1/3 - The dandelion

I imagine that, even with all the officials and sponsors having their own photos taken, someone would have taken a photo of the new Victors with their Mentor.

Haymitch knows what he's doing, Peeta is oblivious, and Katniss is forcing herself to smile through the panic of the danger they're now in.

I'm quite happy with how Haymitch (in the Gatsby toast pose) and Peeta turned out. But I penciled and inked this last night when I was already getting tired so you can see, from left to right, how the quality deteriorates once we get to Katniss. 😅 I'm sorry for how her arms and hands turned out! I'm also thinking of redesigning her face in the future to better show her youth. I feel like the nose shape I keep insisting on giving her makes her look older than she's supposed to be (especially in this chapter where Cinna and the prep team had to make her look a couple years younger and cuter on purpose).

I'm not sure if it's canonically possible for the Everdeens to afford taking a family photo like this, but I just wanted to draw baby Katniss and Primrose with their parents Asterid and Burdock. I decided to draw Burdock with close-cropped hair based solely on the fact that he's a miner with a shaving mirror who hated the layers of coal dust that gathered on top of everything in the Seam. 🤷‍♂️

P. S. I'm currently only at the part where Katniss continues to saw off the branch with the tracker jacket nest. But I find myself drawing the characters whenever the casting of the films pops up in my head and starts clashing with the actual descriptions in the books. 😅
