Dick is so unserious.
1) Gets kidnapped. Looks absolutely furious in his ransom photo, which would be understandable were it not for future context.
2) Becomes Plucky McGee as soon as Bruce shows up. There are guns trained on his goofy ass and heβs flashing the dimples LMAO.
3) The side eye and the βShall we begin?β. Like, okay bucko.
4) Breaks out. Note that there have been no changes to his status since before Bruce showed up, meaning he had the ability to escape whether or not Bruce came.
Conclusion: Not only was Dick fine, Iβm pretty sure this was just an opportunity for Dick to say hi to Bruce and get out of college.
Loser.
βWhy didnβt Dick and Cassie Sandsmark believe Tim about Bruce being alive?β
He didnβt actually give them any evidence for it before running away. Didnβt even try to convince them beyond saying βheβs alive, Iβll prove it.β
Heβd spent the past year trying to resurrect his dead family and friends. After 100+ cloning attempts and almost stealing Lazarus pit water, this just looks like Timβs typical grieving pattern.
Dick, Tim, and Clark personally examined Bruceβs dead body and determined it was his!
Timβs inner monologue in Red Robin 1 shows even he knows heβs driven by desperate hope and compounded grief: βHeβs all I have and he has to be aliveβ¦Please, god, donβt let me be crazy.β
If Tim had turned out to be wrong I honestly believe he still wouldβve gone looking for a way to bring Bruce back. Just like he did with Kon, Bart, Steph, Jack, and Janet.
Red Robin follows so clearly from Timβs grief from losing Jack Drake and everyone else. DCU Halloween Special β09: βOur Fatherβs Sinsβ made this even more obvious by showing Red Robin Tim reflecting on his grief over Jack while heβs searching for Bruce.
Of course his friends and family think heβs grieving! He is! He just also happens to be right. Nobody is completely unjustified here.
I'm a sucker for a character that dooms themselves to be a hero. Chefskiss fr. π
Plus, his costume is so damn boring, c'mon.

one of my coworkers just warned another that if he didn't see Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" right away he'd be "spoiled for sure", which really tickled me considering the story has been around since Ancient Greece
bugs when u pick up a rock
What if you were a foster kid and you finally had a parent who seemed to love you but that didn't take away the fear of being abandoned. What if you figured out you had a talent for something, a real talent, and the first thing you did as soon as you thought you were capable of it was to steal enough money to cover that parent's debts and medical bills, because you know that she loves you just for you but also if you are useful, you will be allowed to stay. What if you work with a crew for the very first time and immediately latch on so tightly to these people who are not even very nice to you yet, not really, that you buy them an office and pull several all-nighters installing fancy screens and making some ridiculous painting of your new boss as an old man and constructing new state-of-the-art thievery toys for them to play with, and they keep saying one more job, maybe two, and if you keep being better and better and more useful and solving problems, maybe they will never stop saying one more job. Maybe they won't leave you.
Squints at Hardison in the Ice Man Job. So you have severe abandonment issues and need to prove to yourself that you don't need anyone, including Sophie, huh? You think if you can do Sophie's job and grift as well as she can, there's no chance the rest of the team is going to leave you too, huh? So you think you need to be able to solve everyone's problems to be useful and therefore to be wanted, huh?

good lird there's perfectionism stemming from self-worth issues in there
in the lighthouse robert pattinson plays a man that has beef with a bird. and then in the boy and the heron he plays a bird-man that has beef with a boy. this leads me to belive his next role will be a man that has beef with a boy who is also a bird. and this is how i know robin is going to be in the batman 2.

I truly believe Bruce is great at comforting people, and y'all will not change my mind. I keep reading fics where they say he doesn't know what to say or to do, that Dick, the other kids or ALFRED (you must be joking) are better than him. But, especially if we are talking about someone suffering from grief, he is very good at comforting people, even children. Especially children even!
Idk, people often explain their opinion with "he only knows his own experience with grief", but actually, his experience is why he is so good. Nobody was there for him the way he needed (Alfred being one of the people to fail him), and he does want to help children so they aren't failed like him, he knows how they feel and so he can help them!
In some comics, he is even seen by others as this specialist of grief, so they go to him to open up about their feelings and get comfort. It's the case of Mr Terrific, Michael Holt, who had never talked to anyone about his late wife, but he went to Batman to open up. Because he knew that, even tho Batman never lost a spouse, he knows enough about grief and pain to understand him in a way noone else will.
And Bruce being great at comforting others is another reason why Dick is insane about him. Because, from the moment they met, Bruce understood him and his pain better than anyone, even tho they were strangers. And he gave Dick everything he wished he had when he went through the same things.
Dick got called pretty again.

It's far too late but I really wish we stopped calling generative AI "AI" because it's just not Artificial Intelligence.
It's like if we called drums "sonic booms" because they make a loud sound.
It's like if we called all carbonation foam "lava" because of baking soda volcanos.
It's like if we called cars "spaceships" because a car salesman once lied about their product being capable of space travel
It's like if we called vitamin supplements "cancer cures" because some people mistakenly believe they cure cancer
i feel these needed to be compiled. feel free to add more genre related posts in the notes if you want
DC/Marvel comic books are unlike any other form of media. Imagine a long-form collaboration by thousands of people spanning nearly a century, always fluid and changing and evolving, shepherding and stewarding corporate IP properties they will never own.
Sometimes, it creates a wondrous mythos. But mostly, itβs like a decades-long argument scribbled on the wall of a dilapidated bathroom stall.
