I’m so glad you asked this! I have thought it out to some amount of detail, but some details are still not completely fleshed out.

So as mentioned in this ask post, Adrian was the one who rescued Simon.

Sometime between the time that Blip-A arrived at Tau Ceti and before the Hail Mary arrived, Adrian and another small crew was sent out to investigate an unusual signal picked up from an unknown space station. At this point the Blip-A crew had taken a longer than expected time on the Tau Ceti mission — Adrian assumed the worse happened to Rocky.

The signal they picked up seems to talk about the future. It mentions the Quiet Rapture, the vanishing of stars and planets, and potential information on the reasoning behind it on the Blood Moon.

Desperate for as much information as the Eridians can gather (as well as Adrian’s personal desire to gain any information linked to what happened to their mate and Blip A), the Eridians head to the Blood Moon.

TLDR: some physics, magic, shinanigans happen — they meet/rescue Simon and head back to Erid (In my mind, the Blood Moon is closer to Erid than Tau Ceti, so Simon would actually arrive on Erid first)

The second portion, of your question: how did they tailor Simon’s biodome with all the trees. Inspired by the Pando Forest, a lot of the trees are identical clones of the tree grown from Simon’s pendant. All other plants and greenery are genetically modified from the seed or native Eridian plants. Simon gets more plants from the Hail Mary after Grace and Rocky arrive :)!

Now how did they discover stuff like soil and other environmental factors to help Simon in growing plants and getting comfortable? … I didn’t think that far lol. Science.

At some point, I contemplated making a spinoff comic with this information on how Adrian and Simon met. But there’s still a bunch of holes I probably didn’t think through. So tentatively, this is the (non-canon, canon) lore of the biodome neighbors au.

Wanted to talk about something:

I’m getting some messages expressing concern and confusion about the biodome neighbors au (especially Grace and Simon) and wanted to answer a few of these.

1) Why are Rocky and Adrian making these decisions on a whim without consulting Simon/Grace? Isn’t that a bit fucked up?

Yeah it is, and that’s a bit by intention. When I was drafting it, it was with the thought in mind that Rocky wasn’t aware that Grace didn’t consent to going on the Hail Mary mission.

He’s seen how being alone has affected Grace and hopes introducing Simon will help ease some of the loneliness. He’s also a bit overcautious and wary about the introduction. He’s doesn’t know if the interaction will turn violent.

Eventually, Grace was to realize where the source of Rocky’s (wikihow) research was from and have a talk about it — addressing how he got on the mission.

It’s NOT Rocky’s or Adrian’s hope to control or strip Grace and Simon of their autonomy. They’re just concerned on how to introduce the only two (very traumatized) aliens on their planet

2) I thought Grace and Simon already met, why are they in each others biodome now?

So technically, they did — behind xenonite glass, for a short amount of time. They actually haven’t met truly face to face yet. If we’re going by references, this is Step 3 of Method One of this wikihow article: How to Introduce Two Cats, interacting through a door.

3) So, will they meet in person eventually?

A lot of this context was going to be explained in future panels of the comic — as Grace and Simon slowly figure out what the Eridians are up to.

I admit, I am feeling a bit dejected as a lot of these were to be explained in later parts. But I wanted to address it now; I understand the concern at the direction of this comic and the urgency some might feel when it comes to the aim of the series.

I hope this clears some things up. The goal wasn’t to glorify the situation at all, merely to highlight the importance of communication in misunderstandings (even with good intentions). I apologize if the tone of the comic came off as endorsement.

Great question! So while Rocky and Grace were doing their thing, Adrian was actually on a separate astrophage mission where they met (rescued) Simon.

You know that bloodymary trope that’s like: Grace rescues Simon from the blood ocean and he’s all like “omg are you an angel?”.

I like to think a similar thing happened when Adrian rescued Simon… except more biblically. Simon saw a multi-limbed, no face, creature singing in chords rescue him and was like “is this an angel??”.
