I'm going to disappoint, but "when you go" isn't about death. It's from the lyrics of the song Darkness Before Dawn by Lolita KompleX, which is about how being physically separated (not against your will) from someone, and feeling like you left everything with them, because they are your home, your heart, and your light, and you must go back to them again from time to time and everything is alright when you are together. Of course, this song is probably meant to be romantic, but to me, it's peak Dick and Bruce. The title is also not really cemented, as it used to be One day, I'll be your hero, which is the title of a Rhapsody song that I also associate with them.
Anyway, you get it, it's about Dick and how normal he is about Bruce. It's set not long after Dick moves to Bludhaven, which, in my canon, is a choice Dick makes after Tim becomes Robin so he can be independent but also close enough in case Bruce's grief overtake him again (of course, he doesn't tell Bruce).
This is also me rewriting the introduction of the Court of Owls, because I don't like how, in the comics, this secret group is so "in our face", with assassination attempts in broad daylights and messages left on dead bodies. No, instead, the Court of Owls is cunning and doesn't left anything behind, the bodies of their ennemies easily labelled as suicide. And their next target is Bruce Wayne, because he is such a pain in the ass for the elite.
Dick is also a target, but to become a Talon, but for that, they are trying to get him to fall in love in one of their younger member, get fiancĂŠ with her, so that when he "dies", they get all of the Wayne fortune, because Bruce will die first and Dick is the heir of all his fortune (with Jason dead and Tim too new for Bruce having changed his will yet). I also want to change how Talons works a bit to make it more like how zombies work. Attention, when I talk about zombies, I'm speaking about the actual african folklore and not the whitewashed mainstream bs. Zombies are humans who are given a cocktail of drugs by an evil sorcerer. This cocktail makes them appear dead at first, leading to their family to bury them. Then, the sorcerer digs them up, and they become their slaves. I also want the Court of Owls to be white supremacist af, and not in a subtle way (Dick, as a romani, is never seen as one of them, even tho he is the heir of the richest man in town)
Dick slowly discovers this whole circus, and, at first, he is doing this on his own because he still has this need to prove himself to Bruce. But, the Court is a step ahead, and they poison Bruce. This doesn't make Dick accept that he needs help, it just makes him more determine to solve this on his own. He saves Bruce, but while the man is in the hospital, he goes after the Court. In the end, Batman does come in to save him, Dick willing to die once he knows Bruce is safe.
