I donno, maybe accepting that people in the past had different ideas about beauty and modesty and different styles and body types they found attractive is a low stakes way to become more accepting of the fact that different cultures have different ideas about beauty or something and that might be a good reason to just show the ridiculous hairstyles and silhouettes so we can stop being so self-centred and sure that there is only one way to be beautiful?

A books series by Judith Tarr addresses the idea of different cultural ideas about beauty that I found to be pretty interesting. Avaryan Rising is a series featuring a demigod creates an empire, and the various dramas of his relationships and the relationships of his children.

The concept Judith Tarr came up with was "canons" of beauty. The emperor and his kids were all very aware that there were different ideas of beauty within the various countries/cultures they ruled over. And Judith Tarr always made a point of each character noting the differences in aesthetics.

Today is stupid day.

I am having a high stress day today. I am frustrated because of my wips, both fiction and not fiction. I am frustrated with having to deal with people in meatspace (blood draw, counseling, mother fucking yearly assessment).

I am having difficulties in real life related to housing. (There is something going on with section 8 and so on.) I have no grocery money and because of a blood draw I had to take, I had to fast and not take my meds. Which means I have a horrible headache and feel kind of pissy. I am also hungry, but also unable to brain enough to get a food. So instead I must whine about my life on tumblr. (I will maybe do more detailed bitching on dreamwidth, as one does.)

He wears a mask because his face is scarred and thinks he has to hide it 'because its so ugly most demons faint upon looking at him' (thats the wife beam)

Shen yuan who's horns are so long and gnarled that they are an exosystem. Plants grow in the dips and cracks. Centipedes hunt the mites that feast on dead chitin. The birds that evolved native to *him* hunt those, and he eats the beasts that are attracted to him like a whalefall attracts scavengers.

Shen yuan who is many legged like a century dragon, because his body has evolved to best suit the abyss and its many challenges.

Binghe will have to sew the wedding robes himself i fear.

Na, na, it can be like the fairy tale where a girl has to marry a Lindworm. (Lindworm wanted a wife, but kept eating the brides. There is a way to avoid getting eaten, and she listens to the instructions, even they sound insane.) Luo Binghe has to flay multiple layers off of Shen Yuan, until he gets down to something more or less husband-shaped. ((IIRC, the ritual the girl was told involved lye baths and whips.))

One fun thing about my town is that about two years ago, our feral rabbit population tripled, and while we mostly had grey rabbits, there were a handful of white and black rabbits as well.

Two years later, it turns out grey rabbits are hard to see on the road, and white rabbits stand out to predators, so now we have a bazillion identical black rabbits roaming the streets like lost souls of the damned
