Everyone is watching Chancellor Palpatine’s big speech being rebroadcast on the holos, but across the galaxy soon-to-be parents are locked in a loop of inexplicable panic and going into rapid labour with (often preterm) Force sensitive children who come into this world stressed as all get out. Ezra was born amid dozens of others and spent weeks screaming inconsolably until the executions died down. When Luke starts looking for other Force users in the galaxy he discovers a statistically improbable number of his peers were born within a week of him. The trend even continues a few years down the line because Empire Day was always when the Imperials were terminating rogue Jedi and making big shows of force. It’s the weirdest version of “the best hockey players are born in January and February” ever. You know they’ve got the real high midichlorian count when their birthday is the day after Empire Day and a month before they were due.

And I think of the man who, upon seeing corruption right in front of him in the system he was apart of, his first response is to kill the superior officer who was apart of that corruption. Then when he’s been kicked out for killing a superior, and he sees that the corruption and injustice and dishonesty spread far beyond the Journeyman Protectors of Concord Dawn, that its everywhere in the galaxy, his response then is to write a fucking book.
