Hey, if anyoneβs curious, this IS making a serious impact β this handbook was taught as standard practice for my EMT license course, as well as several other programs. A lot of new providers are being taught this as a matter of course.

is your catholic plant called dorothea or theodora?
Dorothea is my prayer plant-- her sister the orchid is theodora. I apologize for the confusion LOL
Meanwhile, via Bluesky...
And here is the resulting image. There is at least Someone in the U.K. government who is actually doing their job, and it is Chief Mouser to the Cabinet, Larry the Cat.

Typical politician: delivering a single campaign promise years late, overbudget, and subsequently using it as a flashy distraction
To those following my Dorothea saga, I want to heartily apologize. I mixed up my children. Dorothea is the prayer plant, and Theodora is the orchid.
I see so many people saying shit like "the way fandoms behave makes me really nervous to write the story I want to write, what if my fandom sucks" and I just want to sit down with all of them and be like it's ok, you don't have to worry, you're not going to be famous
Last year, I befriended a Catholic seminarian. We've gotten to be pretty decent friends. Seeing as he was staying in town for the summer and I wasn't, I entrusted him with caring for my plant.
He did a wonderful job, but as he was returning my plant to my custody, he explained "I watered her every other day, I gave her new dirt, moved her into the sunshine, prayed the rosary-"
"What?"
He looked at me, confused. "Isn't she a plant you pray with?"
"No," I said slowly. "She's a prayer plant. That's the... colloquial name of the plant."
Upon seeing his stricken face, I realized something went wrong. Turns out, this entire time, he's been including my plant in on his prayers and leaving her near icons.
Listen, totally cool. My plant becoming Catholic is a great deal for her not dying over the summer. But now I must navigate this interfaith household. Keep me in your thoughts.
#i love prayer plants but they're fussy so I don't keep them#can we have a picture op they're so pretty
Behold, Dorothea
(Naming my plant "Gift of God," and then giving her to a seminarian with just the explanation that it's a prayer plant? Okay, that's my bad.)
I should also add- I ran into my rabbi and explained the situation. I then asked, earnestly, if there was a remedy. A mikveh of sorts, or a beit din, or something.
He turned to me, sighed, and said in a very deadpan tone-- "Plants don't have covenants, Joy,"
So Dorothea's a free agent according to rabbinic opinion. I guess I'll permit her to be Roman Catholic.

Blessings for a good week, a safe and peaceful week, and may all the plans of our enemies fail.

this last shabbat, Rav David nearly ousted me out of his house for calling "Jinx" on my friend. His very longwinded explanation while pushing me towrds the door was as follows "Jinx comes from the Greco-Roman and other Pagan traditions, most closely to the word iynx , which is a bird. Not JUST a bird but a sorcery magic bird. The sorcery then got tied to knocking on the wood, which represents the crucifix. So the combination of the two is problematic. And honestly? It's just stupid? It's not even cool? Why are you knocking over my grape juice so you can one-up your friend? If you're going to do it, at least demand a form of payment. Like coke." Luckily, he'd forgotten about his plan to kick me out in time for dessert.
Extra luckily, he still doesn't know it was me who stained his couch with wine three years ago.

hope all is well. your blog is a bright spot in this world.
All is good!! I am MIA because of a rather intensive internship, but will hopefully get back to regular programming soon! The internship is going wonderfully. It's the mix of a learning experience, genuinely helpful things for a community, and pretty life-changing stuff.
thank you for checking in and hope all is well with you :)))
My local minyan takes intentions for brachas, and I submitted the request for my glasses to be found as a joke.
I now have three grandparents emailing me everyday, right after prayer , asking --"so did it work yet? Did you find them? We won't stop till they're found."
Update -- I found them! In the fridge .
