someone find a heat map for UFO sightings and put it next to a heat map for areas with high winds and popular camp grounds please
everyone's "well-adjusted" and "mentally healthy" until the "sometimes I wish I'd never been born at all" part of Bohemian Rhapsody comes on
The best "online-ageism" rebuttal I think I've ever seen
Check this out.
...Gotta adapt this for myself to include CompuServe and Fidonet. :)
On this day, 16 July 1862, Black feminist, anti-racist and anti-lynching activist Ida B. Wells was born in Holly Springs, Mississippi. After the lynching murders of three of her friends for the "crime" of setting up a grocery store which competed with a white-owned store she undertook a detailed investigation of lynchings and their causes. Wells' work countered the popular myth that most lynchings were to punish alleged rapists, and showed that instead most were for such "crimes" as failing to pay debts, competing with whites economically or drinking alcohol. She recommended that Black people arm themselves for "protection which the law refuses to give"; she herself bought a pistol after being threatened by white racists. Wells participated in the founding of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), but later distanced herself from the group after becoming dissatisfied with its leadership made up of the small group of either white or Black members of the elite. Instead she founded the Negro Fellowship League, and later the Alpha Suffrage Club in Chicago, which may have been the first Black women's suffrage organisation. Hi, my mother is still in the ICU and we've received $0 in donations since yesterday. We urgently need $465 for her medications; please donate $1 or $5 now or share my post immediately to help save her
Hey all! Mai's family needs urgent help keeping her mother alive after her surgery. She's in the ICU receiving life-saving care but this care comes at a cost. The medical system in Ghazzah has collapsed and the cost of care has skyrocketed to prices that cannot normally be afforded in the strip without outside help. Please if you can, send help to Mai's family.
Their fundraiser was vetted by Mohammed Ayesh and is listed at #392 on our list.
Bro absolutely COOKED with this.
If you ever hear the phrase "fascism is aesthetics as politics," that's what this post is talking about.
It's not about being tough on crime, because the absolute toughest most brutal measure you could take against "crime" as a social problem is to alleviate poverty, and increase access to education, healthcare and social mobility.
It's about performing "tough on crime" as an aesthetic by enacting violence against a prop, i.e. minorities and the impoverished, who are fetishized and objectified to represent "crime." They are brutalized as punishment for crime, but never with the purpose of alleviating the problem of crime.
This is why a lot of conservatives and other right wingers can get straight up angry when you suggest things like reform or social measures to reduce crime. They don't want crime to be reduced, they want an eternal war against "crime" because it provides an arena for the righteous to demonstrate virtue by brutalizing their enemies.
big fan of when you peel back all layers of a character and at the bottom of it there's love
why are they doing this? because they loved someone so much it caused the plot to happen. Grief counts btw
ESPECIALLY a big fan of when this isn't enough to make them a good person
my futile wish is for people to understand that "sex scenes in movies/TV don't have to serve the plot and can genuinely just be for pleasure" and "sex-repulsed people are allowed to complain about how rare it is for media made for adults like them to be something they can enjoy completely" are both true statements. unfortunately society hates both sex and people who don't like sex, so everyone gets far too defensive about any sex or lack thereof in fiction to actually have this conversation
had a fucked up dream i had a book that turned out could never be read again the same as the first time because each reread the characters became incrementally more aware that the events of the book had happened before and they were “reliving” it and i reread enough times that they became self aware, figured out they were in a book, acknowledged me as the reader, and some lost their minds or had existential crises, became violent to other characters or themselves, some begged me to never stop reading or they ceased to exist and others begged me to end it all stop reading and keeping them trapped in the endless loop of torment, and the literal only way to get the book back to its first run was to hand it off to someone else to read for the first time and for some reason i physically couldn’t tell anyone about it so i’d have to just hope whoever i gave it to would only read it once and i could never open the book again to check if they were okay and back to normal because i was terrified of fucking them all up again :(
i'm glad people are finding this fun as a concept and making references to stuff that this reminds them of but i really gotta express how bad of a nightmare this was for me. i had fallen in love with the original story and characters (though on waking i couldn't tell you the details), unintentionally warped their story beyond recognition, and found myself an unwitting god that could not provide mercy for some without doling torment to others. one of the characters started offing themselves every time i started another reread. stress dream doesn't even begin to cover it

ALSO..some more masturbation facts about me. theres a nonsexual scene in a book where a kid gets spanked for some reason. it was set in like the 40s and he was in a boarding school i forget. but i think i either misread the scene . or maybr the author actually did write this and theyre just fucking weird. and i thought the protag got hit (with like a ruler or something). on the penis instead of on the arse. and i remember my 11 year old brain being like. i wonder why i think that would feel good.
and so my first ever "experiment" with masturbation was. slapping my dick with a ruler. and when that felt good. my first ever way of masturbating was. stacking heavy books on my penis. and then hitting the top book. so that the force was distributed down the series of books. into my penis. and of COURSE it didnt work i was punching books into my dick but it laid a strong foundation for a great gooning career . hey everyone PLEASE pretend you didnt read this post
