The forecast said it was supposed to be a sunny day, so you decided to take a run around the track as your morning warm up.
You got on your track pants and a plain t-shirt as you realized that those were your only clean clothes, you made a mental note to yourself to do your laundry once you got back as you headed out of your room towards the track.
After about two laps you looked up at the sky and noticed some grey clouds rolling in but you shrugged it off assuming that they would just pass by since âthe forecast said it would be sunny todayâ but oh boy were you mistakenâŚ
After your fifth lap, all of a sudden it started pouring down rain, like pouring down.
âBut the forecast said it would be sunnyâŚâ you thought as you let out a heavy sigh and trudged back inside the base. Once you entered the base again in your drenched clothes you remembered that those were your only clean clothes and that you would have to wait in them while you cleaned your dirty clothes.
You were making your way to your room, walking up the stairs to your floor but once you got to your floor, youâre Captain -Gen Narumi- almost ran straight into you.
âAh [Last Name]! Hide me!â
âNARUMI!â You could hear Hasegawa shout for your Captain from the other end of the hall way and Narumi yelped as he ducked behind you.
âOh hello [Name],â Hasegawa took a pause to look you up and down âare you⌠okay?â
You let out another sigh âIâm⌠fine.â You said hesitantly
âWell I just need Narumi and you can be on your way Platoon Leaderâ
You could feel Narumi cringe behind you and his grip tighten on you wet shirt. As Hasegawa picked him up by the collar of his shirt he wrapped his arms around your waist and clung on.
âNo [Last Name] donât let him take me to that awful meeting!â Narumi pleaded with you as a last ditched effort
âCaptain Narumi have you no dignity?!â Hasegawa raised his voice as he dropped Narumi
âOf course I do, Iâm a Captain after all!â
âWith all due respect Captain you arenât exactly acting like itâŚâ you spoke up
âYes, Captains donât cling to their subordinates to get out of meetings or ask them for money!â Hasegawa continued to scold Narumi as he stood up but still had one hand clenching your shirt in case Hasegawa tried to drag him off again.
âVice Captain, if this doesnât concern me can I leave? I need to scavenge for a clean pair of clothes.â You asked Hasegawa once he seemed to be done scolding your Captain
âYes [Name] you may leave, apologizes for dragging you into thisâ Hasegawa nodded to you and you nodded back but as you started walking in the direction of your room you felt resistance tug on your shirt. You looked down to find Narumiâs hand still there and your gaze went back up to his face where he looked at you like he was begging for his life
âCaptain⌠please let goâ
You heard Hasegawa let out a heavy sigh
âAlright Narumi, you have two options,â Hasegawa spoke up âeither your come to this meeting like your job entails, or you help Platoon Leader [Last name] with whatever they need today.â
It was an obvious choice for Narumi but you cringed at the idea of your Captain following you around while you do your laundry
âUh sir-â you were about to protest but Narumi released his hand from your shirt to move it to your wrist as he pulled you in the direction of your quarters
âLetâs go [Last name]!â Narumi yelled as he kept on pulling you to your room
You looked back at Hasegawa for help but he just sighed and nodded before walking in the opposite direction, to the meeting.
You turned your head back around and let out yet another sigh.
Suddenly Narumi stopped in the hall and turned to you
âSo, what happened to you?â
You dead panned and explained âI was out for a run when all of a sudden it started storming outside and I got soakedâ
âDid you not check the forecast?â
A vein appeared on your face after hearing him ask that âThe forecast said it would be sunny all day!â You raised your voice slightly
âAlright⌠well get some dry clothes and letâs goâ Narumi ordered you but you didnât move
âI donât have any clean or dry clothesâ you repeated
âWhat do you mean you donât have any clean clothes?â He asked
âAll of my clothes are dirty, these were my last pair of clean clothesâ you said while gesturing to the wet clothes you were wearing, which were still dripping on the carpet of the base
âYou didnât think to put them in the laundry before going on your run?â He asked annoyed
Seriously, this coming from the guy whose room looks like a tornado has a grudge against him.
âYouâre one to talk.â
Narumi looked flabbergasted at your sudden rudeness âIâll have you know I cleaned my room earlier this week!â He stomped his foot and put his hands on his hips while defending himself
Narumi sighed and hung his head âWell then come with meâ
You looked questioningly at him as he took hold of your wrist again and led you past your room and up the stairs
You had no idea where you were going until you both stopped in front of two double doors that reached from the floor to the ceiling, you were at his room.
âWhat are we doing here exactly?â
âYou can borrow a pair of my clothes.â Narumi opened the door to lead you inside as he replied.
After you stepped inside Narumi let go of your wrist and closed the door behind you both. You looked around the room, and it wasnât totally disgusting⌠there were Yamazon boxes starting to pile up in the corner and ramen cups and energy drink cans in the other, it did look like it was recently cleaned though. You tried your best to keep the look of disgust from forming on your face, so you looked over to Narumi where he was digging through a dresser and pulling out pieces of clothing. He grabbed a pair of clothes and started walking over, you just had to hope that they were cleaned⌠Preferably recently.
As he was about it hand the pair of clothes over to you, you felt your nose twitch, you quickly covered your nose and mouth with your elbow as you sneezed.
âUgh, youâre getting sick arenât you?â
âI wasnât outside for that long, Iâll be fine.â You tried to defend yourself, but you ended up sneezing again
âMaybe so, but how long have you been in those wet clothes of yours?â Narumi asked with a slight tone of distaste
âI donât know,â you got out your phone to check the time⌠an hour?! Had it really been that long? âAbout an hourâŚâ you answered sheepishly
Narumi let out a sigh and shook his head, âAlright this wayâ
Narumi placed a hand on your upper back as he led you to the other side of the room towards another door
He opened the door and flicked on the lights, and you were rather surprised to see a mostly clean bathroom.
Narumi let you go and walked over to a tall cabinet and fished out a towel, he placed the pair of clothes on the island sink and shoved the bath towel into your hands.
You looked at him completely dumbfounded and he could see your confusion on your face, so he let out a quick huff as he walked over to the bathtub and turned it on. He put his hand under the water for a second before deciding the temperature was good enough and flicked a switch to plug the drain. Narumi then stood up and wiped his hand off on his pant leg before pointing at the tub,
âC-Captain I couldnât possibly- â
Narumi didnât leave any room for argument so all you could do was nod nervously and wait for him to leave before getting in.
He walked past you and out of the bathroom while closing the door behind him. After doing so you set the towel on a hook next to the bath and mostly just stared at the running water before deciding it was full enough and stopping the water. You started to get undressed, first by peeling your shirt off, which had started to stick to your skin. But as soon as you did so you just had to be interrupted by Narumi walking in.
âYou getting in or wha- â
Narumi couldnât hear you get in the bath, so he decided to bully you into taking that bath, but his words caught in his throat as he saw your half naked figure. Your back was turned to him, but the sight was still too much for a recluse like him to handle.
You whipped your head around at the sound of your Captainâs voice entering the room. You could practically hear his words die in his throat as is eyes glued themselves to your body. Your face heated up instantly and you couldnât think of anything to say at this moment. You wanted to ask him what he was doing in here, but it was kind of his bathroom so that was off the table.
âYes CaptainâŚ?â You asked while sounding super tense
A deep shade of red immediately bloomed on Narumiâs face as he quickly averted his gaze from you.
âI-I just wanted to make sure you were still doing all rightâŚâ he muttered so quietly it was almost a whisper
âSeems l-like youâre fine so I-Iâll go now.â He backed out of the room while closing the door
âOkayâŚâ was all you could say as the embarrassment was slowly starting to settle in, you quickly peeled off the rest of your clothes and hopped in the bath and submerged your head under the water in order to refresh yourself and hopefully clear your mind.
As for Narumi, he had frozen for a second after closing the door but quickly snapped out of it and bolted for his futon on the floor. He curled up in the blanket while practically shaking out of embarrassment.
âI canât believe I just did that!!!â He shouted to himself in his head âI mean who opens the door on someone who is in the bathroom?! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!â
After washing up you got out and dried off before grabbing the clothes Narumi lent you. Thankfully he remembered a pair of underwear in the mix since the rain that soaked your pants also soaked your underwear as well.
Since this was Captain Narumi, you were talking about you had some doubts that the clothes were clean. You put the clothes each up to your nose and they smelled like the basic division laundry detergent, so you deemed them clean enough.
You put on the clothes Narumi lent you and dried your hair with a towel before stepping out of the bathroom.
âUhm Captain?â You looked around the now dark room for a sign of your Captain âShould I take my dirty clothes to the laundry now?â You asked to the dark room just hoping he would respond.
âJust put them in the laundry basket in thereâ
You could hear Narumi but not still couldnât see himâŚ
You tossed your dirty clothes and towel in the laundry hamper in the corner of the bathroom and turned off the light
"Narumiiiiâ you called out to the darkness of the room.
âMhm.â Was all you could hear from him,
âWhere are youuuâŚ?â
Narumi raised his hand to show you where he was and all you saw was his hand and some of his arm pop out from the futon on the floor.
You giggled at the sight and sat down next to him.
You asked while poking what you assume to be his head. Narumi pokes his head out from his blankets just enough for you to see his face.
âOf course Iâm fine, why wouldnât I be?â
You shrug at him trying to play dumb, or is he trying to play cool? Narumi takes a look at you now and his cheeks start to flush some more when he sees you in his shorts and one of his oversized t-shirts. Itâs not that theyâre oversized on you, itâs just that they are oversized in general.
âYou good?â He asks you this time.
âIâm perfectly fine. Thanks for letting me use your bathâ
âNo problem, wouldnât want there to be a kaiju attack where youâre too sick to fight.â Narumi tries to play off his concern for you as a general worry instead. But you can tell that he cares, even just a little bit.
Youâre a little sniffly even after that bath but you still get up to go do your laundry.
âAlright Captain, Iâve got to go do my laundry, Iâll see you later.â You try to leave with a little wave butâŚ
âOh no you donât!â Narumi shouts at you before reaching up and grabbing your arm then pulling you down to the floor with him. âYou arenât going anywhere like this!â
âHuh? Like what?â Youâre confused and quite shocked at your Captain's sudden move
âYouâre still not well, donât you think, that I canât hear you being all sniffly. Youâre staying right here until I think that youâre well enough to leave, alright?!â
At this point Narumi is hovering over you as he has pinned both of your arms to your sides. There isnât much you can do and you are way to flustered to think straight right now.
âGood.â is all Narumi says before he drapes the blanket over you and him. Narumi is facing you as he holds onto your arm to make sure that you donât try to get up.
Suddenly everything goes quiet and all you can hear is the stormy rainfall outside the base and Narumiâs soft breathing.
He seems to be quickly drifting asleep, and you are too. But as you fall asleep you canât help but stare at his handsome face.
âOh and,â you lift your eyes slightly as you hear Narumi speak up âyou can just call me Gen no need for âCaptainâ or âNarumiââ
Your eyes now go wide at hearing this, but they quickly soften as you look at his cheeks that have now been dusted in pink.
âAnd you can call me [Name]⌠Gen.â you say with your own flushed face and Gen finally cracks open his eyes to look at you
â[Name]â is all he says with a small smile on his face as he drifts off to sleep and you quickly follow suit while listening to the rainfall and Genâs soft sleepy breathing.
A/N: Sorry if this was sloppy, finals just ended Monday and I had to write a 2000-word research paper for AP Lang and I ended up writing 3700 words... so yeah, I'm a little burnt out.
