I needed this drag. Letâs change guys and not look back
working out your brain is a must!!
⢠hydrate it by drinking lots of water
⢠eat dark chocolate and blueberries and walnuts and salmon and other foods high in antioxidants!!
⢠play little brain games on your phone; I like wordconenct! anything that makes you think!
⢠read books. Itâs simple but necessary. Even better - join a book club, or read with a friend, so you can have discussions after. This will improve your reading comprehension.
⢠do puzzles - it doesnt have to be sudoku, I love playing Beat Saber on the Oculus Rift because it makes my brain have to match colorful patterns to physical movements very quickly!
⢠learn a new dance - even a tik tok trendy dance. Learning new dance moves are proven to strengthen synapses!!
⢠go bird watching, or foraging, or anything outdoors that requires you to explore pattern recognition and visual searching
⢠watch a movie with the intent of analysis - this is best done with a cinephile friend!! talk about tropes and symbolism and character growth
⢠cross stitch, or sew, or do anything that requires matching nimble hand movements to patterns
⢠play or learn an instrument!
⢠develop a consistent sleep schedule (or as close to consistent as you can get!)
⢠when eating, try to identify the ingredients and flavors youâre perceiving!
I hope this helps :)
I like how this went from me feeling like âhm why is this attacking me đ¤¨â at first, but feeling grateful seeing an added guide on a genuine expansion on a â how toâ work out the brain. This genuinely helps a bunch. People find solace in doing activities that get them through life by doing said activities of phone/tv or if thatâs all theyâve ever known in their life to get them through things + etc tho. However, this was very impt to point out. Slowly beginning incorporating things to work the brain in ones own time.
There was a study that showed sommeliers had lower, or later appearing, instances of dementia. It was because they didnât just drink wine, they analyzed what they were drinking, looked for specific notes, comparisons to other fruits and wines, took notes, and the process engaged multiple senses as well.
So you can exercise your mind doing every day things you already do if you add a couple extra moments and steps.
legit the best advice i can give you: feed your friends
any time someone is in any kind of crisis or upheaval, offer to feed them. tell them they donât have to choose what it is if they canât make decisions, just ask about allergies and preferences and tell them youâre just gonna make food happen at their house.
friend having a baby? delivery gift certificate to order food to the hospital after the kid shows up.
someoneâs relative passes away? offer to make them dinner.
buddy gets laid off? ask if you can order them lunch.
pal stuck in a depressive episode? offer to drive them to fucking mcdonalds, if thatâs what they want.
people in crisis are tired and sad and angry and the last thing most of them are doing is thinking about feeding themselves. so if you have the ability or time or money, providing that is always, always a good move.
legit i do this all the time, and it is 100% always appreciated. i have taught all my friends that when something happens, we feed each other. it makes people feel extremely cared for, and I cannot recommend it enough.
This is really important: tell them they donât have to choose what it is if they canât make decisions
Decision fatigue is such a thing.
All i ever want to do at any given time of day is cook for my loved ones
Please please please this. Omg
Iâm a person who finds it very easy to make friends. That being said, I have to make pretty big, pretty important decisions, sometimes on a snap, in an instant, while a gang of people are disagreeing all around me.
When I get done with that and go meet friends, I know youâre all trying to be nice, but just insisting âno please just tell me what you want, we can eat anything just say what you wantâ is NOT making the process *easier* for me.
I can find something I want at just about any restaurant. I will eat home cooking and be honored that someone chose to make something for me.
The only thing that *does* make that process bad for me; is being forced,
once again,
sometimes in another group of arguing faces who refuse to agree,
To Decide For Everybody
Literally this even more now than two years ago. Please everyone in the world, figure out how to make a decision. Do it for me. I will be happy to eat where you want to eat
If I have an idea I will share it quickly, openly, and without hesitation.
I just need other people to do that too
I made a âgameâ of picking restaurants with people that makes it easier.
I give 5 food types (American, Chinese, Thai, Mexican, etc, any types). Now other person picks 2 from that list.
Of the two types here are 2 or 3 restaurants of each of those. Pick 1 from each group.
Ok, now we are down to 2 choices. Does one sound better than the other? If not, I will pick one of the 2 you chose. Yay, food has been chosen.
This takes less than five minutes usually.
Playthrough example:
1: Where do you want to eat?
2: idc, anywhere is fine (lie, anywhere is not fine, stop people pleasing. Or I feel like garbage and literally nothing sounds appealing).
1: ok, pick 2 of these: Chinese, American, Mexican, Thai, Puerto rican
2: uh⌠I guess puerto Rican and american
1: ok, pick one or two of each of these: Rallys, Red Robin, or Local Burgers or NYRican, Dominicans, or PR Bar & Grill?
2: not fast food, burgers donât sound good either. Red Robin I guess and NYRican and PR Bar and Grill
1: alright, NYRican sounds good to me. Is that good with you?
2: yes, you drive
Done!
Versions of this work so well. Offering someone choices helps narrow it down for them and makes it easier.
This is what the professor and I did. We both loved a variety of cuisines, just not always at the same time. If either led with, idk, idc, you pick, the other would list three restaurants (go right to specifics) they were in the mood for, and the idk-idc person would pick one of those three. Done.
The rare (very rare!) times the 2nd person wasnât in the mood for any of the three, then we did it again, roles reversed. We werenât deciding so much as suggesting our way into a joint decision.
Genuinely want to hear about ârecipesâ people make or their loved ones make that no one would ever think to write down. Tell me all about your favorite clearing out the fridge meals. Your momâs soup thatâs essentially the same everytime but a lil different. All the recipes where you measure with your heart and the only way you can describe the ingredients is âadd veggiesâ. I wanna know about the weird shit you make with ingredients from the Asian grocery store that you know is 0% âauthenticâ but 120% delicious!!! Tell me Iâm begging!!! LET ME KNOW ABOUT THE FORGOTTEN FOODS!!!!! THE FOODS SO NORMAL AND AVERAGE TO YOU THEY ARENT WORTH WRITING DOWN!!!!!!
My contribution is I take Korean sweet potato noodles and boil them in a pot of salted water then I dice up a bunch of veggies (mainly carrots, summer squash, tomatoes, and celery) I put the veggies In with the noodles when thereâs only a couple minutes left on the noodles. I drain it all in a colander once noodles are done and veggies are soft. Add a can of crushed pine apple, Some soy sauce, a lil shake of fish sauce, like half a spoonful of sambal cause Iâm. Baby. Then add way too much sesame oil and top with sesame seeds, chopped green onions and fresh diced celery for the crunch. Itâs delicious and a good way to make myself eat vegetables.

Hey someone suggested I use ChatGPT to figure out adulting today, and as I was going through the mental list of places I'd rather look, I realized "beloved strangers on Tumblr dot net" was on that list.

One of the stranger things about training brand new nurses is explaining how to min max small talk. It feels very weird to coach people on how to chat.
if I make and post an insanely detailed powerpoint on the twenty different equations I run mentally during casual conversation to make it flow better, everyone has to say that it's sexy and cool and not weird at all
remember, everyone promised to be cool! also disclaimer disclaimer disclaimer assume I said all the things you'd say to be like "i know human interaction is complicated, i know some of what i listed here would be very annoying to some people," and all that
Yo, everyone who struggles with casual conversation/social interaction for any reason, they dropped a strat guide!

Remember that learning is a skill!!! Everything is a skill!!!! Socializing is a skill!!! You can learn it!! It may be scary and awkward and you will not be perfect or even good at first. But itâs worth it. You are worth the time it takes to learn something new. Unfortunately you gotta do stuff that is scary and new in life. But even doing new scary things is a skill!!! Avoidance is the fulfillment killer.
Light exercise routine
This is mainly for myself but if this helps someone thatâs great. Do not push your body past its limits. I am not a doctor or personal trainer, again this is mainly for myself. I am physically disabled so this is a good baby work out for me on days when movement is difficult.
Pike stretch, butterfly stretch, runners stretch
10 squats, 10 calf raises
Dance to one approximately 3 minute song. Examples. Humble. By Kendrick Lamar, juice by Lizzo, super graphic ultra modern girl by Chappell Roan, Von Dutch by charlixcx
Pike stretch, butterfly stretch, runners stretch.
Snack foods to keep in pantry
Remember that all food is fuel. It doesnât matter if it seems strange. If youâre able to eat it then thatâs reason enough to eat it.
Toddler pouches. I know this may seem strange but theyâre just purĂŠed fruit and veggies. Some are made specifically with fiber and protein in mind. They are fast and easy for when youâre over hungry.
String cheese
Deli meat (I try to be vegetarian when I can but ham is a safe food so I canât give that up.) especially good wrapped around a cheese stick
Instant mashed potatoes. Use extra butter. Make to your preferred texture.
Apple sauce
Sliced cucumber
Ezekiel bread (protein and fiber)
FrozenProtein waffles
Berries
Mandarin orange
Ritz crackers
What to eat for breakfast?
Roll a d8 digitally or physically and eat the option you roll.
Frozen protein waffles
Toast with avocado, a slice of cheese and ham, cream cheese and cucumbers, or cinnamon and sugar (whatever you have.)
Oatmeal with milk and brown sugar, berries and nuts, or peanut butter and pepitas (whatever you have)
Frosted Flakes
Cucumber, ham and cheese
Pb&j
Silken tofu with brown rice and veggies, or by itself with sesame oil.
Smoothie
I deleted all my social media for almost a year but Iâm back on tumblr specifically to make this blog so I can make decisions for myself in advance.

I honestly hate how art and media have kind of romanticized the idea of like âgoing off your meds and being your true self againâ because like I started taking antidepressants and like immediately got a new job, found a place to live, improved my relationships with people in my life and completely reconciled with my sort of estranged ex-girlfriend?? Medication can be rad and while I realize that itâs not for everybody I donât think anything should be trying to convince anyone that being on medication inherently makes you less of who you are
(Most) Medication is for helping you to be you again. The real me isnât tired by just walking to the train station. The real me is not my anxiety or depression. They donât define me.
The real me is who I am when Iâm not anxious and feeling worthless 24/7.
Medication is supposed to be the chemical equivalent of glasses or a wheelchair, depending on the severity of impairment. It tries to help you compensate for what has been taken, been broken, or is missing.
In particular, i always hear the myth that anti-depressants give you âartificial happinessâ⌠no, no, no. They give your brain the ability to be happy. You wonât always be happy, and sometimes youâll be sad. But the happiness youâre able to feel when youâre on meds is your own, real, happiness.
SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE NEUROTYPICALS IN THE BACK!!!
I mean this is important for neurotypicals but itâs honestly more important for people who struggle with mental illness and hate being on meds for a variety of reasons (aka me).
Take away med stigma! Donât deny yourself something that can help you live a more fulfilling life and donât shame people for their choices!
you all need to âswipe rightâ on some fucking breath mints what the fuck
