The meeting:

Ming Fan had always been good at controlling his emotions. Thus he was also good at keeping his face plastered in a mask of indifference.

However, one day during a peak lord meeting, as usual, the head disciples went down to observe.

Standing next to him as the future sect leader was, of course, Zhang Yucan.

It was uncomfortable but nothing different than usual so he accepted the discomfort the same way he did everything. A mask of indifference.

This soon proved to be increasingly difficult as today it seemed Zhang Yucan was feeling a tad more confident than his already overly confident behaviour.

“What is going on with Zhang Shixiong?”

Zhui Ba Peak's head disciple, Lin Zhenyue whispered to Liang Yi Peak’s head disciple, Gu Xuanheng.

“I… do not know…”

For the past 30 minutes, Zhang Yucan had been unbleakingly staring right at Ming Fan saying nothing.

“Yue Qingyuan you seem to be lacking in your ability to control your disciples considering you have blatantly ignored your head disciple staring at Ming Fan for longer than an incense stick of time.”

Shen Qingqiu at last lost his patience. He had, for quite a while, disliked how much Zhang Yucan reminds him of Yue Qingyuan. Worse so that his target of ‘affections’ is his own head disciple, Ming Fan.

“Ahh apologies Shidi, but I am quite happy with how well they get along as thus I see no issue.”

Yue Qingyuan, as expected, deflected the issue entirely in favour of his own head disciple.

Even as everyone knows, Zhang Yucan pays a special tribute of attention towards Ming Fan. Almost obsessively so.

After the meeting had been finalised, Shen Qingqiu and Ming Fan prepared to leave, as quickly as possible.

However before they could get far, Zhang Yucan and Yue Qingyuan addressed Ming Fan and Shen Qingqiu respectively.

“Ming Shidi, could you give me a moment?”

“A-jiu please give me just a moment…”

Both head disciple and peak lord looked over to each other as these pushy men look at them like abandoned dogs.

Both head disciple and peak lord simultaneously sighed.

“What is it Zhang Shixiong?”

“Don’t call me that! What do you want?”

With nearly the exact same cadence they snapped to their respective barnacles.

“Come I would like to show you something…”

“I have something I believe you will like, please do accept it…”

As quickly as the words left the men’s lips, both Ming Fan and Shen Qingqiu bristled, but kept their faces tightly hidden behind a sleeve and a fan resptively.

Shen Yuan who is reborn into SJ's family walking in on his family selling SJ to traffickers.

He stands there for a solid second before turning around and walking back out the door--only to return a few moments later dragging his axe behind him.

One of the traffickers had already escorted SJ out somewhere while two of them had stayed behind to discuss the transaction with SY's parents. Nobody expected Shen Yuan to come back, much less swinging an axe at them.

Shen Yuan leaves the house bloody--his axe tossed over one of his shoulders while he carries a thick coin purse in the other. He isn't quite sure where Shen Jiu was taken but he starts walking along the dirt path that leads into the town, assuming that's where they took his brother.

Nobody is crazy enough to get in the way of a person they think is crazy, so when Shen Yuan stops someone on the street to ask where he can buy a slave they give him rushed directions and quickly distance themselves. Shen Yuan isn't interested in giving chase, he has a brother to save after all.

I just think that it'd be cool to see scary older brother SY. Like if he'd been transmigrated instead of being reborn reborn, he would've instead offered to buy SJ back. Because he was reborn and assimilated into the life here his morality is a bit skewed. He's not a great person but his morals are good.

I think that their parents are so absorbed in being in love with one another that they don't really care for either of their children. So SY basically raised SJ himself.

If we want to insert Yue Qi into the picture the story would shift from them trying to sell SJ to them trying to sell SY, who's just come back to the village after being sent away for a year to take care of his dying grandparents or something. Like as soon as he gets home he sees the traffickers--but they don't expect him to use his wood chopping skills on them.

He interrogates his 'parents' with an axe pointed at their faces before learning that they sold his brother a year ago. So he finishes up his business at the house before going out to go find SJ, consequently bringing YQ back alongside SJ.

ANYWAYS IDK, I JUST THINK IT'D BE FUN FOR SJ TO HAVE SCARY BIG BROTHER PRIVELLEGES. The transformation is scary because SY's normally very gentle and enjoys reading stories to SJ and braiding SJ's hair (it reminds him of his sister). It's literally like magic because as soon as there's like a threat nearby SY's hair frizzes up like crazy (as if he has a mane lol) and he gets this dark look on his eyes as he grips his trusty axe.

There's so many ways this au could work to me, maybe when SY needs to get his hands dirty he blacks out and the personality of the body's original owner comes out. I think I prefer that way tbh. The original body was a BEAST--like a feral animal--but he was too loyal to his parents and was obediently sold off and eventually died.

Also I rhink the age gap shouldn't be super big here, maybe he's like 3-4 years older than SJ? (so like slightly older than yq) SJ's like ten here so that makes SY like thirteen to fourteen. It's good for him because he catches the adults off guard when he swings at them.

LQG meeting SQQ's mortal (?) brother and immediately seeing the resemblance when SY bristles because of something.

The second SY feels any guilt the og body’s lingering personality telling him that no, he shouldn’t feel guilt. He’s protecting his family, why should they feel guilty for protecting their family? And in some sort of self hypnosis way, it works.

LOL IMAGINE IF THE OG PERSONALITY ALSO COMES OUT WHEN SY SLEEPS? Like if something happens and SY’s like… knocked out or something..? He sleep walks except it’s actually just the original personality controlling the body. While the og is in control he doesn’t open his eyes because if he did then Shen Yuan would probably wake up!

Idk I think it’d be cool if there were a demon attack and SY gets hit in the back of the head because the demon plans on eating the kids (SJ and YQ) first and so they just knock out SY (sadistic demon that wants to eat him while at he’s at the peak of despair—aka they want SY to wake up to find out the SJ and YQ have been eating and then eat SY last) and right as they’re cornering SJ, there’s like a slight cracking noise and it’s SY’s body GETTING UP, CRACKING IT’S NECK AND KNUCKLES, AND THEN LUNGING AT THE DEMON BARE HANDEDLY. AND LOWKEY, HE’S PUTTING BELT TO ASS.
