Happy December!

I was an imperfect flower. I was incapable of widen my torns when they step on me.
I was an imperfect flower. They told me so after seeing my shredded crown.
I was an imperfect flower. The bugs never walked across my pale leaves. “It is too greasy and weak,” they said.
I was an imperfect flower. That was what I believe in, until The Sun visited me.
“You know, they told me the same thing when they see my shine.” We smiled.

Pamit
Dulu Ayah berbisik
Ayah pamit sebentar ya Nak
Jaga Ibu baik-baik ya Nak
Lalu jubah putihnya pun lenyap
Nak, dengarkanlah gesekan rerumputan
Nikmatilah damainya binar rembulan
Dari sanalah sayang kita tersampaikan
Meski darat dan laut memisahkan
Sekarang kembang kecil bermekaran
Tubuh Ibu telah tertidur damai
Namun tak sedikit pun jubah putih itu terlihat
Ayah sampai kapan engkau pergi?

Raib
Lihat pelupuk mataku
Rimbun akan pepohonan
Bagaimana bisa, tanyamu
Terlalu lama menangisimu, mungkin
Rasa kita 'kan selalu berpadu
Dan cinta tak 'kan pernah layu
Itulah janjimu merdu
Sebelum meminta ampun dengan sayu
Banyak jalan terhampar di tanah
Tetapi mengapakah, oh Sayang
Dihempasnya kita ke jalan ini malah
Mengais harap raib melayang
Waktu hangus 'tuk merenung
Berpisah kah satu-satunya jalan?

“halo manusia.
apa yang kamu lakukan
di dalam kubangan lumpur ini?
tidakkah kau ingin
melihat bangkitnya sang raja
dari balik bukit?”
“tidak, tuan penyu.
sudah cukup realita menyiksaku.
menekanku tanpa kenal lelah.
hingga kematian terasa sisa
sejengkal.”
“jadi kamu membiarkan trauma
menjerat tanganmu
agar tak menyentuh cahaya?”
“paling tidak, aku akan
menunggu sampai
ada yang menyuruhku keluar.”
“wahai manusia.
ingatlah akan satu hal.
seribu teriakan pun yang kau dapat
tidak akan membuatmu bangkit
jika tak ada kemauan.
miliki kemauan. miliki keyakinan.
miliki keberanian.
aku tahu kamu bisa.”
—E. N. 28 Feb ‘20
batin terasa lumpuh
menatap celah yang tertutup
untuk harapan.
menatap hancurnya jembatan
yang telah kita bangun bersama.
tetapi jika memang ini yang terbaik.
aku siap belajar ‘tuk bangkit
menjinjing semua keterpurukan,
kembali tersenyum lebar,
dan membangun semuanya kembali tanpamu.
—E. N. 28 Feb ‘20
ketika kugenggam kedua tanganmu
dengan cincin terpasang indah di jari manis.
dan darah berdesir cepat
saat ku menatap wajahmu yang bersemu malu.
kini aku pun tahu
bahwa kamu adalah jantungku.
—E. N. 28 Feb ‘20
memang jika kau lihat,
buku album yang dibiarkan
di kamarku begitu saja itu
sungguh kusam dan berdebu.
tetapi kawan, tolong lihat wajahmu.
jauh lebih kusam.
jauh lebih suram tanpa kehidupan.
tetapi tak apa kawan,
ulurkanlah tanganmu.
karena aku akan menarikmu keluar
dari nama dia yang terdengar pilu.
dan akhirnya kita ‘kan menari bersama debu.

The best writing teacher I ever had wasn’t the one who taught me grammar and spelling. He wasn’t the one who taught me outlining and paragraph structure, nor was he the one who taught me about themes, motifs, and symbolism.
He said, “Wiggle your pencil.
Put the tip of your pencil to the paper and keep the eraser end wiggling.
If you have nothing to write, write that: I have nothing to write, I have nothing to write, I have nothing to write, I have nothing to write, and eventually, by force of boredom, something else will come out.”
We would take 30 - 45 minutes every day to ‘wiggle our pencils’ in our wide-ruled notebooks, during which time, he was silent except to remind anyone who stopped to keep that pencil moving.
I finished not one but two novel-length stories that year. It was fifth grade.
Wiggle your pencil.

“Darling darling, people
asking where you at.”
“I am flying,”
she answered.

to the moon,
to the path full of
scintillating hope.”
