"If you say so."Β They swapped paper for coffee and she started aggressively spooning sugar into it.
"Not a fan of Prince Edward I take it?"
"Everyone knows Prince Albert is much better looking," Artie smirked.Β Francine rolled her eyes.
"Watch it buster."Β She brandished the marmalade knife at him then turned it on Papa, now safely concealed behind the newspaper.Β "Firstly, no, I don't much care for his politics - "
"The King is apolitical there was a whole Revolution about it."
Francine perked up.Β "Do we need to assassinate him?"
"No.Β No regicide.Β And yes I am aware, that is precisely the problem, I'm worried about him interfering in government."
Papa glanced over the top of the paper.Β "You love interfering in government.Β But I agree, losing two sitting monarchs in one week would start to look like carelessness."
"You never let me do anything," she pouted.
"There's plenty of time.Β Your mother didn't assassinate anyone until she was nearly twenty."
"Oh then I'm overdue," Artie chimed in.
"No regicide!Β And I'm not the bleeding King - I'm allowed!Β Or rather, if IΒ wereΒ allowed toΒ participateΒ in government I wouldn't have to interfere now would I?"
"Can I interfere in goverment?"
"Not until you finish your degree," Papa told him firmly.Β "What is it in this week?"
"Classics.Β I'm thinking of taking an apprenticeship with an antiquities dealer."
Mama paused, interested.Β "Oh?Β I didn't hear about that."
"Tell the agent you've got tailing me to step up his game then."
"Francine," Papa said, "step up your game."
"Hey!"
"It's a good idea though," Mama was nodding thoughtfully.Β "It could get you into a lot of interesting places."
"That isn't the only reason - "
"He likes looking at the nuddy statues," Francine said.Β Her brother reddened.
"That isn't the only reason either!Β I'll - I'll have you all know it's a fascinating field of study.Β Ovid'sΒ MetamorphosesΒ - "
"Have a story about a fellow who falls in love with a nuddy statue," Francine said smugly.
"Pygmalion.Β That's a good one."Β Papa turned another page.Β "Though I always found Acteon terribly romantic."
"Pygmalion is the one about the insufferable philologist," Mama corrected.Β "Wilde - no, I'm wrong, Shaw."
"Well I am happy to report my days of being an insufferable philologist are resigned to last week, and henceforth I shall be an insufferable classicist," Artie grinned.Β "Unless of course next week I decide to drop it all and become a Barrister."
"Not a Solicitor?"
"I like to argue."
"No arguing with that."Β Papa yawned.Β "Alright, I think I am going to turn in."Β He folded the paper and stood up, pausing to lean down for a kiss.
"Ewwwww groooosssss," Francine said.Β Her parents ignored her.
"Sweet dreams, luv.Β I promise not to start another Civil War without you."
"That's all I ask."
"I have to dash too," Artie said.Β "Greek meets early it's very inconsiderate."Β Β
"Take your coat this time there's only so much ectothermy I am willing to put up with."
"Fiiiiiiiiiiiiine."Β He also leaned down to kiss their mother on the cheek.
Francine stood up but she wasn't quick enough with her escape.Β "Francine, I can tell already I'm going to be kept busy with all this nonsense."Β Mama gave the paper a disdainful look.Β "Be a dear and take care of the washing up, will you?"
She waited until Mama had left as well and she was alone with the breakfast mess before telling it all very sincerely: "fuck."

So apparently, over the summer, Quibi (the shortest-lasting streaming service ever lmao) did a quarantine project called βHome Movie: The Princess Brideβ where a bunch of celebrities recreated The Princess Bride in tiny chunks at home.
And like there was no permanent cast, all these celebrities seem to have gotten a scene or part of a scene to do (iβm not sure exactly, I did not ever watch Quibi and thus havenβt seen this yet), and then they justβ¦ recreated it as best they could. At home. Under quarantine.
So like, you had Jennifer Garner in a blanket cape playing Princess Buttercup AND the Booing Old Woman with a crowd comprised entirely of stuffed animals:

And itβs all just delightful.
