it's such bs that the whole guilt-ridden stoic self-sacrificing martyr thing doesn't work outside of fiction. repressing all your emotions and neglecting your physical wellbeing should make you god's most tragically beautiful morally unassailable little soldier of righteousness but all it does is give you bad skin and gastrointestinal problems
like what do you MEAN the number 1 sexiest character trait of all time is just kind of offputting and bad for you in real life. next you'll tell me smoking has consequences other than looking like a mysterious badass
this site ain't so bad. it's something to do in the mornings while ur bread toasts, right? ^_^
thinking about the fertility test in the hippocratic text "on barrenness" where the doctor is supposed to peel a clove of garlic and stick it in the womans pussy to see if he can smell the garlic in her mouth the next day. putting aromatics in my pussy would not have been my first thought as a person struggling to get pregnant in ancient greece but i guess garlic fixes just about anything
if the doctor could smell the garlic it meant that nothing was blocking the pathway between mouth and vagina and hence was a good sign for your fertility. which does imply the inverse that if you eat garlic you should be smelling absolutely delicious down there the next day when you think about it
if i had a nickel for everyone who has now told me theyve put garlic in their pussy. well i'd have more nickels than i would have expected. thank you for your service
been playing a lot of sudoku latelyâŚ

adulthood notes:
The Rodeo Rule: you only have to do it for the first time once.
The Rohan Rule: if you are at a social function full of new people and you want to be liked, find someone doing important work like setup or food prep and offer to help.
The Tutorial Mode Rule: to navigate an unfamiliar situation where you fear you will mess up an interaction, preface the interaction by mentioning that you've never done this before, and let them know if you have a specific concern or question.
The Rocket Science Rule: most new things you want to try seem very complicated but are simple when taken step by step.
The [X] Will Remember That Rule: if you need to make small talk with the same person on a regular basis, try to save one fact or current event in their life from a given conversation and bring it up next time you talk.
The Cool Binder Rule: by wearing clothes and accessories that are to your taste instead of trying to blend in, people will be more likely to compliment you and show interest in you as a person.
the horror of being "god's favourite princess". literally one of my favourite horror themes. the god loves you and it's so scary.
it will always choose you. you cannot die. you'll always come back because it loves you so much. you are its right and left hand, its eternal weapon. it will drown you in its light. light as horror. darkness as horror. what if it thinks you are its best friend.
you are god's favourite princess and it's terrifying.
Whenever I see someone refer to "Victorian era-" for places outside the UK I'm tempted to start saying shit like "Han Dynasty era Rome", "Soviet era Australia" etc
âWelcome to Soviet America, home of the McDonalds and Cocaine Cola. Long live Comrade Reagan.â
The Civil War, or as I like to call it, Late Tokugawa Period America
I know this is a joke but this helps me put a lot of historical periods into perspective.
"cowboys were a sort of itinerant warrior class common in meiji-era texas"
pop health science is so annoying bc it'll be like "did you know? eating strawberries will give you mega cancer" and you're like pfft whatever begone influencer. but sometimes then you'll see a reasonably credible article like "Study Shows Possible Link Between Strawberries and Mega Cancer" and you're not usually the type to follow that kind of thing religiously but idk maybe you should consider not eating strawberries? but then there's another article saying "Strawberry/Mega Cancer Study Debunked" and it turns out the original study had a sample size of 3 and was funded by Big Blueberry, and strawberries may have a small connection to mega cancer but only if you are genetically predisposed to mega cancer and eat 50 strawberries every day. so you return to your strawberry eating life. but whenever you eat strawberries in public someone tells you about the mega cancer.

can anyone tell me the watch order for every movie ever so i can understand all references and homages
@dionrevel PLEASE share the link.
Lol sure!!
For movies, here is the beginner's list:
Beginner's guide for getting in the loop.
And the more advanced list:
Advanced guide to getting in the loop. Supplementary to "Civilization Essentials." If a movie is on this list, then it has one of these: -Po
Not all these movies are necessarily good, but the ones that gave me small pop culture epiphanies. It made me realize that 30%-40% of the jokes from modern sitcoms are references/parodies- and these movies are their source material.
^^ This is also true for socializing. So many people I thought were naturally funny were just doing movie bits.
[I actually do have a job, I am just a big fan of lists and graphs and flow charts etc.]
Oh I adore this. As someone who missed a bunch of stuff by way of chaos and poverty. This is a nice tool.
after a couple hours chopping dried sea urchins into tiny pieces with a razor blade you start referring to the razor blade as yourself in your thoughts. a little while afterwards you'll inevitably think something along the lines of "i'm getting a bit dull, i'm going to have to throw myself out & get myself a new self" at which point your internal monologue has pretty much returned to baseline
This happens with mobility aids too. I bump into shit with my forearm crutches and say "ow" before I realize those are not, in fact, More Legs. Then when I get up and try to walk without them for a second there's a moment of feeling like a dog walking upright
If you find this interesting, look into extended mind/body theory :)

I feel like I hate AI slightly less than the average Tumblr user, but it still scares the shit out of me to see how many people now engage in internet arguments by submitting their opponentâs argument to an AI bot and saying âexplain why this is wrong and I am right.â It is concerning first because most AI models are sycophants that will tell you exactly what you want to hear, which makes then extremely potent delusion-confirmers. But itâs even more concerning because learning how to argue for yourselfâ how to evaluate claims, to assess an argument, to find and check sources, to spot flaws in someoneâs caseâ is one of the most important skills you can have in life. If you donât have that, you are unable to evaluate what is true for yourself. You will walk right into the arms of the first crackpot or cult that talks to you when you donât have Claude available. Extremely grim portent that many people seem to find this acceptable
#filed under: âman who argues for a living says that arguing is important
I think this gets at something that's been bouncing around in my head for a bit about how people use AI, and how others perceive that use. And maybe it's not an original thought, but I haven't seen it laid out plainly and directly.
Generally, the use of AI models is essentially delegation. Essentially, you delegate the labor that you wish to happen, but don't want to do (or can't do) yourself. As a programmer, when I see my coworkers using AI to generate code, I instinctively get a little defensive and frustrated; programming is important, interesting, and fun to me and a part of me wants to shake them and shout, "Just do it yourself!"
But of course, there are many ways to use AI as part of the profession of computer programming. Maybe there are some repetitive or nearly-trivial tasks that might as well just be shoved off onto the program that's essentially an incredibly quick intern. But it's when people are using the AI for categories of tasks because they find the task hard, and the AI can do a better job then them, where I think my frustration is more justified. Because aside from just delegating the task, they are delegating the process of learning how to do the task, and any potential long-term benefits they (and by extension, the team as a whole) might gain from them developing those skills.
Now, outside of the workplace, the situation is different. Somebody with little or no programming experience might find they want a program that can do a particular task or automation for them, but making it themselves would be more time-consuming than the end product would be worth to them, and that's before the time they'd need to develop the skills to do it themselves. So they just fire off a request to an AI and get what they want. They basically have a cheap and quick contractor they can get mediocre work out of, and (through gritted teeth), that's fine. Developing programming skills and doing the work themselves are not priorities to these people; they have other uses for their time and energy that they find more valuable.
And of course in general, this isn't something new that comes with AI. I distinctly recall in 2012, overhearing a college student in the frozen foods aisle of a grocery store say that nobody should be buying a full frozen meal that just needs to be heated as that's too lazy and reflects poorly on the purchaser. Of course this is nonsense; people must eat very frequently and not everyone has the time, inclination, or ability to spend the time and effort involved in cooking every meal from scratch (or cooking most meals from kits, or preparing any meal outside the microwave, etc). I mean, I enjoy cooking and developing my cooking skills, but I often have things I'd rather be doing, and while I can often make something that tastes better than a frozen prepackaged stir-fry or pasta-with-sauce, I'm perfectly fine regularly delegating that work to a factory that mass-produces such things so I don't need to spend an hour plus in the kitchen every night.
And I think that thinking about this in terms of delegation makes sense when it comes to interpersonal communications as well. When you have Claude compose a text message to your friend, that's basically going "I'm not going to speak with you, I'll have my personal assistant do so on my behalf." Now, I'm not going to make a moral or ethical judgement about that, but just in terms of what that tells the other person, of course that's going to be perceived as rude! You are delegating the task of maintaining a friendship to something else! You are signaling that the friendship is not enough of a priority to do it yourself.
And then, to (finally) bring it back to the topic of arguing online with strangers: this isn't even something that you need to do or get a direct benefit from. Arguing with strangers online is almost always completely optional! You do it because you want to do it; delegating this to a bot is, in addition to being rude in the sense of delegating your interpersonal communication, pointless! I would characterize it as akin to getting a bot for an online game, and instead of doing something like using it as an opponent to practice against or using it as a way to get an edge over legitimate players in game, just setting it to run on its own while you watch. Except as afloweroutofstone says, doing this arguing yourself helps develop real skills that are actually useful!
listen i consider myself an empathic person but after a certain point i get sick of other peopleâs problems. my friend is always talking about how the jewel-eyed skull on their mantlepiece is tormenting them w its sinister beauty and im over it. like dude i donât want to talk about this anymore. get rid of the fucking skull
youâ are biased against my skull
iâm not having this argument again man
