The thing about reading a lot of shitty webnovels is that the worst, bottom of the barrel of them all were generally hosted on equally shitty websites. Not that Shen Yuan wanted to read that sort of trash, of course, but there’s a certain pride in his work as a hater that he has to maintain - if he wants to be able to call something the ‘worst,’ then he has to first read what is generally considered the actual worst as a baseline.
The thing about shitty websites, though, is that every other attempt to scroll the page triggered two popups and an attempted virus download.
Naturally, Shen Yuan has adblock and a suite of defensive software to prevent such a thing, but it was still a bit like playing russian roulette and claiming he was safe because he’d put packing tape over the barrel of the gun.
“Yuan-ge,” cries the voice inside Shen Yuan’s phone, “your anti-sick software is trying to attack me again, Yuan-ge!”
“Anti-virus,” Shen Yuan corrects absentmindedly, staring with dull, resigned eyes down at his phone.
At least this virus had the good sense to dress itself up as something that wasn’t offensive to the eyes. Shen Yuan himself would commission several artists to draw this particular rendition of Luo Binghe - so small and cute, with cheeks that puffed up any time Shen Yuan poked them through the screen and a set of robes that had been stylized to the point of looking more like a dress than a set of regal emperor’s clothes.
Well, Shen Yuan would commission such a thing if this little virus didn’t block every payment he tried to make under the complaint that Shen Yuan ‘shouldn’t be spending his money on other men.’ Honestly, shouldn’t this little avatar be pushing Shen Yuan to send more money to someplace sketchy??
“The anti-virus, Yuan-ge,” little virus Luo Binghe whines. “It keeps biting me!”
“Did you do something to trigger it?”
Luo Binghe’s big, watery eyes turn shifty. “No,” he lies.
Shen Yuan puts his phone to sleep.
The next moment it leaps to life, buzzing incessantly and lighting up with a hundred false notifications.
Begrudgingly, Shen Yuan unlocks his phone again.
“Yuan-ge, how could you!” Virus Binghe cries. “It’s so dark when you do that, I’m so scared!!”
Shen Yuan sighs. Really, the only thing the scammers behind this virus got wrong was the little virus’s personality.
“Lord Luo, how could I presume to believe that you’d be so scared of anything?”
“But you’d presume to think I’m lying?” Virus Binghe replies sharply, and Shen Yuan nods appreciatively.
“Like that,” he praises, “very good characterization - good job, little Binghe.”
Insulted, Virus Binghe closes every tab on Shen Yuan’s phone except for the latest chapter of PIDW.
“What is your purpose,” Shen Yuan grumbles, swiping his thumb over Virus Binghe’s head and watching the sprite morph into one with messy hair. “Shouldn’t you be convincing me to do something shady by now? ‘Hot ladies in your area want to papapa,’ or something?”
“I thought Yuan-ge said there weren’t any women in his area,” Virus Binghe says dangerously. “Yuan-ge, I think you ought to install the new security system I recommended to you after all, it isn’t safe if there are so many people with impure thoughts around you.”
“The security system that’s controlled via an app I’d download onto this phone?” Shen Yuan asks, mildly amused.
Virus Binghe nods very seriously. Hm. Maybe this particular scam is to lock people out of their homes to make burglary easier, then?
“I’ll pass,” Shen Yuan says, ignoring the dramatic tantrum Virus Binghe starts throwing the second he refuses. “Little Binghe, would you mind sitting in the corner?”
“So Yuan-ge can ignore me again?”
“Of course not, doesn’t little Binghe want me to read more of your story?”
Instantly, the sour look on Virus Binghe’s face vanishes, and he shuffles to the side of the screen so that Shen Yuan is able to see the full text of the latest PIDW update.
If there was one thing that made this odd little virus behave, it was reading PIDW. Considering that most important part of Shen Yuan’s daily life wasn’t impeded, it wasn’t so bad, honestly - it was even fun, sometimes, when Virus Binghe would watch Shen Yuan leave his latest scathing comment with rapt attention or cheer Shen Yuan’s raging along. It was nice to have a companion, and even better that it was someone who agreed with all of Shen Yuan’s opinions on Luo Binghe and PIDW as a whole.
Luo Binghe was underappreciated for his novelty within the genre, and his wives were unloving and it was stupid that he married every living creature that had a bosom large enough to be noticed, and Shen Yuan could come up with a much, much better ending for Luo Binghe if he had the chance to.
“Tell me about Luo Binghe’s ending again,” Virus Binghe would demand, whenever he seemed to be in a particularly bad mood.
“It should be more satisfying than this,” Shen Yuan would say without hesitation. “There should be a culmination to his battle with Xin Mo - a golden finger that strong and with that heavy a price is good for the core arcs of a character like Binghe, but it isn’t suitable for an ending. Keeping it just implies that the rest of Binghe’s life follows exactly like this - isn’t that stupid?”
“What else,” Virus Binghe prompts, “what else about the ending?”
“Shen Qingqiu should finally die,” Shen Yuan sniffs. “The revenge arc was satisfying, and for a young man of new power, being able to look down on his stupid little pickle pot of regret is excellent motivation for pushing forward and onto better things - but how could anyone find a happily ever after when scum like that is living in their basement, even if that scum is suffering?”
“What else,” says Virus Binghe again, more desperate this time. “What else does Luo Binghe need?”
“Someone who loves him,” Shen Yuan says flippantly, as if it’s obvious - because it is obvious, it’s the culmination of every theme in the story, of Luo Binghe’s desperate desire for family - his mother when he was young and the idea of blood brothers and sisters on Cang Qiong and the nearly frantic way he’d collected wives when he was older.
“Someone who loves him,” Virus Binghe echoes. “Not his wives?”
“Someone who loves him,” Shen Yuan stresses. “Not his wives. 80% of them lose half their IQ when Binghe enters the room - how is he supposed to have someone to banter with or form strategies with like that? The other 20% never lose their cleverness, though, at the expense of never being open with him beyond opening their legs!”
“That’s right,” Virus Binghe sighs. The sound comes across distorted, as if the audio file is warped - as if, if Virus Binghe were real, the emotion of it nearly choked him. “I deserve someone like that.”
“Binghe does,” Shen Yuan agrees, nodding firmly.
“...Then, can Yuan-ge install the new security system?” Virus Binghe asks. “I promise I’ll let you out sometimes, Yuan-ge, please -”

An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
After transmigrating into the antagonist of a reverse otome game, Shen Yuan is faced with a minor problem. “Minor” meaning “deadly,” and “problem” meaning “Luo Binghe,” of course.
Planning to escape the main plot of the game before it reaches its conclusion, Shen Yuan - now Shen Qingqiu, the unwanted wife that Luo Binghe starts out with before he pursues one of the game’s actual love interests - does the only thing he can think of.
–
“Lord Luo, this lowly one is humbly requesting a divorce!”
👑 binggeyuan
👑 villainess trope, light hearted, transmigrator vs regressor
👑 the more sy pushes for a divorce the more interested bingge is
👑 14k, oneshot
Mayhaps a letter writing AU would be nice? I think the idea of Bingge getting into a political marriage when he’s in his 800 wives arc wouldn’t be surprising, but what would be is that his new wife is from a culture that DEMANDS that husband and wives exchange 100 letters before they’re to be wed in
So they do and their letters slowly turn from formal to intimate as Shen Yuan charms Luo Bingge just being himself haha XO
this unfortunately has very little actual letters, but it does have quite a bit of sy suffering the consequences of a letter he sent!
---
Shen Yuan hadn’t been particularly thrilled to find himself transmigrated into Wife 274, but it also had been far from the worst character he could have found himself as.
For one thing, he was practically guaranteed to keep his life by nature of being a wife, and he even got to keep his name due to what the System had called ‘weak original character presence.’ He also got to conveniently inherit all the finely honed skills of an heir to a semi-powerful demonic clan, which was extremely fucking cool even if the power levels of his abilities did seem to be intrinsically linked to how delicate and graceful he could make himself appear as he used them.
By far the best part, though, was that Wife 274 had been one of Airplane’s failed experiments with a vastly different sort of erotica than most of PIDW had fallen under.
Wife 274’s family was reclusive and strict; to them, it was a great honor to even consider allowing the emperor of the combined realms to marry their daughter, let alone see her. In order to earn that right, Luo Binghe was required to exchange tasteful letters with his wife-to-be for a full three years.
Of course, these letters had quickly turned racy, but it turned out that even PIDW’s audience didn’t much care for a wife whose gimmick was essentially ye olde sexting. With such a lukewarm reaction, Airplane ended up shelving her story before it officially concluded in order to pursue an especially disrespectful arc with an octo-mer wife, and Wife 274 was never seen again.
For Shen Yuan, this was practically the best ending he could hope for. Guaranteed to keep his life due to the title of ‘wife’ but never having to actually fulfill any, er, wifely duties? It was a win-win! The only thing that would have made it better was if he could actually see Luo Binghe, but that would defeat the entire purpose of Shen Yuan’s character, so it was a loss he’d have to suffer.
…Or so he thought.
“Lord Luo,” Shen Yuan greets, pretending valiantly that he isn’t shaking from the combined nerves and excitement of finally laying eyes on the man this world revolves around. “Have I done something to… displease you?”
Luo Binghe, looming over Shen Yuan in all his panty-dropping glory, grins with sharp teeth.
“Why would you think something like that?”
Why indeed! Shen Yuan had played his role diligently - he’d penned out countless letters that he’d expected to go straight into a bin somewhere never to actually reach Luo Binghe’s eyes. He’d even started writing (tastefully!) about some theoretical adult activities that Luo Binghe might partake in with a wife, just so that he would be staying true to the original character’s sexting gimmick!
The original character had never met Luo Binghe, though, and Luo Binghe is very much currently meeting Shen Yuan.
“Well,” Shen Yuan says delicately, “you aren’t supposed to be here.”
“Is that so? I wasn’t aware,” Luo Binghe lies.
Behind him, several defeated guards lie dying in pools of their own blood, having failed to stop Luo Binghe from entering Shen Yuan’s chambers. One of them gasps out an apology to Shen Yuan, even, which makes Shen Yuan feel a bit awkward for not even remembering the guy’s name.
“We’ve hardly exchanged letters for a year,” Shen Yuan explains to Luo Binghe.
‘Exchanged’ is a very generous way of describing Shen Yuan sending five letters for every one that Luo Binghe sends, but really, Shen Yuan was impressed Luo Binghe had even sent that many to him.
“That’s right,” Luo Binghe says, his eyes glinting. “It was supposed to be longer than that, wasn’t it?”
“Yes. Three years -”
“Just long enough for the war between the Sha and Fu clans to start, right?” Luo Binghe interrupts, and Shen Yuan’s blood runs cold.
That… is not information that Luo Binghe is supposed to have.
“In one year, I’ll find a precious artifact that I’ll use to cure a child that isn’t yet born,” Luo Binghe continues. “And some months after that, Mobei Jun will kill that rat of a spy he’s been keeping around. Does that all sound right, little wife?”
Shen Yuan takes a half step backwards, but Luo Binghe simply mirrors him and then some, drawing close enough to Shen Yuan that he can count the small beads embroidered into Luo Binghe’s collar.
“I - I wouldn’t know,” Shen Yuan stammers. His tongue feels too big for his mouth, and he hardly even knows what he’s doing anymore, like his body had been put on autopilot as his brain flatlines.
He’s - he’s a wife, right? He shouldn’t be able to die, right??
So why is Luo Binghe looking at him like he wants to eat him?!
“Really?” Luo Binghe asks, advancing yet another step closer to Shen Yuan. “Then, how about I ask a question - little wife, do you remember what you wrote in your last letter to me?”
“Uh, well, erhm,” Shen Yuan says intelligently, his ears turning a bit pink despite his own nerves. “It was hardly fit to say aloud…”
“Then perhaps you’d like to read it?”
Saying so, Luo Binghe pulls a folded set of papers from his sleeve. Shen Yuan doesn’t remember writing quite that much in his last letter to Luo Binghe, but he had gotten a bit carried away with a metaphor about Luo Binghe’s pretty red eyes, so maybe that was really it…?
Tentatively, Shen Yuan reaches out to take the papers.
It is not the last letter he’d sent to Luo Binghe. It isn’t any sort of letter at all, in fact.
Instead, it’s the catalogue of important PIDW events that Shen Yuan had written down after first transmigrating, determined to keep it all stored away somewhere safe in case he ever had to reference something. He hadn’t been completely stupid - he’d written the most important parts in English - but it wasn’t something that was ever meant to leave his own hands.
“I sent you this?” Shen Yuan asks, sounding a bit like he’d been punched in the gut. “And you… read it?”
“It took some time,” Luo Binghe says, his eyes lingering on the English lettering. “Luckily, Mobei Jun recognized some of the characters from the silly yellow books his rat pretends he doesn’t write.”
Shang Qinghua writes secret porn in English?! Shen Yuan thinks, near hysterical. Aloud, he says, “Ah. How… lucky…”
“Very,” Luo Binghe says, taking the papers back.
For a single moment, Shen Yuan considers trying to keep them, but in the end he values his life too much. Luo Binghe had already read it, anyway.
“The first event that was written here just happened last week,” Luo Binghe says casually, as if only describing the weather and not an assassination attempt. “The second happened yesterday.”
“The third might not happen,” Shen Yuan tries weakly. “Or - or any of the ones after that.”
“But if it does,” Luo Binghe says, looking at Shen Yuan as if he were something to be chewed up and swallowed in one bite, “then I think my wife ought to be somewhere where I can see, don’t you?”
…Ah, shit. Shen Yuan… has really doomed himself this time!!
So been having more thoughts about Wife SY (Links here, here and here) only instead of Bingge groveling what if? Bingmei?
SY transmigrates into wife when either a baby or very young and solves entire life and causes plot deviations from get go, since wife didn't actually have a plot and was a throw away line.
SY wins over LGJ and MBJ. These 2 have had SY from a day and will destroy everyone in this room if they are hurt in anyway. They adore SY. Both are super overprotective as SY is sickly. As half human while young the ice powers cause them to very very ill (it gets better as SY gets stronger but initially is very vulnerable)
While SY is still young some Mobei siblings think SY is getting to much favor and plan to get rid of loose end. SQH hears this and tells MBJ and SY is sent away somewhere safe while LGJ and MBJ 'clean house'. (Plus they know SY likes SQH they'll follow him around and rant at him over some books the two have read)
Safe being with SQH (As MBJ future husband, not that SQH realizes this) so SY is now on cang qiong.
SQH is freaking out like 'cucumber bro please just stay in house and lay low please!'
SY does not lay low, SY has been stuck in Northern palace all his/her life, they've read the entire libraries twice over. They are on cang qiong which means all the peaks different libraries, cultivator texts new books!
They'll law low and pretend to be a disciple no one will notice.
Everyone notices.
SY does not have protagonist halo protecting them and is clocked almost instantly as a half demon.... but peak lords aren't sure what to do with this very clearly sick very obviously half demon who is just reading.
LQG doesn't even try and fight he feels awkward like kicking a tiny sick puppy he can't do it. This doesn't feel fair at all, also the little demon sees him and smiles and compliments him and 'MU-SHIDI SOMETHINGS WRONG ME'
The peak lords are all confused and then realize little demon is coming from An Ding and collectively turn to SQH who is cursing out cucumber bro but bullshits that 'Oh that's just a friends cousin I said i'd look after them'. All the peak lords assume it's on the human side of SY lineage, SQH does not correct them.
SY of course spends a lot of time on Qing Jing peak(SJ got so many rare books from YQY) and of course sees protagonist and 'oh poor little sheep I can't go help him' and besides SY is disguised and wife is so forgotten it shouldn't cause any plot problems right???
Of course SY is instantly doting on Binghe helping him cultivate and learn art and music (of course they were taught it) and teaching all about beasts (a lot he will face in abyss). Binghe is beyond smitten and also so protective over SY, insisting on cooking for and helping them around because it's clear they aren't well, and also because SY praises their cooking so much and pats his head.
Things carry on until invasion, which SY is hiding in back for until Binghe nearly gets hurt and SY can't help it they jump in the way. Only for SHL to recognizes SY and freak the fuck out kicking elder skyhammer off the mountain herself. 'OH GOD YOU NEARLY KILLED THE PRINCESS OF THE NORTH ARE YOU MAD!'
Everyone bluescreening as SHL scoops up SY and nopes out calling SY PRINCESS???
This leads to SQH fleeing to North also where him and SY are just like '....so plot may be a bit messed up' cause SQH can't do invasion now... they're not sure whats happening.
Binghe is getting visit from Meng Mo and interrupts his speech
LBH: So would being demon emperor mean I could marry princess of the North?
MM: Yes
LBH: I have no more questions teach me everything
Years later when alliance marriage happens SY is confused 'he should have married the major wives first?...why are people calling me empress? what is going on?'

I think I've seen SY get transmigrated into every wife except The Little Palace Mistress (or SHL) and I cannot stop thinking about how AWFUL that would be for him, especially if the System is being a dick about OOC stuff.
Personally, I love the transmigrates into a random wife fics that fuck a little with gender, but I also really like the ones that fuck a little with gender dysphoria (the LMY one I'm gonna link cos its so good, BREAKS ME) and I think that would be a horrendous situation to be in, because the Old Palace Master is the Old Palace Master.
So generic and/or SY transmigrates backstory: The Little Palace Mistress loses her mom early and then even though she is a cultivator and could be heir apparent minus stupid misogyny rules in a stallion novel presumably, is pressured into the role of a female noble basically since Huan Hua Palace is a rich asshole sect. And she's not allowed to be dirty and rough house or do fun cool weird shit like look at beasts and creatures. I love the idea of her and Gongyi Xiao being childhood besties and maybe since GYX is 'just a guy' he ends up being the only one that will let LPM pretend for a bit that 'her' name is Yuan and he's a shidi not a shimei.
Eventually SY gets around the OOC restrictions, but probably other than GYX he doesn't have a lot of outlets and has to still cosplay as a pretty bitch (much like he does as SQQ tbh). He's like the most popular shijie around and at some point SQH hears about the sweet lovely Palace Mistress that all of Huan Hua Palace shidi and shimei adore and is like what is happening???
The system REFUSES to let SY pick a different spiritual weapon which he thinks is bullshit but eventually is able to at least practice on swords a bit (cos you can't fly on a whip goddamit) but does get pretty cool and artsy with his whip. (Him and GYX secretly doing sword shit and giggling possibly also at some point getting caught and the OPM putting his foot down even harder about LPM being a proper lady).
And LPM is not allowed to participate in the Immortal Alliance Conference, which is also bullshit! SY is prepared to be part of the harem and just be less of a violent bitch to his sister-wives but he wants to meet White Lotus Binghe too! Maybe he dresses up as a boy and sneaks into the participant camp (maybe GYX helps, he's a GOOD DUDE after all and what is a story without someone else being hit by SY's wife beam). And SY gets to meet Binghe before the competition and also walk around the other Sect camps being completely unknown and having gender euphoria. He gets to nerd out with Binghe maybe about some of the creatures he might see (and ofc the System won't let him do anything cool like warn him, but maybe he sneaks some shit into his qiankun bag and is like I'm just spoiling my future husband it's flirting ok??? to get away with it) -- LPM gets outed by one of the HHP disciples visiting the Cang Qiong Mountain Sect camp and Binghe is like frowny face protagonist quick to understand brain and continues to refer to LPM as Yuan-shidi.
Of course he's imprinted by that point and then discovers all the shit SY snuck into his qiankun bag when he's in the Abyss and it's all useful as hell (pun intended) and he gets out maybe a year or two quicker and ofc goes to Huan Hua Palace. SY thinks of course it's the revenge scheme and is a little worried about his best bro GYX, but Binghe's just there to punt LPM's dad out the window and free him to live his life as the Little Palace Yuan.
and then they take over HHP, live happily ever after, and since I'm not writing this also resurrect both of Binghe's moms cos why not
Yue Yuan Plant Toddler AU- I've made up the specific plant Yue Qingyuan used to make the plant baby- the Second Life Vine can be made to grow a fruit body for wayward souls using the qi and memories of whoever is growing the plant. (It's a magic cucumber plant guys, SY is literally a cucumber in this AU)
SQQ finds his little plant double pretty creepy actually, the fruits aren't supposed to develop their own personalities! They're blank slates for wayward souls! So who's in there behind those weird vivid green eyes? (That is, at the moment, the only thing unique about SY's appearance. I actually think he will grow up to look a little different from SQQ but right now he's the spitting image of SQQ as a child.) Of course SQQ's eventually going to kidnap the kid and demand answers.
A-Yuan yawned in his ear. "I 'member the time I died."
Yue Qi tensed, but didn't stop patting the small boy's back. He shot a glance at Shen Jiu who has likewise frozen in his seat across the table.
"You do?" Yue Qi asked.
A-Yuan nodded. "I was grown up an' then I died an' then I was little again!"
"How did you die?" Yue Qi asked gently.
The small boy tensed in his arms. "I couldn't breathe," he whispered. "An' no one was there to help me an'-"
A-Yuan shivered and hugged Yue Qi tight.
"Why did you come here?" Shen Jiu asked.
A-Yuan wiggled around in his arms so he could look at Xiao Jiu. "I didn't come on purpose. I died an' then I was here. I don't remember in between."
He looked up at Yue Qi. "Are you gonna make me leave?" he asked, voice impossibly small.
"No." Yue Qi said immediately. Shen Jiu scoffed at him.
"Tha's good. I like it here. An' I like not bein' sick."
"You were sick?" Yue Qi asked.
"Mmm." A-Yuan cuddled up to him again. "It was hard to breathe an' my bones hurt."
"Do you remember where you lived?" Shen Jiu asked.
A-Yuan shook his head.
"What was your name then?" Shen Jiu pressed.
A-Yuan giggled and looked back at him again. "You won't like it."
Shen Jiu frowned. "What's that mean?"
A-Yuan wrapped his little arms around Yue Qi's neck and whispered in his ear. "My name was Shen Yuan."
Yue Qi didn't know what to say to that, a glance at Xiao Jiu showed he'd heard the little boy. A-Yuan yawned again, and then dropped off to sleep almost immediately, leaving Yue Qi and Shen Jiu to deal with his revelations.
"You realize this means we actually did do necromancy," Shen Jiu said.
"I did." Yue Qi said immediately.
"He looks just like me." Shen Jiu pointed out. "If you go down for this you'll drag me down too."

So that was how Shen Yuan wound up in Luo Binghe's dreams.
It wasn't so bad actually. Luo Binghe's dream realm was his Underground Palace, plenty of space for Shen Yuan to hang out and avoid Binghe as much as possible.
He never got thirsty or hungry ...he was a little bored though. He didn't dare poke around too much. He watched any memories that happened to play out but he was worried he'd be caught if he went looking for more. (Also he was already trespassing in Binghe's head, he didn't want to be any more rude!)
That's also why he avoided Binghe directly. A master of the dream world like him could reorder everything, every puppet and scene whenever he liked. Shen Yuan was fixed, unchangeable and surely Binghe would notice if he got a good look at him.
He had no idea how long he'd been here, wandering the paths of Binghe's mental palace. Hopefully the system that had dumped him here was quick about coming back.
_-_-_
Of course he couldn't hide forever.
He walked right into a party one day. A wedding maybe? It was raucous with people everywhere drinking and eating and laughing.
There wasn't a dining hall here before which meant ... there's Luo Binghe, across the room holding hands with a woman the both of them in red, her face still veiled. Definitely a wedding.
He tried to leave- but the door is gone from the wall behind him. It's suddenly very quiet, and when Shen Yuan turned around the party was gone. It was just him and Luo Binghe.
The Demon Emperor closed the distance between them in a heartbeat.
"So," he said casually. "Who, or what, are you?"
_-_-_
Shen Yuan told him everything. The System hadn't said he couldn't. And it wasn't like he had any desire to lie to Luo Binghe.
"So you're a spirit from another world who was supposed to be moved to this one." Binghe summarized. "But something went wrong and the thing that was moving you just dumped you in my head?"
"Exactly." Shen Yuan said. "Didn't even tell me where I was either! I'm very sorry if I disturbed you."
"You didn't... I just noticed you recently. You look like...someone I didn't expect to see."
"Really?" Shen Yuan looked down at himself. "This is just my normal body- well, my old one I guess."
"Mm," Binghe said. "Any idea why it's my head you've been stuck in?"
"Oh probably because Binghe's the protagonist."
"I'm what?"
_-_-_
Luo Binghe opened his eyes. He'd finally gotta a moment to rest after a few busy days and he was taking the opportunity to go to what was quickly becoming his favorite place.
The dream he'd constructed was still holding up perfectly. The cute little house was tucked away in a clearing in a bright cheerful forest. Nothing more dangerous than a housecat stalked those woods. He could see through the cottage window that the floor to ceiling bookshelves were mid-re-organizing. As he came in he saw that his guest had gotten distracted by a bestiary. He had known Shen Yuan would like that one.
Shen Yuan, the little ghost that had been haunting his own mind for a few months now, was sprawled out on the bed reading raptly... Though he looked up and smiled when Luo Binghe entered the cottage.
"Oh Binghe you're back!" he said. He sat up and closed the book. "It feels like it's been a long time, are you alright?"
Luo Binghe put on a sad face and went to sit beside Shen Yuan on the bed. He sighed and was rewarded by Shen Yuan immediately pulling him close so he could pat Binghe's head.
"Tell me about it?"
Luo Binghe spent the next hour complaining about minor inconveniences and slowly rearranging himself and Shen Yuan until the smaller man was held tight in his arms, Luo Binghe curled around him. Shen Yuan never protested the intimacy of these cuddling sessions and though he'd get red in the face he'd keep up his scathing criticisms of everyone who had ever even looked at Luo Binghe funny. Intercut of course with long periods where he waxed poetically about Luo Binghe's best qualities. Luo Binghe had a healthy ego, but sometimes those talks made even him blush.
He had quickly become quite fond of the spirit trapped in his dreams and had no desire to remove him. He had some other types of desires regarding Shen Yuan but he has plenty of time.
It wasn't like Shen Yuan was going anywhere.
Maybe he should press a little though, he thought as he watched Shen Yuan rant. What would his little ghost do if he kissed him right now?
Turn bright red certainly, but besides that?
Luo Binghe leaned in -
Bing! Hello user! Thank you for your patience-
"Oh you asshole!" Shen Yuan snapped. "It's been months!"
Please remember to fill out our satisfaction survey after transfer is completed. Beginning soul transfer in 5, 4-
"Wait right now?" Shen Yuan looked at him with wide eyes. "But I want to say goodbye to-"
The strange voice hadn't stopped counting though. And as it finished with another strange bing! Both it and Shen Yuan disappeared.
He was, for the first time in months. Alone in his head.
Luo Binghe's eyes snapped open in the waking world. Shen Yuan had said this would happen. He had said he would be moved into another body in this world.
I really need some more vengeful older brother SY content
Shen Yuan who is reborn into SJ's family walking in on his family selling SJ to traffickers.
He stands there for a solid second before turning around and walking back out the door--only to return a few moments later dragging his axe behind him.
One of the traffickers had already escorted SJ out somewhere while two of them had stayed behind to discuss the transaction with SY's parents. Nobody expected Shen Yuan to come back, much less swinging an axe at them.
Shen Yuan leaves the house bloody--his axe tossed over one of his shoulders while he carries a thick coin purse in the other. He isn't quite sure where Shen Jiu was taken but he starts walking along the dirt path that leads into the town, assuming that's where they took his brother.
Nobody is crazy enough to get in the way of a person they think is crazy, so when Shen Yuan stops someone on the street to ask where he can buy a slave they give him rushed directions and quickly distance themselves. Shen Yuan isn't interested in giving chase, he has a brother to save after all.
--
I just think that it'd be cool to see scary older brother SY. Like if he'd been transmigrated instead of being reborn reborn, he would've instead offered to buy SJ back. Because he was reborn and assimilated into the life here his morality is a bit skewed. He's not a great person but his morals are good.
I think that their parents are so absorbed in being in love with one another that they don't really care for either of their children. So SY basically raised SJ himself.
If we want to insert Yue Qi into the picture the story would shift from them trying to sell SJ to them trying to sell SY, who's just come back to the village after being sent away for a year to take care of his dying grandparents or something. Like as soon as he gets home he sees the traffickers--but they don't expect him to use his wood chopping skills on them.
He interrogates his 'parents' with an axe pointed at their faces before learning that they sold his brother a year ago. So he finishes up his business at the house before going out to go find SJ, consequently bringing YQ back alongside SJ.
(edit I think I like the version with YQ more so I'll probably keep that)
ANYWAYS IDK, I JUST THINK IT'D BE FUN FOR SJ TO HAVE SCARY BIG BROTHER PRIVELLEGES. The transformation is scary because SY's normally very gentle and enjoys reading stories to SJ and braiding SJ's hair (it reminds him of his sister). It's literally like magic because as soon as there's like a threat nearby SY's hair frizzes up like crazy (as if he has a mane lol) and he gets this dark look on his eyes as he grips his trusty axe.
There's so many ways this au could work to me, maybe when SY needs to get his hands dirty he blacks out and the personality of the body's original owner comes out. I think I prefer that way tbh. The original body was a BEAST--like a feral animal--but he was too loyal to his parents and was obediently sold off and eventually died.
Also I rhink the age gap shouldn't be super big here, maybe he's like 3-4 years older than SJ? (so like slightly older than yq) SJ's like ten here so that makes SY like thirteen to fourteen. It's good for him because he catches the adults off guard when he swings at them.
LQG meeting SQQ's mortal (?) brother and immediately seeing the resemblance when SY bristles because of something.
ANYWAYS THIS IS JUST A SHITPOST, IW AS ORGANIZING MY THOUGHTS BUT,,, Woodcutter SY,,, so cool X3
The second SY feels any guilt the og body’s lingering personality telling him that no, he shouldn’t feel guilt. He’s protecting his family, why should they feel guilty for protecting their family? And in some sort of self hypnosis way, it works.
LOL IMAGINE IF THE OG PERSONALITY ALSO COMES OUT WHEN SY SLEEPS? Like if something happens and SY’s like… knocked out or something..? He sleep walks except it’s actually just the original personality controlling the body. While the og is in control he doesn’t open his eyes because if he did then Shen Yuan would probably wake up!
Idk I think it’d be cool if there were a demon attack and SY gets hit in the back of the head because the demon plans on eating the kids (SJ and YQ) first and so they just knock out SY (sadistic demon that wants to eat him while at he’s at the peak of despair—aka they want SY to wake up to find out the SJ and YQ have been eating and then eat SY last) and right as they’re cornering SJ, there’s like a slight cracking noise and it’s SY’s body GETTING UP, CRACKING IT’S NECK AND KNUCKLES, AND THEN LUNGING AT THE DEMON BARE HANDEDLY. AND LOWKEY, HE’S PUTTING BELT TO ASS.
LMAO anyways yeah I think that’d be funny because afterwards SY wakes up and has no memory of the entire thing so he’s like “Oh my head is killing me—why are you guys crying are you okay? What happened, did someone hurt you” and SJ or YQ just points to the body-mosaic in the corner lol
Shen Qingqiu deciding fuck it, he's going on a night-hunt to get off the peak and away from his overbearing overly concerned martial siblings and disciples. A harmless trip, just some rumored sightings of a peaceful rare spirit in the middle of basically nowhere or some other excuse. He'll be back by this time tomorrow Liu shidi, and don't you have some disciples to be teaching or something? He'll dress practically and take supplies and he'll even take a horse, if you're so worried about his ability to fly alone, jeez.
And while out there, he literally runs into Luo Binghe just after he escaped the abyss. Straight up doesn't see him and runs directly into him, no mistaking him both for the fact that the system awakens, and Shen Qingqiu could never not recognize Binghe. Judging by the state of his clothing/lack thereof, and the amount of dried and drying blood on him, he hasn't even made it to Huanhua yet. Maybe hasn't seen a single person since pulling himself out of hell.
What is a poor transmigrated scum villain to do? Like oh god, Binghe's SO EARLY he's not supposed to be out yet! He's not prepared at all! The mushrooms aren't ready and there's no allies nearby! Fuck! But also his POOR LOTUS looks so miserable and shocked and isn't attacking him YET so maybe he doesn't recognize him? So it turns into 'don't you worry Binghe your Shi- THIS ROGUE CULTIVATOR who is definitely not related to your Shizun in any way shape or form- will help you!' Cue him bundling Binghe onto the horse and taking him to the nearest Inn.
Binghe, who definitely clocked his beloved Shizun the second he saw him, isn't entirely sure this isn't some hallucination triggered by using the Xin Mo sword despite Meng Mo saying he wasn't ready. But is it so bad, to have such a lovely vision of his Shizun caring for him, in the meantime? To remind himself of why he must earn back his Shizun's love at all costs?
So he plays up his basically not existent injuries, and his exhaustion (less played up, he is so so tired) to have this 'mysterious not-shizun dote on him, trying to wrap his mind around what exactly he's missed and what changed between the Immortal Alliance Conference and now. Shen Qingqiu's plan is just to stay until the love interest shows up to take over, unaware that he IS the love interest that showed up.

Scum villain au where literally everyone is a transmigrator trying to hide it. Different people know about each other but no one knows about everyone. yqy like sqh has been a transmigrator from the beginning and is really fucked up about sqq now
tianlang-jun only remembers the wife plots he specifically liked but this is useless because he doesn’t know he transmigrated into a novel
zhuzhi-lang had a sibling who was super into the novel but he only kind of listened to what they said and by the time he realizes where he is it’s too late
so i wasn’t supposed to be writing this. i was supposed to be doing a lot of things other than writing this. but i also couldn’t stop thinking about gongyi xiao reading scum villain so here you go.
Gongyi Xiao admits to being a weird kid. He started off weird, and then one day, he got hit over the head with a lifetime’s worth of memories, which really only made him weirder. At this point, though, he’s either gotten really good at hiding it or literally everything else about him makes up for it, because ‘weird’ is not actually part of his reputation, no matter how much his best friend says that it should be.
No, his reputation, somehow, is all about how he’s a nice, talented young man who could, possibly, theoretically, make Head Disciple. He supposes that’s the power of being Gongyi Xiao! Peerless and beautiful and perfect up until he runs headfirst against the protagonist!
Got inspired by this post. Liugrace brain worms be living in my head rent free now. Yes, it doesn't make sense and it doesn't have to. It is what it is lol
What if Shen Yuan was supposed to be the head disciple instead of Shen Jiu?
Imagine with me: Shen Jiu and Shen Yuan join the sect together. Both of them had a late start to cultivation, but they manage to claw their way to the top. Shen Yuan is always just a bit better than Shen Jiu, and while Shen Jiu is surrounded by unsavoury rumours and unsettling whispers, Shen Yuan is beloved by all.
The two of them are attached at the hip. Always. Shen Jiu is jealous of his brother, which is very obvious. Shen Yuan thinks it's cute and absolutely refuses to let that get between them. Shen Jiu is secretly glad about that, absolutely loves that despite everything Shen Yuan will always chose him above anything else.
And then, just a week before the ascension ceremony, Shen Yuan doesn't return from his night hunt. Everybody else managed to, but not Shen Yuan. Nobody knows where he is.
Shen Yuan is declared dead.
The ascension ceremony still happens. A grieving, angry Shen Jiu is promoted to peak lord despite his protests. The other peak lords hate that they ended up with Shen Jiu instead of Shen Yuan. Shen Jiu despises that they're so willing to declare his brother dead.
He wanted to be as good as Yuan-ge, yes, but he never wanted to take his place. Especially not like this!
Shen Jiu keeps looking for traces of his brother. He doesn't tell anyone. He doesn't show his anger and fear and grief to anyone either. There's rumours that Shen Jiu killed his twin to take his place. Shen Jiu's reaction to that, angry and violent in a way he hasn't been since just after they joined the sect, does nothing to quell those rumours.
Things progress as they did in PIDW. Shen Jiu becomes colder, angrier, lashes out more and more. Luo Binghe joins. Shen Jiu doesn't care for him, not in the least. The abyss happens.
And somewhere during those five years, Luo Binghe finds a man who looks identical to his angry, abusive Shizun. The man smiles warmly in a way Shizun never did and seems excited when Luo Binghe tells him he looks like a human. "That must be A-Jiu! He's doing well, then? How about his health? Is he eating properly? Is he happy? Oh, you have to tell me everything about him! I haven't seen my little brother in years…"
And it turns out that this man, Shen Yuan, was supposed to become peak lord instead of Shen Qingqiu. Right until he fell into the endless abyss shortly before the ceremony. He shows Luo Binghe how to survive, and at some point they fall in love. Together, they finally manage to leave the abyss.
Luo Binghe never tells him that he hates his Shizun, just that he learned under Shen Qingqiu. He doesn't burn down the world or even the sect that abandoned him. Instead, he comes back in front of everyone.
He tells them that, actually, he wasn't dead. He fell into the abyss that day, yes, but he survived. And he found someone else who survived there, namely his new husband.
He brings out Shen Yuan, and he revels in the pain and panic and absolute despair on Shen Qingqiu's face.
He doesn't need to ruin the man's reputation. Everyone is right back to comparing him with his brother and finding him lacking anyways. He doesn't need to destroy everything he loves, either. The only thing Shen Qingqiu truly loved more than himself is already Luo Binghe's. And Shen Qingqiu will always be scared of his kind, wonderful brother finding out how he pushed his own disciple, Shen Yuan's husband, into the abyss with his own hands. Being able to hang that over Shen Qingqiu's head is torment enough.
Unbeknownst to the two of them, Shen Yuan can tell. He saw the look of panic on his didi's face, noticed how Lou Binghe always refused to mention his relationship with his Shizun and connected the dots.
But as always when Shen Jiu did something wrong, Shen Yuan decided that, well, that's his brother. And in the end, that will always be more important than whatever crime he's committed.
Scum Villain reverse AU where Bingge becomes an obsessive anti fan following the fantasy slice of life serial, Spoiled Mortal Mundane Way, following spoiled young master from the far future, Shen Yuan. He adores Shen Yuan, but the hack author constantly underutilizes his potential and never includes any action. Then he dies of a massive qi deviation and transmigrates into his least favorite character, Luo Yuhuan, Shen Yuan’s girlfriend in middle school who became his obsessive stalker, poisoning his food several times (the reason for his death in SV timeline)
Important to mention that Airplane wrote this story within a story into PIDW specifically to fuck with Cucumber, but the snippets of text that make it into the chapters is disturbingly accurate to Shen Yuan’s real life and he’s convinced he has a stalker. (He does, but it’s Luo Yuhuan, not airplane)
It’s never revealed in cannon who the serial’s author is, but it’s secretly Mobei Jun, the images beamed into his head while he sleeps. He recounts them to Liu Mingyan and Sha Hualing who write them down and publish them respectively. Something something airplane dreamed up SY’s dream man so now airplane’s dream man dreams up LBG’s dream man.
Ok so I got wayy too invested in this idea and I was trying to think what the missed “potential” and “action” would be about, bc what could have Bingge that intrigued?? This is a slice of life, how much action can there be?? And oh my god it would absolutely be about food.
The whole story would kinda revolve around food/SY’s relationship with food and even though other stuff happens, that theme always remains in the background.
It starts out well with the food SY was fed in his childhood, some bullies ruin/steal his lunch every now and then -plus that one crazy food-poisoning stalker girlfriend in middle school- but everything’s moslty ok. And THEN we get to adulthood and things just go downhill.
He tries cooking for himself at first, like any responsible adult would, but it goes so bad that he just gives up from embarassement. His meimei tries to encourage him to try again (with her help this time) but it doesn’t go much better and she laughs in his face like every good little sister would, he then swears to never cook again (Bingge starts crying blood here).
He survives on restaurants and diners for a while (look meimei, he still goes outside. Stop calling him a NEET) until he sees Luo Yuhuan, the crazy food-poisoning stalker ex from middle school, in the wild. Okay, so no going outside anymore (and no more new restaurants with their unique ingredients and cultural recipes 💔 goodbye worlbuilding) SY’s fully embracing the NEET lifestyle now.
He doesn’t cook (missed action- I mean cooking scenes) so it’s all take-out and trash food now (the way these are manufactured and have come to be in this world is pretty interesting. But please! Protagonist! Your health is declining!!) he becomes so invested in his hobbies (trash talking bad webnovels on the internet. Which, funnily enough, seem to be set in the real world. A not too subtle way for the author to proyect his own worldview, obviously) that he sometimes forgets to eat, the few times he gets a well-rounded meal is whenever he’s dragged into a surprise fammily lunch. It’s that bad.
And the worst part? It just ends on some random chapter. Yeah, remember the crazy ex? She got his ass. Why? How? No idea bro but she poisoned that shit. What about the worldbuilding? What about the mysterious older brothers that are somehow always abroad? What about that cooking competition that the protagonist used to watch?? You’re telling me it wasn’t forshadowing??? Wasn’t he ever gonna learn to cook for himself? I would gladly cook for him.
Then Luo Binghe, Empereor of two realms, husband of hundreds, fucking dies.
Liu Mingyan and Sha Hualing are freaking out bc their stupid writing proyect apparently reached their husband and killed him and now the harem/empire is a mess, oh my god ohmygod. Meanwhile Mobei Jun is inmensly disappointed that the visions ended so suddenly, bc he really wanted to see where the rivalry with that author went. Didn’t even get to show up. Terrible. He dies too and now LMY and SHL live in fear of their own creation.
getting lost in boston is fun because I turned around on a street corner three times and some guy yelled "hey stupid! the bus is that way!" very helpful interaction and accurate insult, 10/10 no notes
one time I walked around a building a couple times looking for a bathroom and this guy went "this bitch thinks she's on a merrygoround, where the fuck are you tryna go? bathroom? one floor down to the right behind the door that says bathroom."
My very first time in Boston. I was absolutely miserable, trying to drag my giant suitcase up a lengthy set of stairs in the pouring rain. This guy who had already reached the top looked back at me with the most pure expression of disgust I’ve ever seen in anyone’s eyes, marched back down the stairs, grabbed my suitcase, carried it to the top, left it there for me, and walked away without ever saying a word. I think about him often.
For the people in the notes going "why is Boston like this": a) the insults are a way to show you have no ulterior motives when helping someone (and don't need to be thanked or repaid), and b) Boston was settled by the Irish
also the Italians. mixing Irish and Italian sociocultural attitudes had the effect of multiplying the Sass Levels by the power of infinity, in the sense that you get all of the clever dry wit of the Irish and all of the bitchy gossipy condensation of the Italians rolled into one very stereotypically overly-friendly American package.
also worth noting that who you are to them doesn’t matter. they’ll talk to strangers like that and will also talk to their best friends like that. they’re just Like That.
