Those fics that would be a BEAUTIFUL and very well done character analysis about their character flaw...
...but then the author goes and agrees with the character flaw
Yes, Tenna feels abandoned. No, Spamton shouldn't apologize for Tenna choosing the phone over him and doing nothing for him when he needed it most.
Yes, Tenna would probably be very upset that Spamton attacked and almost killed Kris. Yes, Tenna would probably think that him almost killing Kris and their friends is totally different. No, he isn't right. No, it's not that different in practice because at the end of the day both of them attacked and hurt the Fun Gang. Tenna was desperate and not wanting to die, but Spamton too. And canonically Tenna is seeking validation from King, another character who wanted to kill the Fun Gang. Tenna is no "less bad" than Spamton. Let's stop babyfying a powerful ruler of a world and stripping away all his bad actions just to vilifying a homeless disabled person who has been neglected by everyone.
Yes, Swatch thinks Spamton is a "crooked salesman." Swatch also kicks someone out of his own cafĂŠ who arrived BEFORE HIM, calling him a "hooligan." Swatch calls the ruler who was banning art (music) that wasn't about her, physically abuses her people (plugboys), and ignored a homeless guy who needed medical care (physical and mental) FOR YEARS "kind."
Swatch and the Swatchlings ignored the fact that Spamton would pray for hours and had a religious psychosis. Swatch chose a DELETED piece of art instead of a person like him, a fellow darkner. Swatch sells Spamton's tie with the brand removed for double the price. He's not the biggest victim here just because his feelings were hurt, or somehow that's the same (or even worse) than what he and Queen put Spamton through due to their negligence.
Based on Swatch's behavior throughout the game, he would indeed believe he is the true victim because his feelings were hurt. No, we shouldn't actually think he's the real victim or ignore his (and Queen's too) pattern of lacking compassion for lower class people. Yes, Swatch would probably vilify Spamton, but that's because he's not in the right in this story. It's because he's a huge hypocrite and is supporting a super abusive government. And again, he chose a piece of art over a life like his. And he sells the homeless man's tie. This is very serious and I'm tired of pretending it isn't.
Yes, the Addisons were jealous of Spamton. No, it's not Spamton's fault that they had terrible products. It's not Spamton's fault that they were ashamed to talk to Spamton and apologize to him, so they have to steal Spamton's ideas and offend him when they don't even know he's around. Yes, they may be doing this as a terrible coping mechanism because they are proud and envious cowards. We shouldn't be thinking "aww they miss him! 𼺠poor things", they are cowards who can't be honest and acknowledge that they were terrible friends. Spamton was the victim here, not them.
And no, Spamton isn't wrong or a bad person for not forgiving them. Yes, all those characters mentioned would probably think that if they apologized, Spamton would be obligated to forgive them, as if it were a favor for them to apologize. No, we shouldn't agree with that toxic mentality.
This isn't a dig at any specific fanfic, it's just a pattern I've noticed.
"Yes, you became a puppet, homeless for at least 10 years, had religious psychosis and we all abandoned you... but we feel very bad about it and you hurt our feelings :((( You have hurt feelings and so do we! So we all suffer equally! #CommunismIGuess"
