Do you know how to go about getting diagnosed with an identity disorder? Like, what kind of doctors or whatever to talk to. I attempted to talk to my therapist when I had one about it, but all she said was that I was "too young" (I was around 17-18) and that because I'm so young, I still don't know who I am as a person.
Yeah okay. That's nice. But I genuinely don't feel like one person.
(and yes, I have experienced trauma, and I'm not one of those "oh wow DID looks fun! I have it now!" People, considering the amount of distress and stuff I get from this)
Sorry that this is so long 😭😭 you can ignore me too, if you want!!
Hi!!
Idk if it's the same in your area, but in mine, a therapist can't diagnose you with any disorders, you would need to talk to a psychiatrist. And in regards to getting a diagnosis, DID is one of those disorders everyone knows about, so if you directly say "I think I have DID" they tend to assume you're trendhopping (I learned that the hard way) so what I would recommend is (if you can) changing your psychiatrist (if they've ALSO given you issues) and when you discuss it, label off the symptoms of DID such as dissociation, memory loss, derealization, depersonalization, etc. and ACT like you don't know what it is, since they're far more likely to believe you if they think you don't already know about it. (It sucks, I know, mental health professionals are kinda assholes sometimes)
Best of luck!
