These kids got it great when it comes to food requests huh. Five year old requesting crab legs??? I wasn't allowed to ask for beef ribs at the barbecue until the adults all had some 😭 banished to hot dog town and eventually hamburgerville until my teenage years, where I finally got to have a bite of Forbidden Steak with Jack Daniel's Sauce 🤤🤤🤤

In summary, how I feel about the writing of TVL, and really every piece of media that turns out to be antiblack when it never has to be, can be summarized by a Reverend Gordon, when Black New Yorkers discovered that they'd placed Ota Benga, an Mbuti man, in a Bronx zoo cage with apes for White entertainment (sadism) in 1906:
"Our race... is depressed enough without exhibiting one of us with the apes. We think we are worthy of being considered human beings, with souls."

Was playing yokai watch again and remembered that in one of the Y academy anime endings (from like 2019-2020) they totally whitewashed one of the characters
Both sides are from the same ending and like he’s not even that dark and it doesn’t even look like the same guy
Though despite yokai watch being one of my top favourite games the series in general is pretty racist with it’s designs being every guilty of the doughnut lips, like with probably the one of the worst being this evolution from the second game (2016)
It’s frustrating
Unfortunately I can only faintly see a difference 😅 but I can see your frustration. This reminds me of a branch story of a bl I used to read (I will not name names, but I would not recommend it), and how in the main story as a side character, he was brown.
But in his side story, suddenly he's like, the most washed out brown. Where you can tell that the actual painting is a pale skinned man, and they just desaturated the layer of brown that they had on top of him so it looks like a sickly ass layer of non commitment. Almost like it's supposed to be a tan, but it's not done evenly so it just looks patchy. And it's like... So what, when it was his time for romance, suddenly he couldn't be brown no more? Brown not romanceable? Mhm.
Chocolate. But only a moist chocolate cake. People be making these dry ass cakes and I can't stand that. A good chocolate cake should be spongy and light.

I'm exhausted, but tbh it's been pretty good otherwise! For running on 2.5 hours of sleep and two red bulls, I actually think I'm doing amazingly. Very productive work day. I do need to go drink water, thank you.
Mildly kicking the hornet's nest here, but I do find it inchresting how ALL of IWTV, all you ever heard was how Louis was such a liar about everything he ever said. No amount of the writing showing that while yes, he absolutely has a history of not telling the truth to protect himself, there were other people (mainly Claudia's own diaries) that attested to Lestat being not shit towards the family; that there was still an undercurrent of truth to how race played a pivotal role in Lestat's control of the relationship; none of this ever seemed to land with these viewers.
It was "unreliable narrator" this, "emotional terrorist" that (yes, that is a real thing that went around). The idea that a Black man could not be a perfect victim (nor person) and still be a victim was just, NOT a thing, ever. So much for lovers of "morally grey". There was not a singular ounce of grace, particularly from white female viewers. I was serious when I said they reminded me of the Mistress from 12 Years a Slave 😭
And yet you're telling me that people just bought what Lestat was talking about this season, hook, line, and sinker? There was just this assumption of truth, of innocence, of "well SEE he's just suffering and that made him do bad things!" As if everyone in the story wasn't suffering in some capacity? As if everyone didn't have something to stand guilty for in this show, yet did not have their sins excused?
I mean I didn't see one singular "emotional terrorist" accusation. I didn't see one "well he's unreliable and self piteous so this probably didn't happen!" The way they said about Louis getting violently beat and dropped from the sky by this man. Instead we got Louis' two siblings, who canonically stated their disdain for this man, saying how much they like Lestat. Crazy work. Major of example of writers not disregarding their Black fans, but actively disrespecting them 😭
@armanddelesbian your tags are spot on!! I said that back when the first season dropped, that if this show was gonna make me watch a Black man and woman get demeaned and abused, be proven "liars" against a white man in 2022 like we don't already deal with being not believed or valued when we experience racist violence, that I would feel extremely disrespected and they shoulda left them white.
And then they proceeded to write a trial where the characters do JUST THAT- utilize racist DARVO tactics IN UNIVERSE, in a way that shows at least a surface level understanding of how this sort of violence is wielded against us, it was so good- just for the writing to turn tail at the last minute and say "jk, yeah actually Lestat is uwu and really you should be worried about the Evil Brown Muslim for the next season!"
Like if y'all were gonna do the Black and Brown characters like that, if y'all were gonna amplify their bad for the sake of Lestat's "nuance", y'all really shoulda kept all these people white and never changed the story at all. They truly wasted a potential opportunity for a thoughtful, intentional spin, just to satisfy a lazy white audience's desire for blood and funsies. I don't think I'll ever forgive em fr.
