Originally, I went in worried the opposite would happen. Growing up, I've been taught that Nigeria, the country, is homophobic. (I was born in America.) But over time, I learned that there's tons of other queer Nigerians; some are out, and some are in the closet 😭.

I'm also not used to this much attention, lol

India, 1960s: When they told him to “dress as his heart desires” to his first gay club night, nobody, least of all Fingon (who spent the present-day equivalent of Rs 50,000 on his own outfit for the evening), expected Comrade Maedhros to borrow a doggy harness off Celegorm’s newest Alsatian and turn up dressed as a “small dachshund wearing a little Lenin hat”, inadvertently influencing global gay culture for decades to come.

They tried to kill us, but they did not succeed. And we owe so much thanks to the other oppressed peoples, in particular the Choctaw Nation and the Masai, who sent money and grain to us.

Let me repeat that. The Choctaw Nation who had just gone through the Trail of Tears sent us money to try save Irish lives. It’s led to an understanding between Irish people and Native American tribes, most recently when we donated to the Navajo and Hopi fundraisers for COVID-19 relief, because while it may be a different tribe, Irish people will never forget those who helped us and we’ll help back.

The entire population of the island is less than seven million people. We’re still a million less on this island than pre famine. And it’s not that long ago. My grandmother’s grandparents lived through it. We’ve told the stories, it literally changed the DNA of the country. We have a national fear of renting, because so many people were evicted. People joke about Irish people always offering loads of food, but it’s because there’s that cultural memory of not being able to.

This Tumblr post is the first time someone has explained to me *why* I couldn’t feed them before those instances.

every single time i have had to say, "i understand that if he had food or water, he could aspirate it into his lungs under anesthesia. i am not lying to you." THEN someone would make a little note and i would stop being repeatedly asked.

not a single time was that risk explained to me. the only reason it came up was because i already knew. i still don't understand why it isn't standard pre-op counseling or pre-op check information, when me as a parent acknowledging the actual risk also put THE MEDICAL STAFF at ease because i conveyed that i had informed understanding as reason to not lie about giving my kid food.

hear me out ok… beldaruit has his little bells and sometimes when he’ll see one of his apprentices (or a certain apprentice/qifrey) he’ll shout out “my little bell” on purpose /endearingly just to watch the victim squirm and get all the embarrassed because why is he being silly in broad daylight like that when he has a reputation to upkeep… why is he doting uncle… why is he the ridiculously silly grandpa who pretends to be oblivious and spoils his grandkids…..
