this recent trend of teenagers using genAI chatbots to talk to fictional characters is fucking grim. what you should be doing is roleplaying on private messages with your friends until the lines between you & the characters begin to blur & you develop some very complex & confusing feelings for each other that culminate in a massive fallout you dont have the tools to process nor understand

critiquing the ways that media + fans treat certain categories of characters and dynamics is something that can be both cathartic and useful but in terms of actually changing the culture, even if just on a local scale, i don’t think we can overstate the impact of expressing sincere and genuine enjoyment of those characters

like, say you haven’t historically been into f/f but you get into a thing and there are a bunch of fans talking about the f/f dynamics, making jokes and fanart, doing analysis, all that good stuff. there’s a chance you’ll be like hey wait a minute, these folks are onto something here that i wasn’t picking up on before, let’s check this out. and even if you don’t i still think there’s a benefit to the passive absorption of the idea that the dynamics between women are worthy of the same fandomization of those between men
