During a House Judiciary Committee hearing attacking the Southern Poverty Law Center, Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Texas had no time for the GOP’s ridiculous claims of “reverse racism.”

“I’m not gonna play with anybody who’s gonna play with my time, so I’m going directly to Ms. McCord—professor, let me put some respect on your name,” she said. “All right, ‘If I see a black pilot, I’m going to be like, boy, I hope he’s qualified.’ Does that sound like a hater or not?”
“That sounds like a racial stereotype,” McCord responded.
“‘We made a huge mistake when we passed the Civil Rights Act in the mid-1960s,’” she read.
“That sounds like someone who still adheres to racist views,” McCord answered.

An FBI document from the U.S. Department of Justice Jeffrey Epstein files contains extraordinary allegations involving President Donald Trump, Jeffrey Epstein, and a Trump-owned golf course — claims that appear to have originated from a single tipster who contacted federal authorities in 2021.
The FBI intake report does not identify the golf course referenced by the caller. However, the allegation appears in files connected to Epstein, whose sprawling Palm Beach mansion served as the center of many of the activities that ultimately led to his conviction and the federal sex-trafficking investigation that followed.

Shasta County residents voted by mail to get rid of mail voting and turn elections into in-person, one-day affairs.

Shasta County, a stalwart Republican stronghold that tilted to the MAGA right five years ago, has passed a local ballot measure that appears to flout state law by drastically restricting voting.
Measure B calls for turning elections into one-day, hand-counted affairs; requires voters to show photo identification at the polls every time they vote; and all but eliminates mailed ballots and absentee ones.
As of late Monday afternoon, the proposed charter amendment was leading 55% to 45% with about 2,500 ballots left to process, not enough to change the outcome. Of the nearly 28,000 voters who supported Measure B's requirement to vote in person, nearly 25,000 - 88% - voted for it by mail, election statistics show.
Measure B directly conflicts with state laws that restrict hand counts, guarantee vote-by-mail ballots for every registered voter and prohibit local governments from adopting their own voter ID requirements. The state Legislature passed the latter provision in 2024 after an earlier dust-up between the state and the Orange County city of Huntington Beach. The California Supreme Court struck down Huntington Beach's voter ID measure, passed in 2024, in January.
A spokesperson for California Attorney General Rob Bonta said his office is watching the election in Shasta County.
"We are closely monitoring the Measure B results and, if necessary, stand ready to take appropriate action to protect voters' rights and enforce state election laws," Walter Garcia, Bonta's spokesperson, said in a statement.
Shasta County has been a tinderbox of election-related conspiracies for years, promoted by a faction of true believers, far-right secessionists and outside influencers who wrongly insist that President Donald Trump won in 2020 and that local results are manipulated despite the fact that Trump won Shasta County in each of the past three presidential elections.
