Please don't group people who think queer is a slur in with terfs. It still is a slur in many parts of the world and many people don't want to be called that. Many of the people who believe this are themselves trans people- it's not right to lump us in with some of those who hate us most over an unrelated discourse point. It's possible to respect those who ID as queer while still knowing it's a slur, and that doesn't make us anything inherently like trans-exclusionary radfems.
I didnât mean for that come off in such a way. I definitely believe that not everyone is okay with the queer label. Hell, Iâm not all that comfortable being labeled as queer. I just meant that people can reclaim it if they want to. I apologize for causing any confusion or distress.
Like, people who identify as Queer know the word is used like a slur. Trust me, we know.
So when we say âqueer is a slurâ was started by terfs, maybe use some critical thinking and try to understand what we mean. That is, if you actually care about queer people and the damage terfs do, rather that just screaming âqueer is a slur!â and ignoring the actual point.
Terfs did not like that queer was reclaimed. End of. This is a fact. Queer was too broad, too accepting, and embraced all the people they wanted gone. And I know y'all exclusionists feel the same but get pissed when we point it out so you deny it, but sit down and listen for a minute.
Queer was the preferred term for poc. For bisexuals. For trans people. For people with multiple identities. It neatly encapsulated everything, and was a friendly community to those who felt thrown under the bus by mainstream LGBT activism. It was a political and social statement, âyou treated my like I was different and weird, and guess what? I am and thatâs something to be proud of.â
So the response? âYou canât use that word. Its bad. Its a slur.â
And at the time, a lot of people rolled their eyes. Everyone knew why they didnât like the word and brushed that off. It was fine.
So they started more subtly. âJust so you know this word is very harmful and is a slur so be careful how you use it :))) in case you didnât know :)))) its a slur :))) friendly reminder :))) for the sake of other people of course :))))â type shit on every post involving the word, including and especially posts simply mentioning self identification.
Always worded in friendly, concerned ways, like the derailment was meant to be nice and considerate, and not about normalizing their rhetoric.
And what happened because of that was a younger generation of community kids growing up with these statements being thrown at them and absorbed on every. Single. Post. That. Mentionioned. Queer.
The result? That same generation of kids cutting it all short, removing the meant-to-be-palatable niceness, to just say âqueer is a slur.â
Exactly how it was originally intended. âQueer is a slur.â People drop on posts where young queer people talk about it being a self identifier that actually fits them. âIts a slur,â they comment, with nothing else, on posts they clearly didnât read past that word, written by people twice their age who had reclaimed it before they were even born.
Its nasty. Its disgusting. Itâs plain old bigotry, whether the people saying know it or not. It is a terf tactic, plain and simple.
And no one wants to deny that it is indeed used as a slur (right along with all the rest of our identities.) No one wants to be insensitive and force it on people who havenât reclaimed it.
But invading queer peopleâs posts to spit âqueer is a slurâ is flat out queerphobic. You do the dirty work of terfs, of cis straight oppressors, by saying in one simple sentence: âits a dirty word, there is no pride in it, you havenât/canât reclaim(ed) it.â
And regardless of your actual intentions, when you do this, that is EXACTLY what you are communicating and doing.
âQueer is a slurâ is a terf movement. Stop fucking supporting terfs just because you want to pretend like it isnât.
This is why I block people who say âQueer is a slur.âÂ
You quack like a terf, I block you like a terf.Â
This thing was so weird to me when I first encountered it on tumblr, because like⌠in academia
queer studies
is a thing. Queer Theory is a thing. If I search my Uniâs library for âqueerâ I get 138,481 results. Here are some of them:Â
Queer in Europe : contemporary case studies / edited by Lisa Downing and Robert Gillett.
Queer Phenomenology, Sexual Orientation, and Health Care Spaces: Learning From the Narratives of Queer Women and Nurses in Primary Health Care, / Cressida Heyes, Megan Dean, Lisa Goldberg.
Playing With Time: Gay Intergenerational Performance Work and the Productive Possibilities of Queer Temporalities / Stephen Farrier
Postcolonial and queer theories : intersections and essays / edited by John C. Hawley.
Queer Dickens : erotics, families, masculinities / Holly Furneaux.
Showing Your Pride: A National Survey of Queer Student Centres in Canadian Colleges and Universities /Â John Ecker, Jennifer Rae, Amandeep Bassi
Mad for Foucault : rethinking the foundations of queer theory / Lynne Huffer.
Do those look like queerphobic texts? And do you think that most of the writers writing about queer theory are straight? Lols. If you donât want to be personally be called queer, thatâs cool. You donât get to stop other people using the word though. Itâs ours now and weâre keeping it.
Did I reblog this already? If I did, doesnât hurt to blog it again. I usually unfollow people who use the tag (or the equilivant) q-slur. Because fuck you, Iâm queer. Have been since like 1986.
queer was mlm slang/code in the 18th and 19th centuries, turned into a slur in the 20th century
when we say it was reclaimed, we mean it was reclaimedÂ

Iâm just saying, children always know who to trust.
Bonus:
Sure do. They sure do.
Strange that they never acknowledge the children he bombed.
@gfta-officialâ
What about the children that were killed in Yemen because Obama used 1 billion dollars of tax payerâs money to give weapons to Saudi Arabia who then attacked Yemen, destroyed their country, and overthrew their government.Â
How about the children in Libya who are no being sold into slavery because Obama overthrew Muammar al-Gaddafi causing a civil war which ended with a regime 10 times worse than Gaddafiâs to take control. Libya went from being one of the wealthiest countries in Africa to having one of the biggest slave trades.Â
What about kids in Syria that had to flee their homes because he helped create ISIS by giving them supplies and weapons back when they were a rebel army.Â
What about children killed in Airstrikes in the middle east. Obama is responsible for ten times the number of airstrikes than any other president. He also targeted hospitals and weddings.Â
Remember this photo:
It was taken in 2014 when Obama started the practice of separating Undocumented children from their parents. He is also responsible for more deportation between 2009-2015 than any other president.Â
Lets not pretend that Obama doesnât have blood on his hands because he is no different than any other president weâve ever had. Just because he takes pictures with cute kids it doesnât mean he is a saint.Â
âyoung adult dystopian novels are so unrealistic lmao like they always have some random teenage girl rising up to inspire the world to make change.â
a hero emergesÂ
And just like in the novels, grown men and women are going out of their way to destroy her. Support our hero.
And itâs not even like it doesnât happen regularly. Â

DAPL protestors (names not found)

This isnât a coincidence. Revolutions almost always happen when the population of a country is at its youngest and thatâs a lot more true nowadays with social media.
Claudette Colvin was actually the first one to refuse her seat in Montgomery, Alabama to a white passenger. The movement chose to promote Rosa Parks as the figure for that form of protest because Claudette was a pregnant 15-year-old girl.
Barbara Rose Johns was a 16-year-old who organized a student strike protesting segregated schools. This strike, after gaining support of the NAACP, became a lawsuit that turned into Brown vs. The Board of Education and resulted in the desegregation of U.S schools nationally.
7th-grader Mary Beth Tinker, disturbed by the Vietnam War, decided to wear an arm band with a peace sign on it in protest. Her school suspended her. Her family filed a suit, Tinker vs. Des Moines, which reached the Supreme Court and ruled in her favor, ensuring that students and teachers maintain their right to free speech while in school.
Freddie & Truus Oversteegen were sisters who joined a Dutch resistance movement in WWII in their teens. They lured, ambushed, and assassinated Nazis and Dutch collaborators. They also blew up a railway line, transported Jewish refugees to new hiding places, and worked in an emergency hospital.Â
Our history books may like to showcase male figures, but behind every movement is a young girl ready to make a change. It was true then, itâs true now, and future generations of teenage girls will go on to inspire progress, whether theyâre credited or not.
I remember this because it used the same picture, but in 7th or 8th grade, our official school workbook had us âsee both sidesâ about why Mary Beth Tinker was actually wrong to do that, and how it wasnât appropriate to protest like that in school because it was a place to learn, and it was a distraction. I was shocked then and the memory freaks me out now.

hey guys friendly reminder from your fave Canadian that esk*mo is a slur so please donât use it!
I see it usually in the context of âesk*mo kissesâ which may pop up when people talk about their ships and their headcanon, but it means âsnow eatersâ in cree and is a slur against Inuit people so please just donât use it!
and I would appreciate if u reblogged this because people outside Canada donât seem to know this for the most part
Also if you want to refer to ââeskimo kissesââ and not use that term the Inuit term for it is ââkunikââ. Itâs a traditional greeting usually between relatives or a child and an adult, although itâs a little different from nose kisses so most Canadians call it ââInuit kissââ and Iâve heard other people call it ââbunny kissesââ. Either way thereâs no excuse to use ââeskimoââ in this context or another.
Thanks for telling us Americans definitely have no idea, so itâs good information.Â
Wait what's a buildings fire evacuation plan if you aren't supposed to use the elevator to get down
You go down the stairwell/fire escape. Is that weird?
But what if you have a walker or a wheelchair??
in america at least, in this situation, there isnt one. either your loved ones or the firemen can get you out using the emergency fire escapes or stairs, or you dieÂ
That's fucking horrific, thank you
âfunâ little story:
last summer my friend who is an amazingly talented artist and i were in this super tall building, and sheâs in a wheelchair and iâm pushing her around the room. itâs an art exhibit and some of her art was chosen to be showcased there and so itâs all fine and dandy until suddenly an alarm starts going off
a FIRE ALARM
everyone starts running for the stairs and my friend just looks at me with this forlorn look on her face
âi canât go down the stairsâ
but iâm a stubborn bitch âiâll carry youâ
âwhat about my chair? itâs too expensive for me to be able to get another one if i canât get this one backâ
âiâll carry that tooâ
and i did. we went to the stairs (by then most people from our floor were gone) and i lifted her up in a firemanâs carry over my shoulder and then lifted her chair up and used the ridiculous amount of adrenaline that was coursing through my veins to make it down approximately 20 half-flights of stairs until we met some people exiting lower floors, one of which who kindly took the chair. I changed positions so i was holding my friend bridal-style which was, somehow, easier and the person who took her wheelchair (with her permission to handle it of course) accompanied me to the ground floor and then out the doors
basically there is no real protocol for people who canât use the stairs in an emergency. itâs up to the people with them, if anyone, to help them or the person to somehow make it down the stairs alone, unassisted
thank fuck that it was just a faulty alarm system, because if i was unable to carry her down those stairs and the building was on fucking fire???? then i donât know what would have happened to her, but i donât think it would have been very good.
itâs fucking ridiculous and ableist to the absolute max.
I use a cane. When I did a day-long fire safety training at my northeast American university (UMass Amherst), I asked that exact same question: âwhat am I supposed to do if the fire alarm goes off and Iâm in my lab on the twelfth floor?âÂ
the fire marshal hemmed and hawed for a while and then said to take the elevator- youâre supposed to leave it free for the fire department to use and they want able-bodied people out fast not waiting for elevators. if the fire alarm has just gone off the building probably hasnât suffered enough structural damage to make using the elevator dangerous, and modern elevator wells are heavily reinforced. many large and high-trafficked buildings on my campus have fire rated elevators that link in with the fire alarm system so they wonât let you off on a floor with a possible fire.Â
if the elevator isnât working, wait in the stairwell and call the fire department to let them know where you are. modern stairwells are also heavily reinforced- it might not be pleasant but modern building code usually requires fire-resistant stairwell doors in office and big residential buildings, also to help firefighters get in and out safely. older buildingsâ stairwells may or may not be retrofitted with fire-resistant doors but a stairwell is generally the safest place to wait if you canât get out.Â
what happened to your friend was horrible, and iâm very glad you were there to help her out, but you can absolutely use the elevator to evacuate if itâs not shut down. those donât-use-the-elevator rules are for abled people. Â
This is GOOD TO KNOW. why do they not tell people this??
Very simple! We're not abled so they can't be fucked to tell us!
It's a fantastic point, but John Boyega's net worth also puts him at $6 million. When he says eat the rich, he isn't safe either...
Thereâs a pretty big fucking difference between six million and one trillion lmao
Not to mention the way the money was made
An actor being paid for a role / doing some advertising is a world away form a man setting up a cooperate money machine that horrendously exploits workers
This is something I hate SO MUCH about how tumblr talks about money.
Like, I get that famous actors have large amounts of money, some of them are even probably overpaid (I have complicated thoughts about how actors are paid because of the nature of acting as a career), but they are exchanging labor for money, and their salaries are an expense involved in making a movie.
But like... an actor is paid for a job. Theyâre a worker like the rest of us. Bezos isnât paid for a job, heâs paid for being the person who owns Amazon and despite being obscenely wealthy, he does all sorts of shitty things and to underpay and exploit his workers, and avoid paying taxes, so that more of the money Amazon generates will be profit (workerâs salaries are not profit, theyâre a business expense).Â
These two mechanisms of acquiring money are fundamentally very different.Â
The reason why billionaires are evil arenât because having money is bad, its because to get a billion dollars you have to cheat. You have to take it from someone else. If Bezos paid all his workers and suppliers fairly and treated them well, and paid his fair amount of taxes, and etc, then it literally wouldnât matter how much money he earned, because he wouldnât be doing anyone any harm. But its not actually possible to amass a billion dollars (a full order of magnitude bigger than a million) while behaving in an ethical manner.Â
I think thereâs a difference between being rich and having more wealth than you know what to do with. Like if youâre actively using the things you buy than whatever. A family that my family is friends with lives in Arkansas, and the dad is from Malaysia. He basically grew up on the water; boating and fishing and water skiing, etc. So they got a lake house that they go to almost every weekend. Thatâs what I mean like if youâre gonna have 2 or 3 houses obviously you donât NEED them but they should at least be put to good use and not just buying houses just cause you can. All these billionaires with like 20 houses are insane cause thereâs no fucking way theyâre actually using those houses frequently. Same thing with people who have like 20 car garages and shit. Thereâs a really big difference between someone who actively works hard at their job and gets paid millions for it (actors, lawyers, neurosurgeons) and trust fund babies or people who own a famously unethical company who get paid billions because they rip off and exploit people.
made in anticipation of pride month!
ok to use for whatever, credit not needed but appreciated!! feel free to request any flags you donât see. terfs donât touch.
Itâs probably important to point out that this is from a Canadian textbook.

Biden has no plans of running for reelection if he wins the White House this November. Heâs being careful with who he selects for his VP because he intends to hand the baton to them for the next primary.
To a lot of people, heâs not an ideal candidate. Itâs four years, and it would allow for new Supreme Court justices. While we wouldnât immediately get the transformational social change that Bernie wanted, he still intends to start the process to a more progressive America.
If youâre still bitter about Bernieâs loss, please ask yourself: Would you rather have 4 years of moderate liberal policy that would ultimately lead us in a more progressive direction, or do you want to surrender your vote and continue course?
Making a fuss will not help our country. Voting will.
Amen.
You donât have to support Biden,
You just have to vote for him.
anyways if people could stop infantalizing trans men and afab nonbinary people that would be great
additionally if people could stop demonizing trans women and amab nonbinaries that would also be great

Please donât call something that isnât pedophilia pedophilia.
Relationships can be unhealthy, abusive, coercive, toxic, manipulative, codependent. Age gaps can be unhealthy, there can be a power imbalance.
All these things are bad things. All these things are hurtful to real people.
But if these people are adults, do not equate their relationship issues to pedophilia. It does nothing but delegitimize the word. People will no longer think âomg they groomed them!!â and start to say âoh dear who has a two year age gap now?â
You are going to hurt real victims. You are crying wolf. Think before you speak.
Please, take a moment to read this text.
Today I want to share with you something very crucial that happened in my country.Â
Yesterday (May 15, 2020) in Poland a pro-life (anti-choice) activist Zuzanna WiewiĂłrka was honored with a medal of justice.Â
(âStop hate for life defendersâ)
She have been harassing a seventeen years old girl, who wanted to have an abortion due to risk of death. The teenager was seeking help online and she was found by the activist, who stalked, blackmailed and sent her pictures of aborted babies.
Moreover this is not WiewiĂłrkaâs first action like that.
The girl refused changing her mind about abortion, but the activist was unstoppable and got information (most likely illegaly) about her childâs father and her family in order to tell them about young girlâs plans. The family locked her at home and she is apparently struggling with side effects of a failed abortion made with non-medical tools.
Zuzanna WiewiĂłrka also said that âBlowing up clinics offering abortions is a good way to prevent murder and killing doctors who provide abortions is crucial to stop killing innocentâ.
Whatâs more Zuzannaâs brother Maciej WiewiĂłrka supports his sister. He said that âSometimes rape is the only chance for a man to have sexâ. I do not even know how to comment that I will leave you with that.
How could someone who technically took away that young girlâs life get a prize for saving a life? How is she called a hero?
I wanted to mention that anti-choice activist try to take advantage of epidemy and lockdown that makes strikes impossible. Their actions do not seem like life saving at all.Â
I am shaking right now. I cannot even imagine how the poor teenager must be feeling. I definitely do not want to live in a world like that.
Please share! Spread the news, we have to resist this madness.
For someone who claims to be âpro-lifeâ, she sure talks about killing people casually. Not to mention that she has already destroyed lives. This is sick.
This user is right - that is terrorism! Talking about blowing up clinics and murdering people who work there - arenât those treats? Serious ones, yet she is getting awarded medals by the Polish Ministry of Justice. Shame on you, Poland.

Please stop trigger tagging with #epilepsy tw/cw/warning/etc.
I need every single person to understand how horrible tumblrâs tagging system is
I go into the tag for epilepsy and its all flashing lights. We canât use our own tag because people without epilepsy fill it up with improper warnings.
Use âflashingâ in place of âepilepsyâ in your tags. You arenât warning people of epileptics, youâre warning us of flashing lights. Please please tag properly. Epileptics say this endlessly and constantly and itâs ignored. You are risking lives by doing this.
Hereâs proof of what I mean:
THIS POST IS 100% OKAY TO REBLOG, I ENCOURAGE PEOPLE WITHOUT EPILEPSY TO ESPECIALLY DO SO!
Please go watch Sex Explained on Netflix. Not only is it a great resource for the basic sex education that is sorely lacking in the U.S., but some of yaâll need to take a deep breath and remember the difference between fantasy vs reality. This purity culture thing that weâre going through right now is directly harmful to responsible, healthy sexual expression. BTW this woman, Lisa Diamond, is a noted psychologist and has been pushing for greater understanding of womens sexuality as a whole.
