Because a new one was long overdue and I don't want anything relating to that oc showdown blog as my pinned anymore
And I figured it'd be fun if I answered some questions still because I'm sure plenty of people by now have gone;
"Sege I thought this was the Sonic brainrot always blog, what the hell is all this Pokemon Gurren Lagann stuff going on?!?"
At the end of summer 2024 I rewatched Gurren Lagann for the first time since 2011. And then the brainrot took hold. The difference between me in 2011 and me in 2024 is that I can draw humans and anime men now. Which means I can just keep making my own stuff for this anime that's been over for almost two decades--
At the same time my dormant Pokemon obsession finally became active again for the first time in like 2 years. And it became VERY active. So Gurren Lagann did what it does best and combined with the reignited Pokemon hyperfixation rather than being pushed out by it.
It didn't help that I was being enabled via my friend @/riftclaw who's had a long time Pokemon au xe is now writing and went "Kamina and Simon can be canon to my au" (I originally intended for it to be an au of an au)
You should go read the stuff xe has out for the au so far btw I love it and it's part of what threw me face first back into pokemon GO READ IT
Anyway obv these are not my OCs so it's not like I have written out lore here or have OC memes to reblog and answer questions for. So I'm gonna answer some questions under the cut as a sort of FAQ as to what's wrong with me lately and what's going on with these au versions bc I think they'd be fun to answer.
AU FAQ under readmore
What are Simon and Kamina doing in your friend's Pokemon au??
Chilling-- shdHSGDHS. Ok in-univers they're just regular(ish) dudes that were born in that world. The irl reason? My sudden Gurren Lagann hyperfixation happened simultaneously as my Pokemon one. And I'd spent like all year reading snippets of the fic Blake was working on, along with worldbuilding for it.
In that au's lore, a lot of the people in Blackthorn are dragon hybrids. This results in them having naturally occurring bright red hair, or blue hair. They also have some dragon-esque traits like fangs or sharp teeth. The Tatsumi family (Lance's and Clair's family) have red eyes.
The red eyes given are EXACTLY like the ones Kamina has in canon. So while juggling these two hyperfixations I was like "Haha hey Blake you know how Kamina gets drawn with fangs in canon super often, has red eyes, blue hair, and an affinity for capes? What if I made an au of your au where he's Lance's and Clair's brother" and then Blake was like "He's canon TO the au now" and the ball kinda got rolling from there (Thank u Blake)
Simon is also a hybrid tho not a dragon one. There's a town in the au that gets literally wiped off the map because of an earthquake/massive sinkhole. So I plopped Simon in there to keep his earthquake trauma. Even tho they're not from the same town, Kamina and Simon still find each other and Kamina takes him in to Blackthorn after the town's disaster happens and Simon loses his parents in it.
Extra bit of info: Kamina's full name in this au is Kamina Tatsumi, and Simon's is Simon Takashi. I know it's popular fanon to give them the last names of Jiha/Giha since other characters in canon have their last names be the villages they came from. But I don't subscribe to this since they tried so hard to get AWAY from their village I don't think they'd adopt it into their names, so I got Simon a whole new last name even tho this is an au.
Are other Gurren Lagann characters in this AU?
PROBABLY although they would be background/side characters since Kamina and Simon are what I focus on here. They have a whole wide world to exist in so they could be out and about. Like I can't imagine Simon NOT meeting up with and eventually dating Nia. If Kamina gets to live then she should get to live too. She'd probably be a fairy hybrid of some sort because I mean. Look at her.
Kittan might be somewhere out there too as a friend Kamina occasionally meets up with and bickers with, kind of like a rival. I don't think he'd be a hybrid because I think it's funny how in episode 4 when Kamina met him he was like 'SHOW ME YOUR TEETH SO I CAN SEE THAT THEY'RE FLAT AS PROOF YOU'RE NOT A BEASTMAN' like he doesn't frequently get drawn with fangs.
Tl;dr: Yes the other GL characters could potentially be out there even if my focus isn't on them. It's a big world out there and Kamina and Simon are traveling it, so they're meeting all sorts of people all the time.
Ok but Sege you appear to have gone insane over Adaman/Kamina? How did this happen? Is it a crackship?
This is not a crackship-- at least not by the og definition. Nowadays it seems to get used as a term for 'a ship that isn't canon' but the og definition meant 'silly unserious joke ship'.
Adaman/Kamina is canon to the au and is treated completely seriously.
Did I mean for it to happen? Nope! It was another case of 'author does the writing and then the character end up doing whatever they want instead of anything that was planned for'
In this au Kamina is the one that ends up living through the events of Legends Arceus-- except unlike in the game he gets to bring himself and Ingo home after fighting Arceus.
To me Adaman is bisexual af, and I figured he'd have a crush on Kamina. It was meant to be silly-- Kamina is an acearo that hasn't found the words for it because he's just not focused on that. He's focused on Pokemon and battling and traveling the world. He's oblivious to a lot of advances. So Adaman runs into a lot of situations where Kamina's absolutely dense about how he feels.
But then I was like 'well. Adaman is impatient, and he's got no lack of confidence. I don't think he'd keep these feelings to himself for the entirety of Kamina's stay in Hisui'
And things kinda spiraled from there because then we have Kamina, who's been stuck in Hisui for a couple months or so at that point. The Pokemon team he's familiar with-- some of which he's grown up with, isn't there. There aren't even that many dragon types in Hisui for him to speak to and be himself around (he's hiding the whole dragon thing given how the people of Jubilife are around Pokemon alone)
He's been separated from his family and friends. Ingo and Adaman are the people he hangs around the most, and some of the only people that know (save for a few other Diamond clan members that were there when Adaman himself found out)
He's got no people to be around most the time, no one to really let in his personal space. And as someone that's grown up with a bunch of siblings and then gone on to make a bunch of friends, that's a big thing for him.
He's lonely af, so when Adaman confesses by kissing him, he gives in to that. They end up with a sort of arrangement where they both get affection for different reasons. And then it starts deepening beyond that. It's queerplatonic rather than a strict romance, so what that means to them fluctuates through the story. All the while they're keeping it a secret just so it doesn't seem like the guy who fell from the sky is playing favorites with one of the clans over the others.
But by the nature of how Legends Arceus would end if there was an option for the player to go back from wherever Arceus plucked them from, it does mean that they get separated in the end. They know this will happen but they stay with each other until the end anyway.
They move on with their lives, but they do end up reunited even though it's years down the line
Anyway that's why I've been insane lately SHDGSHDHHSD. Will add more stuff if I think of any or get asked

I need like another week of vacation just to sit at home and talk about Pokemon Gurren/Geoverse and to watch Blake talk Geoverse lore and for us to answer asks, and to play video games at the times that no one is online

MMMMM NOW IM THINKING ABOUT HOW LOTTIE WOULD FEEL ABOUT HYBRIDS/POSTHUMANS. human and pokemon. he’d probably get along with them better than most other humans (in general), especially if his powers work on them to a degree
(I like to think that A Lot of his distrust for humans was born from his inability to feel another person’s emotions. pokemon feel so much all the time, and humans are just… voids. he’s completely blind to their intentions in a way he never is with pokemon, and that’s Scary)
yeAH in that way Kamina (esp Crimson Dragon) is probably a bit overwhelming. The guy has intense af emotions 😭 But at least he also tends to be direct with what he feels vocally. Unless ofc it's about emotions aimed towards Himself that he doesn't like or that may indicate he isn't feeling fine
I wonder if Lottie would think the whole plagues thing was a good thing For humans even though it was absolutely devastating. Like I know a pre-niceys Lottie would think it was great for decimating the human population and bringing Pokemon into being. But I wonder if any of them would feel like 'no this is a good thing that happened to you, you should be happier this way' about any humans affected
oooooo i think he’d be pretty conflicted on it, actually!
while his actions are absolutely cruel in nature, they weren’t done out of a desire to be cruel. like when he’s trying to push kamina’s buttons he’s absolutely going about it in a way that is cruel, but he’s not doing it because he wants to hurt kamina. he’s trying to figure him out, to best protect himself and his pokemon, and just can’t accept that maybe this person doesnt want to hurt him so it comes out meaner than he meant it to, which only feeds into his initial belief that humans are innately bad
he wants to end humanity to protect pokemon. to stop them from suffering, because like 90% of the suffering he’s seen in pokemon was caused either intentionally or unintentionally by humans. of course murder is still murder and he’s definitely guilty of killing people in that explosion, but if it was only about revenge or an eye for an eye, he would have been going around killing people slowly and painfully in the same ways he’s seen pokemon suffer. he wouldn’t be a relatively unknown guy
instead what he chooses to do is ask lugia to basically thanos snap humans out of existence. it would be quick. he wants humans gone because he’s come to believe that humans and pokemon simply can’t live together, not because he wants humans to suffer. when yellow gets away from him that first time he doesn’t hunt her down. it’s a matter of choosing sides, and he knows which one he’s on. might as well have some fun with it to cope going so far down a fucked up path. but killing off an entire species IS cruel, especially to the pokemon who love their trainers, to the people who’s lives are cut short. his entire purpose in life is to protect and tend to the inhabitants of the viridian – this is simply what he considers to be the best way to do so
all that to say, lottie probably would consider the aspect of the plague that created hybrids and post humans to be something that should be appreciated, moreso the younger he is. but I don’t think he would actually SAY that out loud, because a plague is a slow, painful death, and he can sympathize with that. that’s not the kind of thing he wants to put anyone through. there might be a bitter feeling of ‘take that, do you understand now?’, though
that being said, he does know diseases. he knows they Aren’t Good. he’s seen sick Pokemon who’ve lost their ability to feel pain before, and who tear themselves to pieces feeling great. he’s experienced the memories of pokemon who’ve lived through all sorts of different illnesses. he knows that being stronger for surviving isn’t necessarily a good thing. he’d probably have a lot of trouble reconciling two conflicting views of the plague.
then there’s also the factor that in his universe, hybrid traits like in geoverse weren’t caused by a devastating extinction event. the dragon clans probably ended up with fangs and talons because they were blessed by one of the dragon legendaries. no one had to suffer to get them. he probably wouldn’t feel great that arceus is using what he considers to be a blessing to punish people (even though that was an unintended side effect right? I think I remember that people becoming hybrids wasn’t intentional, just interesting to arceus)
and in the end – does becoming part pokemon change a person’s nature? if he believes that humans are inherently evil and that there’s no changing that, then is introducing that evilness to pokemon through hybrids a good thing? maybe not. once he starts changing his mind about human nature itd probably get reeeeeeally complicated for him lol
if humans cannot help but be bad then do they deserve to be pokemon? but if humans ARENT inherently bad, then why would being a pokemon be such a bad thing?
tbh i would be very curious how lottie would deal with the fact that legendaries in geo are explicitly not gods and can't do things like blessings/don't have enough power to pull off what he wanted lugia to do. Like maybe in a few hundred years, but definitely not in the lifetimes of kamina and co.
but yeah geo's arceus (who i nicknamed pestilence bc it's funny) had no idea hybrids would happen; DXZ is an intelligently designed virus that's meant to convert life on a planet into either pokemon themselves or the food they need to survive. A viral terraforming tool. when it hurled the rock carrying the virus towards the earth, it didn't even know earth had more than basic lifeforms on it.
Pestilence is kind of a biological imperative to ensure its offspring's survival in living form. It didn't look at earth and go "wow these people suck and need to be punished", it was merely thinking that this was a good new planet to establish pokemon life on before setting the wheels in motion and walking through the door to the next universe.
and i think the conversations between someone who DOES come from a universe where arceus is deified and people who come from a universe where it's almost universally known as the destroyer of worlds because of a lack of attention would be really interesting

have a chunk of the 1st chapter draft of the still untitled projected to be 44 chapters fanfic i've been writing
Despite what he’d told Lance when the dragon tamer had left, Gold wasn’t really feeling a hundred percent. His mental barriers seemed intact, but everything was still just that little bit too… loud. Perhaps it was time to look at the dosage for the haloperidol, or consider switching to one of the newer atypical antipsychotics.
Still, he had work to do. And a gym challenge to schedule. So Gold peeled himself out of bed, got dressed, and headed down the road to the pokémon centre.
“Oh, hey,” Pepper chirped, looking up from the monitor as Gold stumbled through the door and let out a loud growl, “feeling any better?”
“Yeah, fine. Mostly,” Gold lied, rubbing his face as he hobbled towards the desk. “I gotta do the papers. Mind if I borrow the office PC?”
“Knock yourself out.”
Gold gave her a thumbs up, limped past the desk and ducked into the office.
Pepper came to the door while he signed in to the record system. “Oh, I need to ask you to check up on Tatsumi for me now you’re up.”
“No, you don’t, he was still there when I woke up,” Gold said drily.
Pepper blinked. “Wait, really?”
“He felt bad.” Gold typed Lance’s name into the search bar, then clicked enter. “And apparently I kept trying to escape so I have to live with the knowledge that he let me purr into his chest for four days to keep me from doing that.”
“Oh my god,” Pepper whispered, before breaking out into laughter.
“Yeah, yeah, I know. I’m never going to live this down,” Gold muttered. “You were right about the TPI, by the way. It’d mostly cleared up by the time I woke up, but there were still traces of it lingering.”
“How’s he doing?”
“Better. Told him to take a half dose of the painkillers you gave him if he still felt crappy tonight but otherwise he’d be fine.” Gold tapped at the keys, filling out a follow-up report for the injury Pepper had reported earlier in the week. The embarrassment aside, it was lucky Lance had stayed. Being one of the only psychic nurses who travelled meant that Gold would likely have had to drive himself up to Blackthorn or even Indigo for the check up. “Oh, and uh, I wrote him a script for some sedatives. We talked a bit about his sleeping habits and he told me he had pretty bad nightmares.”
“Not much of a surprise, really,” Pepper said, folding her arms and leaning against the door frame. “I can’t imagine he’d be so difficult to treat if he wasn’t traumatised.”
“Mm.” Gold finished writing the last few details about the radio signal damage, flagged the report for review by the psychic department in Saffron, and saved it to the server. He glanced at the notes left from past treatments. “I agree with your note, by the way. He wasn’t aggressive with me at all, even when I was deliberately provoking him. Poor guy is just really scared and I don’t think the docs are paying enough attention.”
“I was kind of surprised to see he rarely comes to pokémon centres when he’s hurt,” Pepper admitted. “He growled at me once for pushing him too far, but when I backed off he was really apologetic.”
Gold hummed thoughtfully. “I think, when he does get hurt, it’s usually serious, or he’s trying to manage the more minor injuries on his own.” Gold could still picture the fine scars on Lance’s right hand as he took the smoothie Gold had shared with him, faint traces of a long-healed burn that wrapped up his wrist under the jumpsuit sleeve. Minor burns were one of the easiest cosmetic fixes they could provide at a pokémon centre.
“Think he’s just patching it up with pokémon-grade potions?”
“If he is I really hope he knows he’s gotta be sparing with them.” Gold shook his head, then scanned through the log. Lance was a local celebrity, so most of what was there was already common knowledge among the Greater Tohjo Region’s nurses, but… well, nurses didn’t take patients, not the way doctors did. Gold could only offer and hope Lance felt brave enough to reach out.
