they don't tell you this but you can actually watch a movie
I love everybody. I have so much in my heart. I dont like a lot of people but I love eveybkdy
if someone doesn’t do something perverted with me soon i think im gonna die
Here are a couple bees I’ve illustrated as part of a commission that I’m working on! 🙂
The green bee is a striped sweat bee of the Agapostemon genus & the black bee is a leaf cutter bee within the Megachile genus!
It’s always a treat to see our native pollinators, including bees of either of these genera, out in the world. Do you have a favorite pollinator, insect or otherwise? I plan to do some more pollinator illustrations, so let me know if there is a particular species you’d like to see!

The Not-So-Golden Record from chapter 10 of Terra's Grace is living in my head rent-free. As a whole concept. I kept coming back today to the way that carving is *not* a fast medium to write in, and it would be a pretty slow, meditative activity to sit with as you record information just in case. *Just in case* everything goes wrong. *Just in case* the two of you on this ship become the furthest either of your peoples ever reach and a last testament to everything they've done to anyone who comes after. As much as it would ultimately be meditative and really centered on love for their planets and what their people have accomplished, I kept thinking about how the heck that got started, given that it'd necessitate sitting down and *thinking* about that worst case scenario concretely enough to start carving. And as much as I know that USG doesn't strictly share a continuity with Terra's Grace, I sure am thinking about chapter 3 of that, and the fact that Grace actually did have some good initially unrelated reason, there, to be thinking about practicing his carving skills, and decent reason to start doodling on the walls about it, and fair call to be contemplating what he cold carve that would properly symbolize humanity and first contact and himself, and maybe trying out a new carving tool that speeds things up eventually. And I could totally see him stepping back from that, at some point, and realizing only mid-process that this has become an exercise in recording the best of humanity as he sees it.
Anyway, all this to say, yet another detail of yours that I just find SO fascinating and compelling, and I am mentally gnawing on the concept of this being an activity that both Grace and Rocky ended up doing to process their own fears/uncertainty and also their love for the planets they've been gone from for so long that grew directly out of something that was initially focused on care for each other on a personal level. SO so curious about your thoughts on how long/frequently they were both working on this, and how close to Erid they had to be before it felt reasonable to assume they didn't have to, anymore. Just SO poignant as a whole concept. I sure am Contemplating It.
I DIDN'T EVEN THINK ABOUT THE CARVINGS ASPECT. GD. I HAVE TO WRITE A CHAPTER OF UNCONVENTIONAL SOCIAL GROUP ABT THIS NOW ;-;
I mean, it'll be a while, bc I need to focus on finishing TG first. BUT. Yeah. Yeah.
I think they'd go for some days/occasionally weeks without working on the records and then one of them would have an idea to add and then they'd bounce off each other and have a solid 1-3 days where that's ALL they worked on before taking a break again. And I think they were adding stuff up until the final month or so before they got to Erid, mostly out of habit at that point.
My other thoughts, I shall save for that eventual full chapter. Ough. Now I'm thinking abt it SO much ;-; weeps <3
the funnest part of reading books is telling people the plot like its hot gossip
I forget whether it comes up in the book or not, does rocky know that grace didn't go on the hail mary willingly?
It never comes up in the book, no! And there's no indication that Grace ever told him in the ~20 years before the book epilogue, either.
And if you're asking about The Chronicles of Terra's Grace, I have indeed stuck with that assumption. Grace has never told Rocky (or anybody) that he was forced onto the ship.
The key to writing good fanfiction is to harbor a deeply humiliating desire, and the trick there is that even pretty basic and societally-accepted desires like “being held” and “being wanted” CAN and WILL be humiliating if they’re intense enough. Become so estranged from human connection that the idea of someone playing with your hair fills you with yearning so deep you feel like you’re going to throw up and you will write some banger fanfiction. It might have some other consequences too but idrk about that.
Maybe I can just stare at the dnd prep document for long enough and tonight's session will fully materialize

The Oregon Zoo has released more than 1,300 Oregon silverspot caterpillars to coastal habitats in a major effort to bolster the threatened b
This is really exciting news from my corner of the world! The Oregon silverspot (Speyeria zerene hippolyta) is a highly endangered subspecies of the zerene fritillary that is only found in northern California and Oregon, and once ranged in extreme southwestern Washington. It is found in coastal meadows, most of which have either been developed, or closed in by forest due to repression of natural and cultural fires.
The silverspot is an excellent example of how insect herbivores tend to have very limited diets. Plants don't want to be eaten, so they produce chemicals that deter and poison herbivores that eat them. It takes a long time and many generations for an animal species to develop a tolerance for these chemicals, so insect herbivores usually only manage to overcome a small number of toxins. Some species, like the silverspot caterpillar, can only eat the leaves of a single species of native plant, and if that plant disappears, so does the insect.
This also illustrates that "save the pollinators" isn't as simple as planting some flowers for adult butterflies and moths. You have to also consider what the caterpillars will eat, and around here planting a bunch if butterfly bush or other non-native species isn't going to cut it. If you aren't feeding the caterpillars, you certainly aren't going to get the butterflies.
Why preserve a single species that is so dependent on one other species? Well, for one thing, every species deserves to exist regardless of whether we consider them to be useful to us or not. Moreover, when we preserve habitat for these isolated species, we also preserve habitat for many others who live in the same place. And we ultimately know very little about the intricate connections species have among each other; when we lose a single species, we have no idea how far-reaching the negative impacts will be across the entire ecosystem.
So while it may seem like a waste of resources to breed and reintroduce the caterpillars of one butterfly species, the potential benefits across the board are more than worth it.

The power of fanfic will really have you doing stuff like listening to the entirety of Abbey Road on your commute home and tearing up over the lyrics of Octopus’s Garden, of all things.
(So, Chapter 11 of Terra’s Grace, huh?)
