I'm semi-speaking, but not in the way that a lot of people think of it.

I struggle with speaking all the time, but I still have mouthwords. I can still technically carry a semi-normal conversation, so that means that I'm fully verbal, correct?

Actually, no.

Along with having level 2 autism and experiencing significant communication barriers because of it, I also experience disorganized speech and thinking, brain fog, C-PTSD, severe (and I mean holy shit levels of severe) anxiety, and ME/CFS.

All of these things combined make communication really difficult for me. And those struggles, like I said earlier, never go away. They are always impacting and impairing me.

And while there are times where it's worse than others, I still have that baseline impairment of not being able to communicate, and that baseline is notably far lower than the "normal" person's baseline.

I think where I was originally going with this was to express frustration about how people view the different levels of autism and how it feels like they either stop seeing it as a spectrum past the very basics, or they (I'm talking about those kinds of lvl 1s, the ones who try to speak for every autistic person but leave out people who need more support) who push the idea that nobody is more autistic than anyone else, which while comes from good intentions, isn't true. There are more autistic people, but that doesn't erase the experience or disability of those with lower support needs. Autism is a disability, and just like any other disability, it disables some people worse. AND THAT'S OKAY.

To a lot of people, I would probably seem like a level 1 because there's this stereotypical black-and-white view of what each level looks like. And on this post, I'm only talking about verbility.
