okay so this movie gave me a lot of feelings and I want to talk about them for anyone that may be on the fence about seeing it.

firstly, I’d like to note that Leslie Jones is an amazing actress and did very perfectly in this movie. her character was just so relatable. and that leads me to my next point: all the women were relatable in a realistic way. no one cared about who was prettier or who could snag the hot guy or anything.

the jumpsuits were just that, jumpsuits, and not made to be skin tight or sexy on purpose. it was an outfit you could realistically see on any gender with two arms and legs notwithstanding.

not one fat joke was made. not one. all the women ate healthy amounts of normal food like pizza and take out and weren’t eating in over-sexualised manners. it’s almost like these women were actual people.

there wasn’t any kind of woman pissing contest either. each character supported one another in a friendly manner without resorting to name calling or shaming. and I personally liked that all the woman had different body shapes and character quirks.

I also really loved that Chris Hemsworth played the usual dumb blonde trope. he was perfect and probably had a lot of fun, I bet. if you had placed a woman in his place, no one (including myself) would have noticed or made a big deal about it–but this was a big deal. he showed pictures and placements that were very fan service and golly it was nice to see a man fill the shoes of what women are normally pigeonholed for. I truly hope it made other men uncomfortable because that’s how I typically feel seeing the dumb lady whisked away by the leading man yet again because he thinks her dumbness makes her vagina somehow more appealing.

and the women weren’t sexualised??? can I list that more than once??? I feel I’ve said it too many times but it just felt good to watch a movie with leading ladies that didn’t focus on their bodies, sexual appetites, or how they want to bone each other because damn even women can’t resist the call of the vagina let’s make an unnecessary accidental make out scene or scene where they all get naked.

I’d also like to point out that our villain of the movie was literally every white boy I knew in school. the types that think if they can’t get a girlfriend or make their friends laugh that somehow the world is against them and it all needs to be destroyed. that if it happens, clearly it’s not them for not trying hard enough but the rest of the world. you know, the kind that usually feel the world should be handed to them? and I was legit terrified of him because men like that are real. there are guys out there that would take down the world in an instant if they could just because a girl he liked told him to go away. our character villain was no different.
