? You, too, YouTube. Twitch. Give creators a portion of your massive profits to hire transcribers. Feel free to make it that they can only use the money for that, but this saves you the logistics of trying to caption millions of videos withiut putting the burden of cost on small time creators.
Disclaimer: not addressed to smaller creators who don't have the budget, but anything you can do for captions is massively appreciated. Please let your community volunteer if they offer.
Bless people who transcribe, whether as a job or a passion project.

LET CAPTIONS CURSE. Quit censoring curse words in closed captions. Just stop.
The only exception is if the word is censored in the audio, too. Create accurate experiences in media.
Accessibility Question
If you use captions for YouTube videos, and the speaker flubs a line but corrects it on the screen, should the captions reflect the flub or the correct line?
Example: Speaker says: "Apples and bananas" text on screen says "*apples and ORANGES"
Captions should say:
apples and bananas (what the speaker said)
apples and oranges (what the speaker meant)
a 3rd, more specific option
