the āfuck canon everything is made up do whatever you want foreverā approach to fandom can be fun in small doses but i find that subscribing a little too hard to that attitude can lead to this belief that serious engagement with and analysis of a text is an act of no fun self-flagellation when that couldnāt be further from the truth. analysis is literally fun
even going āfuck canonā is more fun if you do the analysis. spite is a love letter and i have editorial comments
āDC stands for Disregard Canonā hits harder when it's the conclusion finally reached by a comic reader who has engaged with the original texts and beaten their head against the inconsistencies caused by decades of rotating writers/artists, many of whom see characterization as something to be thrown out when convenient
it means fucking nothing when invoked by someone as an excuse to cover for the fact that they've never read an actual comic in their lives and only knows the fanonized versions of characters from Tumblr AO3 and TikTok
the way some people talk about jews makes it sound like they just discovered the concept of human culture. āthey have a word for outsiders š”ā yes most people do
Something I find of some amusement is that the three such words I know off the top of my head all start with "G":
Goy
Gaijin
Gringo
Don't forget "gadje."
I feel like this calls for a Sesame Street episode.
The idea of having a special word to describe outsiders is utterly alien to the average American. All these foreign cultures having all these exotic terms, just to refer to strangers and outlanders? It's so uncouth!
Those damn foreigners have a word for foreigners
Not āOnly my reading of canon is correctā or āInterpretations are subjective and all validā but a secret third thing, āMore than one interpretation can be valid but thereās a reason your English teacher had you cite quotes and examples in your papers, you have to have a strong argument that your interpretation is actually supported by the text or it is just wrong and Iām fine with telling you itās wrong, actually.ā
If the text says the curtains are blue you can argue about what that means; but if youāre going to claim theyāre actually yellow youād better have a really good argument.
i know the curtains better than the author. thank you for coming to my ted talk
Fandom has such unresolved mommy/daddy issues about authors. If you apply a little reading comprehension skills to my original post youāll see I didnāt say anything at all about the author. You guys always make āinterpretationā about your beef with the author. Youāre all obsessed with the author. This post is just about deciphering what is there in canon. Figuring out what is being communicated by the canon itself with all the words and images and basic formal elements that are there in canon. Thatās all itās about. It really doesnāt matter if the author intentionally put all those things there in a pattern that might support the idea that this one characterās queer. Thatās not what this is about. What matters is if you can compellingly argue thereās a pattern of evidence there. Or not. Everyone is conspiring together to make me go insane still adding shit about authorial intent on my post.
The bipartisan push to remove anonymity from the internet is ushering in an era of unprecedented mass surveillance and censorship.
they are spinning up to try and pass KOSA a-fucking-gain, so we need to harass them swiftly and get them to knock it off
if you like any degree of anonymity on the internet, this has to be a priority

i keep seeing this cut off but the preceding āyessireeā is vital to it imo
my partner and i have become fixated on this stupid comment left by a conspiracy theorist on instagram and we can't stop saying it and i just know i'm gonna slip up and say it to a normal person
unexpectedly sexy part of the Sinners credits. we LOVE a thoroughly sourced film.
I'm gonna be super real, gang, the repeated assumptions in the replies that all of these people are autistic is uuuuh. I mean it's extremely inappropriate, if nothing else. and I'm also deeply concerned by the degree to which "autism" gets conflated with "academic expertise" on this website.
okay. unexpected interpretation.
did not think I'd have to clarify this but the issue is not "some autistic people don't have degrees" it's "behaving as if every knowledgeable person must be autistic is asinine behavior."

itās interesting how upset some people have gotten over negative things like homophobia and fatphobia being present in my writing. unfortunately Iāve had a life where those have been huge, shaping factors, and I like to talk about it. I was deeply anorexic for a number of years, and have had friendships and familial relationships deteriorate because of my queerness. being able to say āhey, this exists and it really, really sucks, now watch the fatphobic person get punched by a dragonā is kinda just what works for me, personally. I have a lot of feelings with nowhere else to put them, so my writing is always going to cater to my own catharsis.
I also want to push back against the idea that you can depict negative things like bigotry, so long as you also depict it being punished. thereās no Hays Code, and your story shouldn't have to be a children's fable with a moral lesson.
there's another book I've written that draws a lot from my own life (including verbatim conversations), and in it, not all the people with -isms get punished. some go on to live happy fulfilled lives, unaware of the damage they've sown, because that's often how it goes in real life. you're aware of the damage because you're inside the main character's head, and can you see how they've been affected, but that's it. no bigots getting punched by dragons this time. just one person learning how to live in a flawed society.

why is this post completely broken in every way imaginable
Broken notes⦠deactivated account⦠removed imageā¦.
Finally, we have them all.
In addition: OPās name is just⦠gone. No ā[insert username]-deactivated[insert a bunch of numbers]ā as is the standard for deactivated blogs.
Just the world ādeactivated.ā Look upon their post, ye mighty, and despair.
Itāll be almost impossible to find this post unless it wanders across your dash.
It wandered across mine. I shall help it travel forward.
this is not a place of honor
My rule of thumb with cooking and picky eaters is that I'm fine with people being picky, but I'm not ok with people lying about it. So if you've got a long list of things you can't or won't eat, give me the list, and I'm fine with cooking by it. Like literally just write a google docs with all your Yucky Ingredients on it and I can find a way to cook with whatever's left that isn't on the list.
But if you go "no I'm fine with anything it's ok I'll eat it :)" when I ask you what you will and won't eat, and once the food is on the table then you go "ew yuck it has Bad Ingredient, I can't eat this :(" I'm going to beat you with a frying pan.

Heaptober Day One. Just a lil late :)
Simon liked Alchemie because it was fun. There wasnāt really too much to his decision, it was just really cool. He got to help people, be appreciated, and have a life of his own. And he got to make things explode. It was fun, it was challenging, and it was his. There was no deeper meaning at all. Not that a Tincture could heal a wound in a second, or that he could make up for his mistakes by being good at something. Nope, it wasnāt that. Alchemie was like Magyk, but it was more thought out, more careful. Simon needed to be careful now, he knew he would fall again if he wasnāt. It was just fun.
I've seen more than 1 person say smth like everyone knew marcia was looking for a 7th son and like. Untrue!! Everyone THOUGHT marcia was looking for a 7th son. She just happened to get lucky but tbh I think if she didn't get along with septimus she would not have offered him the apprenticeship. She wanted someone who was good at magyk and also who she could stand to be around. So really what I'm saying is she was looking for a 2nd marcia but that's not the point my POINT is that I think if she had had any real interactions with simon I think he'd have had a really good chance at being her apprentice
