reading christopher eccleston interviews where he talks about wanting to be androgynous but always getting macho parts makes me understand why i keep getting butch dyke vibes off of the ninth doctor. don’t worry ms doctor i saw your leather jacket

This very production of Orpheus & Eurydice is now available to stream, free, for the month of June.
As this post is going gangbusters, and it's Pride, I'd like to point out that there's four days left to watch another free Orpheus & Eurydice, this time an immersive production which begins with us all as guests at their queer wedding. (You'll need knowledge of French or German to get it all, but if you know the story you'll be good)
I wish people Did Stuff more often in modern fantasy photography. It feels like 99.99% of the time the models are just standing there looking pretty with their arms slightly raised and maybe holding a sword, which is all well and good individually, but so bland and monotonous when there isn't anything else. I wanna see elves and fairies that have jobs and hobbies and are doing things. Like spinning yarn or weighing seeds to sell to a customer or playing chess or darning socks or baking or gossiping while knitting. I wanna pose as a fairy janitor with a leaf apron, and a mop bucket made of a walnut shell. Also the fairy shopkeeper who's weighing the aforementioned seeds should have sleeve garters.
This is not an internet choice question that is super relevant to the way I engage with fiction personally but notably this poll presupposes that “going canon” cannot include What Happened to Queliot. There are ways in which the monkey paw can curl that many aren’t aware of unless they were in a specific place in 2019

They DID that!!!
It took me about 15 seconds in to realize what was happening in this vid, but the second I did, I legit came. This is… I got chills and got so much validation for my theories about tap and pretty much any genre of music here…
Tap is probably one of the dance styles that gets the least amount of credit four how badass it is
Holy hell-
Sorry I don’t get it?
They’re tap dancing, a kind of dancing typically associated with being old-fashioned and kind of silly. Personally, even tap dancing to old music is awesome in my eyes, but this is on a totally new and exciting level
The thing about tap is that it’s so often seen as a fancy, old-fashioned dainty dance that only posh (and generally white) people do in tuxedos but it didn’t used to be the case.
Way back in the early days, it was where black performers in Vaudeville were legendary for it in Jazz and Jive routines. At about 1:37, this is where the Nicholas brothers go off.
It’s such an expressive and joyful kind of dance and matches so well with hip hop beats and rhythm, which is why the modern reworking of it is so awesome.
Im sure a lot of people also watch the op video and they assume that “clap” sound is part of the music just because a LOT of modern music samples that sound and in some music it is just the sound of hands clapping, but no that is a sound being made by all their shoes at once.
one of my favorite syncopated ladies routines
Has the world forgotten Gregory Hines?
I am gritting my teeth at the mere suggestion that tap is primarily associated with dainty white people.
Tap is a distinctive American art form that comes from a blending of African dance traditions with Irish dance traditions. It was developed by Black and white dancers and came up alongside and deeply entwined with jazz.
Certainly the tap that ends up in musical theater often seems old-fashioned and white but that’s a musical theater issue, not a tap issue. That is only one small part of tap, which continues to have a strong African-American tradition.
The Nicholas Brothers, above, are in a clip from the film Stormy Weather, which has an almost entirely African-American cast. Some of the other scenes in the film include Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, one of the greatest tap artists of all time. He was very well-known generally and was in quite a few Shirley Temple movies in his day. (Shirley Temple, herself, was a tap dancer – which I’ll be real is probably contributing to people thinking it’s old-fashioned and white, because it’s easy to forget the Black man dancing alongside her, I guess.)
Here’s Bill Robinson with Cab Calloway in Stormy Weather – he’s performing a variation of his famous “stair dance” in parts of this clip:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VY3fbvBRiaM
Here’s probably the most widely famous version of the “stair dance”, from The Little Colonel:
There’ve been a lot of white tap dancers through the years – see, for example, everyone’s favorite clip of two men torturing a speech therapist:
… but a lot of its most famous practitioners have been Black and it’s weird to me that people don’t know that.
Have a scene from Tap (1989).
A lot of talent happening here! Plus I always have to stop everything and watch the Nicholas Brothers near defy gravity in the stormy weather routine because it’s just as fantastic every single time! 🌟
this speaking as a cis person. Nothing brings me more joy seeing people find gender euphoria in becoming a mediocre representation of humanity. And I mean that so genuinely. Local boy finds joy and fulfillment wearing a cargo shorts and t-shirt combo. Local girl has transitioned to look like someone's disheveled aunt, has never been happier. Local person experiences gender euphoria rocking the world's worst bowl-cut. Without a scap of irony, this shit makes me see the wonder and whimsy in just, being a human. An average, person going through their day-to-day, is a wondrous thing? That's amazing. And heteronormativity has stripped these experiences of their joy. Like you're right, wearing a basic girlypop skirt should make my heart sing. Why not? Why are these expressions lesser because they're normal? All this to say. Shoutout to all the basic bitches out there. Yes that polo shirt does make you look like a divorced golfer dad. Yes, that too is kind of a slay, now that I think of it.
when people are like “he’s not even attractive you could find a guy that looks like him at any gas station” i’m like….. well you see there’s beauty everywhere actually
You can also find a sunset at a gas station

It's warm... it's fashionable.... it's hot coo-ture!
i made a the pigeon sweater (by Michelle Tsai) for my friend! i've been wanting to make another top for ages, but I have way too many sweaters already, so when she mentioned seeing a sweater she really wanted it was like serendipity 🕊️
i'm so psyched with how this turned out; she lives over a thousand miles from me so i had nothing but some measurements, math, and a lot of faith that this would fit properly (and it does!! perfectly!!)
"You have improved," the swordmaster said.
"Thanks to my new sword," said the student.
The swordmaster studied the blade and frowned. "This is enchanted?"
"You know about cursed swords that whisper that you should kill?"
"Yes?"
"This tells me I'm loved and valid."
"Ah. Well. It's not wrong."
me (decorated in bloody runes): man why did we ever stop worshipping golden idols this shit rules
severed bull’s head i carry with me for advice: if you mix sulfur, charcoal, and saltpeter together you will become a powerful sorcerer
I think part of getting better is complete ego death. Like you’re not above setting a timer for 5 minutes and focusing on a task. You’re not above doing a very simple 3 minute workout to start. You’re not above reading for 10 minutes a day when you first get out of your reading slump, even if you used to read for hours. You’re not above starting slow and then building up to where you want to be/where you once were. What you are above is total inertia. Doing something really is better than doing nothing. Radically accept where you are, radically accept your limits, and go from there. Don’t let your ego get in the way.
when i was at walgreens (at 3 in the morning which explains all of this) the cashier was talking to her coworker about how shed rather be a werewolf than a vampire because vampires are condemned to hell but werewolves arent and then she asked me what i thought and i said vampire because im already condemned to hell and she said in the nicest tone of voice “i dont think anybody is condemned to hell….” paused, stared at me for a few moments, and added on “…not even gay people”
Happy pride month to the filthiest most brutal read I’ve ever been given in my life

Finally bought some dye and have been having so much fun with optical color mixing. I decided to start with cmyk primaries to get some vibrant color options.
So far I've only mixed up the main batch of colors, but I'll split them up and create a palatte of tints and shades once I have access to a scale again.
I don't have any fancy tools and have been blending the fiber by hand, so it's probably best I have a forced break for the sake of my fingers. Once I'm done I should have a very useful set of 57 2g swatches to play with! (Plus 5 more for a set of grayscale swatches)
If I'm still up for it, I might repeat the whole thing with my classic red, yellow, blue primary dye set. For a truly massive set of heather swatches.
In 1993, Tupac visited a school in South Central Los Angeles and performed “Keep Ya Head Up” a cappella for students ❤️
More than 30 years later, the message still hits just as hard.
