I’m so fucking tired of people making these big pronouncements about fantasy genre conventions and tropes and they just reference Tolkien and Gygax and maybe Lovecraft, and just absolutely skipping entirely over Robert E Howard and Michael Moorcock! They have influenced sword and sorcery vastly more than HPL, and Gygax just lifted from them and it’s Vexing watching people lecturing about the subject while avoiding these absolutely foundational writers
