“You need to believe in things that aren’t true. How else can they become” - Hogfather, Terry Pratchett
it’s seasonal lads
IT’S SEASONAL AGAIN LADS
‘Tis the season so I’ll reblog my absolute favorite Terry Pratchett quote ever
Happy holidays folks
welp
#The wisdom#The kind that sits on your chest heavily#And you don’t so much get over it as you learn to keep existing with its weight
It really says something that a lot of monogamous people consider polyamorous and aromantic to be "opposites" but every polyam person I know took one look at aromantics and said "they're just like me for real"
Poly folks x aro folks in the sense that "alloromantic heterosexual monogamous people view love and sex as an entirely different entity than me, and that makes life kinda strange"
official aro-polyam solidarity post
Might’ve already reblogged this but it needs to be said again
my most lukewarm take is that I don't think there should be any exemptions for vaccines, etc., beyond documented legit adverse medical shit that makes it physically impossible. like they should be free and required and nobody should be allowed to just choose to leave their child and any immunocompromised person they interact with vulnerable to potentially deadly but entirely preventable diseases and other medical conditions.
my lukewarm addition to this is that i think refusing your child vaccines is child abuse, just like refusing to feed them

printers behave like that because the medieval monks they put out of work are haunting them
happy odyssey weekend

Whenever they gave us one of those "read through ALL the instructions before you begin!" trick assignments in school where the steps lead you on an increasingly ridiculous goose chase until the final one tells you to just put your name on the paper and turn it in without doing anything else, I was always like, "Okay, but what's the point? Surely the REAL world won't be anything like this." And then I grew up and discovered that not only is the real world often exactly like that, some people won't even read the first line of the instructions even if they make perfect sense. And these people are called "co-workers"

Putting my head in my hands. So tired I did not even bring a spoon to the table.
Matt's heightened senses allow him to be Daredevil, and to do a number of other things that you would not expect of someone who is totally blind, but they don't – and here's the kicker – actually make him sighted. Part of the irony of Matt's peculiar condition is that if his senses actually did compensate for his blindness in any and all situations, he wouldn't have to "pretend to be blind" in the first place. The reason I'm saying that "my other senses more than compensate" is a logical fallacy is that it is true in some situations, not quite true in others, and not even a little bit true in others still. - The 50+ ways in which Marvel’s Daredevil reminds you that Matt is blind (for real)
"Some men will say I meant to kill my brother. The gods know it is a lie, but I will hear the whispers till the day I die."

okay am I too tired to make a meta post on it? yeah. I mean what is the use in arguing my points when it's likely no one's mind will change. (edit: I kept yapping)
all I'll say is that I find it weird how much people overinflate robby's poor treatment of trinity. like you want him to be evil to her sooo baddd. you want him, a male authority figure who she miraculously has a safe space in, to be evil to her. like sorry it feels weird. we can acknowledge that he didn't prepare her enough for langdon's return, or maybe he should've done more to truly report langdon, but trinity is also an autonomous adult who (in her words) could've done the same thing. robby is also not her father, he's her boss. he can't be responsible for all of her traumas.
but he still listened to her on that first day when no one else did, praised her for it, and was honestly the least harsh person. ellis with "the patient doesn't give a shit", heather with "they say cursing is a sign of intelligence— I say it's a sign of poor self control. but what the fuck do I know?" samira with "are you aware you have an aggressive energy?" and so on and so forth, and no I didn't forget langdon! langdon with yelling at her, demeaning her, badmouthing her to robby— which, if robby was as awful as yall say, robby would've listened to his favorite white boy about the brand new first day doctor woc and trinity would've been fired or at the very least, not believed.
robby checks in with trinity, he jokes around with trinity, he makes her feel comfortable. he believed her, believes in her, doesn't demean her or diminish her skills. praises her to baran. offers to have baran take over a possible triggering case, but listens and respects it when trinity insists upon doing it. he's generally good to her. they have a good working relationship. WORKING relationship. again. as much as I love fandom and "Robby Santos father daughterism" I feel like sometimes the reason Robby gets painted as oh so evil is because he doesn't coddle her as much as y'all think a father should. he is NOT her dad.
the fact of the matter is, is robby an extremely flawed individual? yeah. is he always the best boss? no. has he been good to trinity on many occasions? yes. does the subtext say he's generally a good boss to most of the individuals working at PTMC, trinity included? yes. we're seeing two days of these people's lives. but like idk, I'm sorry, it feels weird to want robby to be evil to trinity who's already had so much trauma at the hands of specifically male authority. I'm glad he's in her corner. I'm glad she feels comfortable around him. is it perfect? no. but it's not nearrrrr as bad as people make it out to be.
