Hey there! I’m FrozenEmus (or just Emu). I’ve been on tumblr since 2020, although for most of that I was a lurker until early 2022.
Just out of courtesy for other people, I’ve decided to compile a list of things that I think should be said up-front for those that don’t know me:
(The first being I’ve decided to collapse this because of the fact that it’s a fairly chunky post and some people already know what I post so this doesn’t concern them)
______________________________________________________
- I have diagnosed ADHD, with many additional symptoms pointing to the possibility that I may be on the spectrum somewhere (although we have yet to look into this). There are a wide array of issue that have emerged in the past as a result of this including the following:
Anger Issues™.
That being said, anger storms aren’t as frequent online anymore, however I felt the need to include this bit out of caution.
I can be quite blunt at times. There have been many times where I’ve said things with good-intent and had people grow upset because I accidentally hit them with the verbal equivalent of folding chair (to those people, if you’re reading this, sorry about that)
There will be times where I have difficulty interpreting the meaning and tone of a post/comment, and will often ask for the intent if there’s no tone tags. Sorry if I seem dumb in the process.
Sometimes I see a post/comment/etc. and simply don’t have the mental energy to respond. It very likely doesn’t have to do with you or your comment (unless it’s like, really, really bad, and even that line is hard to cross)
My thoughts often come out at point-blank. Sometimes there’s a filter (courtesy of my anxiety), however not always.
- This is my main blog, so therefore it will reflect whatever hyperfixation I currently have at the time. You can probably read this blog like tree rings and be like “and this is when she was heavily into Hollow Knight for a month straight”.
- There are a few subjects that can be found on my blog constantly with varying frequency. These include:
Posts about bugs
Posts about marine biology
Posts with pretty pictures/gifs of nature
Computer programming
LOTS of video game-related stuff.
- With rare exceptions, there are a couple of subjects that will almost never be found on this blog:
Sexually explicit content
Overtly political content
Drama (not that there isn’t much here to begin with that I’m exposed to)

all goofing aside I genuinely don't understand the urge to reimagine Taylor Allison Swift as a secretly queer icon when the pop music scene(TM) is like. literally overflowing with women who actually like women. Gaga and Kesha and Miley and Halsey are right there. Rina Sawayama and Hayley Kiyoko and Rebecca Black and Kehlani and Victoria Monét and Miya Folick if you're willing to get slightly less top 100. Janelle and Demi for them nonbinary takes on liking girls. like what are we doing here. like I'm not even saying you can't enjoy Taylor but why would you hang all your little gay hopes on her.
why have multiple people reblogged this with some horse-assed "um actually most of these people are bi or pan" did I fucking stutter I said they like girls. what is your point. I'm going to kill you.
btw to just clarify for anyone who sees this reblog of this post
op is basically saying something along the lines of "yea ik taylor swift is bi but like. why is she y'all's only lgbtq+ pop icon when there are all these other lgbtq+ people in the pop scene???"
i might have worded this badly but hopefully i got the main point across
#I think it’s so funny I got that damn Taylor swift ad underneath this#anyways this is reminding me of that makeup post from way back when#where someone was saying no makeup is a valid way to wear your face and everyone kept insisting that you only need like….4 products
Please actually read the post because Taylor Swift isn't gay or queer you're just protecting because you want a reason to treat a real person like she's not humanly here.
If you want women or non-binary people to talk about their love of women there's actual bi/pan/lesbian artists who talk about their love of women and sing songs about it. You literally don't have an excuse to not listen to their songs at least once, especially if you're after W/W rep that Taylor Swift literally can't give you because she's Straight.
It's actually so simple in fact to find a song about kissing girls as a girl because there's a fucking song titled "I KISSED A GIRL" By LADY GAGA!!!!!

not now sweetie, mommy is watching how the massive girlbossification of female characters has led to the belief that weak and vulnerable female characters are badly written characters because apparently every woman needs to be outspoken and witty and snarky and brave in order to be considered “complex” and have any value in a piece of media!!
TLDR; I got into a "discussion" with a user I've responded to earlier in the day, and I'm frustrated because I was trying to have an open conversation however the other person is not willing to help me navigate the contextual space despite my obvious lack of knowledge on it.
I ain't gonna engage them further out of (genuine) respect for them and OP but:
No actual feedback that helps in terms of educating me as per my response to them.
Complaining about "subjecting them to more of what I have to say" despite the fact that they publicly posted this response to me on a public platform to be publicly viewed and responded to by the general public.
The condescending "respectfully" bow on top of this whole little package.
God what an asshole nothingburger of a response; it's genuinely a huge reason why I don't like to interact with internet activists, especially on tumblr of all places.
Giving way to let Black-led platforms speak is absolutely critical to promoting intersectionalism within socialist spaces (and also just online spaces in general). Part of the reason I support/follow creatingblackcharacters is because she's working to bridge that educational/perspective gap that many white people, including myself, experience (Go check her out btw, she's got a ton of awesome stuff).
Which leads me to the screenshot above—
The original topic was a poll (and by proxy) a discussion pertaining to the information. I was (and still am) curious as to the source of my exchange below; I want to learn and understand these things because I genuinely do want to try and improve my understanding pertaining to such issues.
At the same time, I still struggle with understanding how to ask these kinds of questions in such spaces, especially when I often combine my own contextual understanding of a situation with a question as a means of knowledge/informational adjustment.
I guess what I'm frustrated with this person because they provided a vague response without any willingness to follow up on it. Sorry that you wanted to be condescending, I fucking guess?
There's so many important Black people in my immediate life and I want to be able to advocate for them as much as possible. At the same time trying to learn about these things, at least in the online space (Black people irl have been incredibly understanding with me thankfully), feels like trying to navigate a dark space with someone who has a flashlight but doesn't want to use it because they're frustrated with me. I understand the root cause, but I still don't think it's the most effective method of solving the problem.

Black users! Have you ever experienced or witnessed antiblackness on this app?
Yes
No actually!
I'm not Black (yes you can press)
Voting ended on1h
By witnessing, I mean you saw someone else Black getting mistreated. Experiencing also doesn't have to be direct mistreatment of you, it can be scrolling and seeing whitewashing, misused AAVE, anything that you saw and did The Sigh™ to.
(Note: I’m incorporating the caveat that I have not witnessed antiblackness outside of Ice’s blog)
Personally for me I suspect that it has to do with a combination of a couple of things:
1. I’m incredibly liberal with the block button, which may result in a lot of obnoxious/racist users getting swept up in there for other reasons outside of antiblackness.
2. I tend to avoid fandom spaces like the plague. Given what I’ve observed pertaining to Ice’s refusal to discuss a certain kinds of media with large fandoms (MLP, TADC, Sonic, etc.) out of concern of attracting *those* kinds of people, I’m wondering if that’s a primary contact point for a lot of other users that have observed antiblackness.
3. I have a wide array of things that I reblog, meaning the tumblr algorithm is too busy shitting itself half of the time to present me with stuff involving antiblack behavior.
4. I probably have actually witnessed antiblack sentiments on this website. Given that I am autistic as fuck though, I struggle to discern between users being genuinely antiblack and troll bots being troll bots (speaking of which, are we counting those for the poll’s sake?) This might also factor into me not being able to interpret a person’s intent in a way that allows me to automatically discern it as antiblackness.
5. I don’t really interact with people on social media that often, which might prevent me from fully entering spaces where such issues are present.
EDIT: 6. I also reblog a chunk of black positive stuff so there’s a chance the tumblr algorithm is filtering antiblack stuff out automatically.
Once again these are all more theories than anything. I could also just simply be. Dense as hell. That being said, even if I have not directly perceived/processed antiblack behavior, I’m willing to trust the black community when they mention it‘s a big problem and side with them accordingly.
I think you should consider you are not as aware of what antiblackness looks like and how it manifests as you might think you are, because "the algorithm doesn't see me" and all the rest of what you listed out is not the take you think it is.
And by "consider", I mean sit quietly with your thoughts. We don't need a response.
I absolutely agree that as a white user, I'm not familiar with antiblackness looks like; that still doesn't mean that I still cannot have theories (even stupidly incorrect ones) as to why that is.
As for "sit quietly with my thoughts", that is something I am going to have to respectfully argue. I am genuinely interested in learning/educating myself on signs of antiblackness and, while following blogs like these are a start, I am clearly very much in the dark on what to look for. Sitting quietly with my thoughts is what led me here, and clearly that "here" is an incorrect mental framework to perceive these kinds of issues from.
I am incredibly open to learn about these, however I am also very prone to making mistakes. Any feedback regarding the flaws in my (one again incorrect) theories would be greatly appreciated as if would allow me to develop my abilities in the future.
I can only imagine the exasperation that comes from struggling to educate the broader white populace. If there's anything I can do to assist that, I'm more than willing to be an advocate; that being said I need to learn and understand the knowledge I'm incorporating first.
