"you taste like ashes" one of my favorite lines in this insane series ever. this moment will be carved into my gravestone. drusilla tells spike he tastes like ashes before he even knows he's in love with buffy, and one could say that it's in regards to buffy being some equivalent to sunlight, so appealing and warm but undoubtedly damage-inflicting on spike. of course she'll burn him to ash. but spike tells buffy "im drowning in you," which isn't burning, it's the floods. she was going to be a fireman when the floods rolled back. spike is drowning. and then he gets a soul, and THAT burns, and she's burning him up from the inside, and he dies, swallowed in light. his love for buffy does, eventually, turn him to ash.
