yo huge fucking reminder that TJD / “total joyous day” or any other positive word that start with J is a NAZI DOGWHISTLE
TJD stands for total Jewish death .
TKD / “Total kind day” / any other positive word variations that start with k is another NAZI DOGWHISTLE.
It stands for total [Jewish slur] death. please keep looking out for people saying these words.
t[x]d is almost always a nazi dogwhistle! Totally [x] day is always a nazi dogwhistle. There's also tnd (total n-word death) and tgd/trd (total g-slur death/total roma death) that I'm aware of
But there must be more
Last night I was talking to my boyfriend, and I couldn’t think of the word ‘library’, so I said ‘book ranch’. He thought it was hilarious and started making up alternative names for ‘librarian’.
“Cowbook! Like cowboy! No…Readcher? Like Rancher? No, fuck this is hard…”
and just now I heard him yell “BOOKAROO” from the other end of the apartment in the most triumphant tone of voice i’ve ever heard
“Howdy, pardner. Name’s Tex. Biblio Tex.”

Ella Fitzgerald in the midst of a soulful performance at Mr. Kelly's nightclub in Chicago, Illinois, ca. 1958.
they weren’t kidding when they said the only way out is through
surprisingly forward-thinking of jim henson and co. to make a female character in the 70's that's allowed to be loud-mouthed and violent and kind of overwhelmingly romantic and even a huge bitch at times and not have a moment where any character asks her to change
going through all the muppet movies in a row made me realize that like. miss piggy was made in the 70's. and it's so rare even today to have a character like her. she's loud, she's selfish, she's funny, she's extremely vain, she's obsessed with romance, she's violent, she's kind of annoying, and there's not a single moment in any of these films where she's asked to tone down any of these personality traits. i am not joking when i say that miss piggy might be one of the best treated female characters ever written

I think one thing about Holocaust studies is the struggle to grasp the sheer scale of the murders.
Reading @historicity-was-already-taken's Girl Bandits of the Warsaw Ghetto, and the bits that cite large numbers of people killed - and I'm frantically running the math in my head and trying to picture it.
The massacre at Babi Yar [Ukraine] lasted thirty-six hours between September 29 and 30 [1941]; thirty-six hours, in which the Einstazgruppen murdered approximately 33,700 Jews.
On average, that's a little under a thousand people murdered an hour.
July 22nd to Sept 27th, 1942 - 68 days -
According to both Jewish underground and official Nazi accounts, the Nazis murdered between 275,000 and 310,000 Jews -- in Treblinka and in the streets of the Warsaw Ghetto -- between July and September 1942. [Exact dates taken from earlier in the chapter]
That's between 4,044 and 4,558 murdered per day.
The best way I have for visualizing large groups of people is theatre venues. Because I worked in theatre for so long, and know the capacity of each venue I worked at, I can picture it full and say ok, this is 200 people, this is 3,000 people.
And yet. Picturing a filled venue, and it's only a tiny drop in the bucket of how many people were killed even in individual killing events in the Holocaust--
I don't know how Holocaust education can really impress this on people. Because the scale is just beyond what a person can imagine and hold in their head.
Yad Vashem's Book of Names might be the best imagery we have.
This is why I’ve taken to referring to the Holocaust as a mosaic of individual events, as opposed to one big one. That makes it easier to absorb than just sitting with the “six million” figure.

Last year, I befriended a Catholic seminarian. We've gotten to be pretty decent friends. Seeing as he was staying in town for the summer and I wasn't, I entrusted him with caring for my plant.
He did a wonderful job, but as he was returning my plant to my custody, he explained "I watered her every other day, I gave her new dirt, moved her into the sunshine, prayed the rosary-"
"What?"
He looked at me, confused. "Isn't she a plant you pray with?"
"No," I said slowly. "She's a prayer plant. That's the... colloquial name of the plant."
Upon seeing his stricken face, I realized something went wrong. Turns out, this entire time, he's been including my plant in on his prayers and leaving her near icons.
Listen, totally cool. My plant becoming Catholic is a great deal for her not dying over the summer. But now I must navigate this interfaith household. Keep me in your thoughts.
sorry it’s actually so fucking crazy thinking abt how certain places have banned burqinis like literally making a woman take her clothes off in public like that shit is so fascist
genuinely horrific like that’s law mandated sexual assault & we just let it happen. hello. can anyone hear me.
Honestly very funny how many Robin Hood adaptations deploy Richard Lionheart as a deus ex machina.
Like, "We don't know how to end this story? Uhhhhhhhhhh QUICK deploy Richard!" Like my man may have spent as little as 6 months of his reign in England. He's busy on his terrible Crusades. He may not even have spoken English. He does not caaaaare about Nottingham. Delightful

This month people have been tearing Flock cameras off their poles.
This month people have been tearing Flock cameras off their poles. Perched above public streets, they are birdlike things, weatherproof, and they photograph every passing car and file it in a searchable national database. Somebody cut two of them in half at Washington Avenue and Westcott in Houston, spray-painted the wreckage, and left an American flag on one of them. Police were notified on the morning of the Fourth of July. Somebody severed a camera in Rutherfordton, North Carolina. The police department posted the photograph itself and collected more than twenty thousand comments. “Not all heroes wear capes.” “Give them a medal.” Here is what the cameras do when nobody cuts them down. Cops use them to hunt immigrants and to follow ICE targets across state lines and to find women who ended pregnancies in states where that is a crime and to watch exes and to watch women they want, without a warrant and without a judge. A cop types a reason in a box and the box does not check. A man in Burleson, Texas, told deputies his girlfriend had taken abortion pills. He showed them the photographs, the FedEx envelope, the instructions. Deputies opened a death investigation into a non-viable fetus, and the district attorney told them the state could not charge her, and they searched anyway: 83,345 cameras across 6,809 networks, a month of everywhere she had been. The reason they typed was had an abortion, search for female. The search reached Illinois and Washington, where what she did was legal. They found her in Dallas. She came into the sheriff’s office a week later, and they thought she had come to explain the fetus, and she had come to report that the man who called them had put a gun to her head. A sheriff in Jerome County, Idaho ran his wife’s plate more than seven hundred times in three months. He typed the same reason every time. Test. The attorney general found nothing to charge him with. He retired in April. The Institute for Justice counts at least twenty-two officers who used the system to track people they were romantically interested in, and calls that almost certainly an undercount. And the cameras keep falling.
Become ungovernable.

As much as I think it would be fun to have emotive anthropomorphic ears, I also recognize I can barely control my facial expressions. Like hell can I keep from Angry Ears-ing during meetings
This is who you’re having a meeting with, by the way.
“let’s run away together” trope fucks me up bc it’s almost always doomed. but what if it’s not this time.
