I know this is a lost battle but saying something 'is not a shoujo' to point out that it deals with heavy teams, violence, blood and gore or generally just isn't a high school romance is not correct at all and you don't know what shoujo is. I should start doing this with shounen series that aren't battle shounen,,,, gonna recommend haikyuu and say 'it isn't a shounen at all! it's about sports and lots of other themes that shounen and their silly boy battles don't deal with 😇' i think there's been enough famous shoujo out that weren't high school romances that we can stop doing that, please. I'm sure we can recommend a show without demeaning shoujo and acting like it is a genre and not a demographic full of different genres inside it.

So I’m eating chips and watching Gakuen Babysitters in my room and Sigge was just here, but I lead him to my dad because he was BEGGING for chips and the thing is he is allergic to pretty much everything. But I just felt so bad stuffing myself meanwhile he looked like Oliver Twist, so I had to get him out of my room. AND THEN HE KNOCKED 😢😢 well more accurately he gently scraped his paw across my door, he usually does this when he is cuddly like some cat, but I know what he is after and it isn’t cuddles. Oooo Sigge you must think you’re so sly, well yes I am letting you inside my room because your paw is just to gentle and soft on my door BUT ☝️ don’t guilt trip me when I’m not giving you any chips alright .
I've seen a bunch of "fandom etiquette" posts on my dash today and I'm going to say something that is maybe going to be unpopular but;
The absolutely pervasive mentality that unwanted criticism or critique shouldn't be given and should be ignored is why fans of color don't stay in fan spaces.
And I am not going to mince words here:
A lot of you are racist. A lot of your fan works are racist.
That might have been difficult to hear. And if it was, you should probably reflect on why that was.
"Fandom etiquette" has created a space where fans of color either bite our tongues and eventually leave or say something, get dogged on, and then eventually leave.
So much of "fandom etiquette" seems to be about insulating creatives from Feeling Bad and hostility to any kind of negative feedback is a pretty big contributor to why bigotry festers in these spaces.
#imo the potluck analogy applies- it would be rude to critique someone's icing technique at a potluck bc it wasn't as good as at the bakery #but if they had decorated their cupcakes w hate symbols it wouldn't be rude to tell them that's gross and gtfo #in fact it would be inappropriate to NOT say anything in that situation #or to complain that another guest who did point it out was 'ruining everyone's potluck' #and pointing out racism in fan works is 100% the second thing not the first! does anyone else’s moral ocd manifest in the form of you scrutinizing the way that YOU feel about pieces of media, e.g. you really enjoyed something but you see other people saying they disliked it for reasons x and y, and you suddenly feel you have to justify to YOURSELF in your own head WHY you liked it and WHY it’s okay that you liked it and yet still feeling like for some reason your opinion and their opinion can’t coexist because you simply MUST be wrong and therefore a bad person and also stupid. or is it just me
