Honestly the fact that I've only doubled up on notation for one word is shocking akdhdgshks hell yeah, I was trying for that but wasn't putting a huge amount of effort into checking. Absolutely, Joey and Geordi's Eridian names both have the same name-ending diminutive chords, that is canon now.
That last one, π΅πΆπ΅, means "overprotective" or, probably connotatively more accurate, "overbearing" or "helicopter parent-like"! And the word in "freeze up like a πΆπ΅ in a storm" is a small flying creature that rarely lands except for when they get disoriented by a loud storm and grab onto a rock face to cling until the winds die down. The idiom is comparable to English's "like a deer in the headlights"!

The thing about sharing a spaceship with a guy in a hamster ball is you end up doing the grunt work. So here we are, a crazy crew of two en route to an alien planet, and I am once again hanging off the side of the dang ship. At least this time Iβm securely fastened and not watching any approaching doom. Two hours ago we plowed through a molecular dust cloud and alarms went off, thankfully not of the βdeath imminentβ variety. More of a βa bunch of exterior stuff just got scratched up like an angry cat went after it.β I am getting better at the piloting thing, which is not to say I am good. But I did get us safely slowed down and prepped for repairs. Hence my current hanging-off-the-ship situation: I am repairing the dings with an Eridian blowtorch, xenonite patches, and more blood, sweat and tears than Iβd hoped to part with today.
βWish I could help Grace,β says Rockyβs voice in my headset.
Itβs slow going. I have never been accused of being nimble even without the lumbering Orlan. βWish you could too, Rock. Youβd be five times faster than my primitive human hands can manage. Iβm giving this my whole ass and it looks half-assed at best.β

I attended my first academic confererence in YEARS a few weeks ago and forgot how punny they were and so I think during the trip to Erid they would all (1) start holding conferences to convey otherwise common bebriefs about running the ship and (2) dress up in silly clothes while doing it

I can't articulate how utterly inhumane it is that we've not only normalized, but valorized, sleep deprivation. We treat it like an achievement.
Sleep deprivation increases your risk for a myriad of serious illnesses like heart disease, kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke.
And that's just to name a few.
Some of the most important cellular work we do all day happens while we're sleeping. When we don't get enough quality sleep and rest, our cells literally can't effectively repair themselves.
It literally damages every system in our bodies.
Capitalism lies.
Getting enough sleep is actually one of the most meaningfully "productive" things we can do.
