Indulge in the famous Levain Bakery chocolate chip cookies with this homemade recipe. These cookies have a crisp outer layer and a gooey, chocolatey interior.
Ingredients: 2 cups all-purpose flour. 1/2 teaspoon baking powder. 1/2 teaspoon salt. 1/4 teaspoon baking soda. 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed. 1 cup granulated sugar. 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed. 2 large eggs. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. 2 cups chocolate chips. 1 cup walnuts or pecans, chopped optional.
Instructions: Before you start cooking, heat the oven to 375F 190C. Mix flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda in a bowl with a whisk. In a different large bowl, mix the brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cubed cold butter until everything is well mixed. Adding the eggs one at a time and mixing them in is the next step. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ones one at a time and mix just until everything is combined. If you want to use them, add the chopped nuts and chocolate chips in last. Put the dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and cut it into large golf-ball-sized pieces. It's done when the edges are golden but the middle is still soft. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes. For a few minutes, let the cookies cool on the baking sheet. Then, move them to a wire rack to cool completely.
